I can confirm this issue, but I think it is a BIOS problem. I updated my bios from A08 to A10 using the guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DellBIOS#Upgrading_with_a_FreeDOS_USB_drive . I experienced the same bug after an upgrade from raring to saucy with the same model. I just tested the upstream kernel, but the same bug seems to exist there. I added the corresponding tag. Given the current state of discussion, should the other bug be marked as a duplicate, or should it be marked as affecting saucy? This is possibly due to preinstalled Windows 8 and UEFI. I did not approve/accept the Windows 8 installation and that should not matter. I want to install only Ubuntu and *no* dual boot with the preinstalled Windows 8. I want to erase the entire disc in firsts steps of installation procedure. @Dennis: I guess that is a different issue. With the problem describe here, you would not even get a console or a blinking cursor, but just a black screen.
