[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1389006] Re: [Dell XPS 8700] USB mouse and keyboard unresponsive after last update

2015-04-01 Thread Frederik Elwert
I can confirm this issue, but I think it is a BIOS problem. I updated my
bios from A08 to A10 using the guide at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DellBIOS#Upgrading_with_a_FreeDOS_USB_drive .
Since then, the issue did not re-appear.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1237843] Re: Black screen on primary display on linux 3.11.x Asus UX31a

2013-10-12 Thread Frederik Elwert
I experienced the same bug after an upgrade from raring to saucy with
the same model. I just tested the upstream kernel, but the same bug
seems to exist there. I added the corresponding tag.

I can work around the issue by booting into the raring kernel
(3.8.0-31), which was still installed after the upgrade.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1195483] Re: Installation, Live and Check disc do not start on Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A

2013-10-13 Thread Frederik Elwert
There is another bug report regarding the saucy black screen issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1237843

Since this bug is marked as affecting saucy and raring, I guess that it
covers two separate issues: The SecureBoot issue that also affects
raring, and the black screen issue that only affects saucy.

Given the current state of discussion, should the other bug be marked as
a duplicate, or should it be marked as affecting saucy?

Anyways, this issue will severely affect anyone with a UX31A when
upgrading to saucy. So if it is not fixed until the release, this should
probably go into the release notes?

Thanks for the test packages! But unfortunately, I experience the very
same behavior as Timo.

I am afraid currently I am not able to create an upstream report. Maybe
someone else can step in?

Status in “linux” source package in Saucy:

Bug description:
When I try to install Ubuntu 13.04 on a new Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A
from june 2013, grub will come up bit every option such as
Installation, Live and Check disc result in a blank screen. This is
possibly due to preinstalled Windows 8 and UEFI.

I did not approve/accept the Windows 8 installation and that should
not matter. I want to install only Ubuntu and *no* dual boot with the
preinstalled Windows 8. I want to erase the entire disc in firsts
  steps of installation procedure.

  Screenshot illustrating the problem are:

is locked in that state)

  Debugging attempts from
  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Boot_Debugging failed. Perhaps I
did something wrong. What are ways to write debug to the screen in my
  case?

And, more importantly, how do I get it working because have the right
  to install whatever I want?

Is the only way to get it installed to accept the Windows 8 license
and install Ubuntu from Windows (and in effect making it dual boot
  which I don't want).

Ubuntu should fix this as it is the flagship of a major laptop manufacturer
(ASUS) for which Ubuntu is no longer installable.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1195483] Re: Installation, Live and Check disc do not start on Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A

2013-10-18 Thread Frederik Elwert
@Dennis: I guess that is a different issue. With the problem describe
here, you would not even get a console or a blinking cursor, but just a
black screen. I am afraid your problem lies elsewhere.
