[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1229686] Re: No video output at all when booting 13.10 on Asus Zenbook UX31A

2013-10-19 Thread Cai
I have the same behavior after upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 this
evening on my Asus UX31A: blank screen and can not get into a terminal.
I tried booting from a USB drive with the 13.10 x64 image and got the
same result.

I found this forum post
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2175602) which suggested
booting with the 3.8 kernel from the GRUB menu, and everything works
fine.

I'd be happy to submit logs if someone can let me know which logs are
needed.

Title:
No video output at all when booting 13.10 on Asus Zenbook UX31A

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading to 13.10 from 13.04 my computer booted into a black screen. I
could hear the login sound but couldn't see anything. Switching to some virtual
console isn't working either, nor was anything visible during the boot process.
I also tried to boot 13.10 from USB with a very similar result.
The IGP of the Zenbook UX31A is the Intel HD4000.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2015-12-20 Thread Tejin Cai
I fresh installed Linux Mint 17.3 Mate and yet the touchpad remains
unfunctional. When you installed Linux, do you have to change any of the
BIOS settings?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2033416] Re: change CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS_AMD_UNCORE from m to y

2023-10-07 Thread Zixian Cai
Yes, perf events are often used in performance analysis. Without loading
the module, uncore events, such as `amd_l3`, are missing from perf list.

Title:
  change CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS_AMD_UNCORE from m to y

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu currently sets CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS_AMD_UNCORE=m for distro
  kernels.

However, unlike plug and play devices, there is no way to load uncore module
when user tries to use uncore event.
Also, a primary motivation to add module support in uncore driver was to ease
development (https://git.kernel.org/torvalds/c/05485745ad482).

So, ask ubuntu to switch to CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS_AMD_UNCORE=y.

Hi Hai Heng Feng,

How are you? Hope you're fine.

I saw it's already release kernel v5.6

Should I try with this kernel?

Bug description:
  === SRU Justification ===
  [Impact]
PMIC_OPREGION is required to make GFX works on Bay Trail and Cherry
  Trial based tablets.

  [Fix]
  Enable CONFIG_PMIC_OPREGION.
CONFIG_GPIO_CRYSTAL_COVE needs to be loaded before i915 to control
panel, so change it to builtin.

These configs are aligned with Fedora kernel.

  [Test]
The i915 can now kinda work albeit hitting another bug. That's a
  different issue though.

  [Regression Potential]
Low. These configs only affects Intel-based budget tablets, GFX never
  worked.
It's a bit late for Focal so only enable configs in Unstable.

  === Original Bug Report ===
