2024-12-04 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
There is no sound cards on Intel LNL platform of ThinkPad TM2.

  [Fix]
Add soc-acpi table entry on LNL for ThinkPad TME laptop
  with rt713 and rt718.

This kernel patch depends on new sof firmware:
  db771bf v2.11.x: add new 2.11.2 topology2 production binaries
665e39d Add SOF v2.11.1 signed Intel binaries for MTL/LNL/ARL

- The sof-firmware will be SRU in LP#2086250
+ The sof-firmware will be SRU in bug 2086250

  [Test]
Tested on hardware, audio input and output can work
with the patch and new sof-firmware.

- $ cat /proc/asound/cards
- 0 [sofsoundwire ]: sof-soundwire - sof-soundwire
- LENOVO-21NTZCF5CN-ThinkPadX1CarbonGen13
+ $ cat /proc/asound/cards
+  0 [sofsoundwire ]: sof-soundwire - sof-soundwire
+   LENOVO-21NTZCF5CN-ThinkPadX1CarbonGen13
  $ speaker-test -c 2
  $ arecord -f cd cd.wav

  [Where problems could occur]
It may break audio on Intel LNL platform.

  The commit is from 6.12 kernel;
  LNL is only supported on 6.11+ kernel;
So SRU for oem-6.11 and oracular only.

Lenovo touchpad intermittently stops working with i2c_designware

Bug description:
Hi. When using my laptop, I frequently experience the touchpad
suddenly cease working. Sometimes there's a few seconds' warning with
reduced responsiveness, and sometimes it's completely sudden. I
experienced this in Kubuntu 22.04, and I still experience it after
  upgrading to 24.04.

Output from kern.log when it happens often looks like this:

  2024-07-09T21:31:51.573862-04:00 machinename kernel: i2c_designware

The only workaround I've found is to sleep/hibernate or shut down the
laptop; it always works again on reboot. Since I upgraded to 24.04, I
sometimes have the additional problem that I can't sleep the laptop
when this is happening. I get errors that say "kernel: Lockdown:
systemd-logind: hibernation is restricted; see man kernel_lockdown.7"
  when I try.

Note that the problem did not happen between my most recent boot and
the generation of the attached files via "ubuntu-bug linux".

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2072612]

2024-12-04 Thread mario.limonciello
> Dell Precision 5470

Isn't this an Intel platform?

> There is a question in the thread above about AGESA version, but I don't see
> the AGESA string in the dmidecode output on my system.

If it's an Intel system showing similar symptom then it shows this might
not be an AMD specific issue.

> I see that this bug is in the NEEDINFO status.
> What information would be useful to add?

I guess anything that could be a hint to others to help avoid the issue.
If you find that disabling cores, adjusting knobs in the BIOS, etc.

Title:
Lenovo touchpad intermittently stops working with i2c_designware
  errors

Status in Linux:
  Invalid
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
Hi. When using my laptop, I frequently experience the touchpad
suddenly cease working. Sometimes there's a few seconds' warning with
reduced responsiveness, and sometimes it's completely sudden. I
experienced this in Kubuntu 22.04, and I still experience it after
  upgrading to 24.04.

Output from kern.log when it happens often looks like this:

  2024-07-09T21:31:51.573862-04:00 machinename kernel: i2c_designware
AMDI0010:00: controller timed out

times: [ i2c_designware AMDI0010:00: timeout waiting for bus ready]

The only workaround I've found is to sleep/hibernate or shut down the
laptop; it always works again on reboot. Since I upgraded to 24.04, I
sometimes have the additional problem that I can't sleep the laptop
when this is happening. I get errors that say "kernel: Lockdown:
systemd-logind: hibernation is restricted; see man kernel_lockdown.7"
  when I try.

Note that the problem did not happen between my most recent boot and
the generation of the attached files via "ubuntu-bug linux".

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2072612]

2024-12-04 Thread launchpad
Update: My original issue was likely faulty hardware. I replaced the
trackpad and haven't been able to reproduce the problem since. (Though I
won't feel totally confident for a few more weeks.) Thanks to all who
looked into the kernel side of potential causes!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2091073] [NEW] SPD5118 DDR5 temperature sensor errors on ThinkPad resume from suspend

2024-12-04 Thread Kim Asplund
Public bug reported:

When resuming from suspend by opening the laptop lid, the following
errors appear repeatedly:

- "Failed to write b = 0: -6"
- "PM: failed to resume async: error -6"
- "PM: dpm_run_callback(): spd5118_resume [spd5118]"
- "returns -6"

The errors are related to the SPD5118 DDR5 temperature sensors. dmesg shows
four sensors:
- spd5118 1-0050: DDR5 temperature sensor: vendor 0x06:0x32 revision 1.6
- spd5118 1-0051: DDR5 temperature sensor: vendor 0x00:0xb3 revision 2.2
- spd5118 1-0052: DDR5 temperature sensor: vendor 0x06:0x32 revision 1.6
- spd5118 1-0053: DDR5 temperature sensor: vendor 0x00:0xb3 revision 2.2

The errors appear consistently on resume but do not seem to affect
system stability or memory functionality.

System Information:
- Ubuntu 25.04 (Noble Numbat) Preview
- ThinkPad [your specific model number]
- Kernel version: [output of uname -r]

Steps to reproduce:
1. Close laptop lid (system suspends)
2. Open laptop lid (system resumes)
3. Observe spd5118 errors in logs

Note: i have observed this same error in Ubuntu 24.04 and 24.10 also.

Title:
SPD5118 DDR5 temperature sensor errors on ThinkPad resume from suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When resuming from suspend by opening the laptop lid, the following
  errors appear repeatedly:

  - "Failed to write b = 0: -6"
  - "PM: failed to resume async: error -6"
  - "PM: dpm_run_callback(): spd5118_resume [spd5118]"
  - "returns -6"

The errors are related to the SPD5118 DDR5 temperature sensors. dmesg shows
four sensors:
  - spd5118 1-0050: DDR5 temperature sensor: vendor 0x06:0x32 revision 1.6
  - spd5118 1-0051: DDR5 temperature sensor: vendor 0x00:0xb3 revision 2.2
  - spd5118 1-0052: DDR5 temperature sensor: vendor 0x06:0x32 revision 1.6
  - spd5118 1-0053: DDR5 temperature sensor: vendor 0x00:0xb3 revision 2.2

The errors appear consistently on resume but do not seem to affect
  system stability or memory functionality.

  System Information:
  - Ubuntu 25.04 (Noble Numbat) Preview
  - ThinkPad [your specific model number]
  - Kernel version: [output of uname -r]

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Close laptop lid (system suspends)
  2. Open laptop lid (system resumes)
  3. Observe spd5118 errors in logs

Note: i have observed this same error in Ubuntu 24.04 and 24.10 also.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2085018] Re: Commit "net/mlx5e: Don't offload internal port if filter device is out device" breaks OpenStack/OVN distributed gateway use case

2024-12-04 Thread Stefan Bader
I modified the tasks to reflect how we decided to approach this. Since
the change right now is not upstream we take it as SAUCE into hwe-6.11
and hwe-6.8 (the latter being the primary target) for the security cycle
which currently is being prepared. The hope is that by the time we start
the next SRU cycle this has landed upstream and we can pick directly
from that into the oracular and noble targets. And the hwe kernels then
replace their individual changes by the upstream one on rebase.

  [Impact]

Dell GhostRider comes with Realtek RT722 codec + RT1320 amplifier on
Intel ARL platform. It needs the latest driver from Realtek on kernel
6.12 to have all audio function working correctly

  [Fix]
Backport the patchset from Realtek for RT722 and RT1320 on 6.12.

  == firmware-sof ==
  [Fix]
sof-arl-rt722-l0_rt1320-l2.tplg and sof-arl.ri are required and on the 2.11.2
upstream.

  == alsa-ucm-conf ==
  [Fix]
Need following patches for the RT722+RT1320 support.
  d/p/0001-ucm2-soundwire-add-rt722-SDCA-device.patch
  d/p/0001-sof-soundwire-fix-missing-MultiCodec1-initialization.patch
  d/p/0001-ucm2-sof-soundwire-add-RT1320-amplifier.patch
  d/p/0001-rt722-add-mic-led-support.patch

  [Test Case]
  1. Boot up the Dell GhostRider laptops.
  2. Make sure firmware-sof, alsa-ucm-conf and kernel version support
RT722+RT1320.
  3. check with the `aplay -l` commands to see if any valid audio output
devices.
  4. Make sure the audio play/record function is working.

  [Where problems could occur]
It add support the RT722+RT1320 configuration on Intel ARL platform. Also
need new firmware-sof and alsa-ucm-conf to support. No regression expected at
the current stage.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2089273] Re: Add soundwire support for AMD platforms

2024-12-04 Thread Leo Lin
Tested under both Intel and AMD platforms, with the following procedure:

1. Check speaker playback by playing video using firefox.
2. Make sure left and right channel function normally with gnome control center.
3. Record sound with speaker and playback. Confirm that it can record.
4. Reproduce the above steps but with headphone connected.

In all cases the audio functions normally.

  [ Impact ]

This patch series introduce soundwire support for AMD platform, as
well as code reorganization in preparation for that.

  [Fix]
Backport the AMD SoF driver from kernel 6.12 and its sdw_utils for dependency

  == alsa-ucm-conf ==
  [ Impact ]

This patch series introduce soundwire support for AMD platform. The
audio function won't work if no proper driver and alsa-ucm-conf
  installed.

  [ Fix ]
  Backport the patches from
https://github.com/alsa-project/alsa-ucm-conf/pull/470 to support AMD SoF
driver.

  [ Test ]

  1. Install the test kernel
  2. Install proper alsa-ucm-confs
  3. Confirm the audio function normally on the DUT with 1) AMD soundwire and
2) existing Intel platforms using soundwire. Might include:

  * Checkbox audio test plan
  * Built-in speaker and built-in mic
  * Audio function when headphone is connected to the DUT.

[ Where problems could occur ]

Patches needed, other than 3 SAUCE patches that planned to upstream in
6.13 cycle, are listed in [1] to [8] below.

Soundwire used to appear mostly on Intel platforms and is almost
always in combination with sof. To support AMD, it has to be
refactored into a more generic framework (or at least that's what AMD
people did). This happens in patch series [1][2] and [3], extracting
soundwire code from the sound/soc/intel directory to a more generic
location, as well as rename/refactor things to better fit the ASoC
context. This will impact all other soundwire platforms and if not
done correctly, regression risk may be high.

The all other patch sets other than [5] are AMD specific, so
theoretically the impact is limited to AMD platforms with soundwire,
  which are rather uncommon.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
These releases provide both bug fixes and new features, and we would like to
make sure all of our users have access to these improvements.

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.

  [Test Case]
The following development and SRU process was followed:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NVidiaUpdates

Certification test suite must pass on a range of hardware:
  https://git.launchpad.net/plainbox-provider-sru/tree/units/sru.pxu

The QA team that executed the tests will be in charge of attaching the
artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. nVidia
maintainers team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this
  has happened.

  [Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned system level tests are attached to this bug.

In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned system level tests are attached to this bug.

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NVidiaUpdates

Certification test suite must pass on a range of hardware:
  https://git.launchpad.net/plainbox-provider-sru/tree/units/sru.pxu

The QA team that executed the tests will be in charge of attaching the
artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. nVidia
maintainers team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this
  has happened.

  [Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned system level tests are attached to this bug.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2086815] Re: i2c-mlxbf: SMBus Repeated Start Support

2024-12-04 Thread Feysel Mohammed
Using 5.15.0-1057, the fix is verified.
1. Use the hidden way to enable I2C3: # SYS_ENABLE_I2C3=TRUE bfcfg
2. Reboot DPU, then verify it is enabled: # bfcfg -d | grep -i i2c3
   sys: ENABLE_I2C3=1
3. Verified it is not working yet: # i2cdetect -y 3
Error: Could not open file `/dev/i2c-3' or `/dev/i2c/3': No such file or
directory
4. Need another rshim boot on Host to make it work: # cat
/auto/sw_soc_dev/builds/blos-prod-nightly/bluefield-rel-4.9.1/last_signed/dist/dev-release/BlueField-4.9.1.13439_preboot-install.bfb
 > /dev/rshim1/boot
5. Verified I2C3 bus is accessible: # i2cdetect -y 3

Title:
  i2c-mlxbf: SMBus Repeated Start Support

Status in linux-bluefield package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in linux-bluefield source package in Jammy:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  SRU Justification:

  [Impact]

Reading SMBus or I2C block data on Bluefield will fail if the target
device requires repeated start conditions to be used.

  [Fix]

  * Add support for repeated start conditions to the Mellanox I2C driver.
  * Enable repeated start condition for I2C_FUNC_SMBUS_WRITE_I2C_BLOCK read
implementation.
  * Update I2C bus timing settings based on latest HW testing results. Required
for repeated start transactions with Bluefield 3 target devices.

  [Test Case]

  * Verified MLXBF I2C driver builds and loads without errors on Bluefield 2
and Bluefield 3.
  * Verified I2C block read of a device that requires repeated start conditions
succeeds using the following command: "i2cget -yi
".
  * Verified IPMB communication with BMC to regression test general I2C
behavior. Used to following command which will result in several I2C
transactions: "ipmitool mc info".

  [Regression Potential]

  * I2C bus timing settings have been updated and will affect all I2C and SMBus
transactions on Bluefield.
  * SMBus I2C block reads now include a repeated start condition which could
cause a regression if this type of read is expected to be used with a target
device that does not support repeated start conditions.
  * IPMB transactions that use I2C could fail due to a bug with this
implementation.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2061373] Re: [Lenovo Ubuntu 24.04 Bug] Print grub message before the uefi POST screen disappears in Ubuntu24.04 Beta

2024-12-04 Thread Manuel Diewald
Hi, I have a suspicion of what change in the kernel might have caused
this. I've prepared a test kernel for noble to verify my theory here:
https://launchpad.net/~diewald/+archive/ubuntu/ppa-2061373

It would be very helpful if you could install the kernel from that ppa
and see if that solves the problem.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:diewald/ppa-2061373
sudo apt update
sudo apt-get install linux-image-unsigned-6.8.0-99-generic

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2091053] [NEW] Performance degradation from Focal kernel 5.4.0-1087 to 5.4.0-1088

2024-12-04 Thread William Tu
Public bug reported:

Summary:

Customer is reporting performance degradation from Bluefield Focal 5.4.0-1087
to 5.4.0-1088
They run iperf3 based performance test, and see performance drop around 10-15%.

Test scenarios:
===
1. Baseline: BF - BFB 3.9.8 (OFED Driver 5.8, FW 35.4030) and CX6 HOST (Driver
5.8, FW 35.4030)
2. Promote HOST driver: BF - BFB 3.9.8, CX6 HOST (Driver 23.10, FW 39.3560)
3. Promote ARM driver: BF - BFB 3.9.8 + Driver 23.10, FW 39.3560, CX6 HOST
(Driver 5.8, FW 35.4030)
4. Promote ARM BFB: BF - BFB 4.5.2 (Driver 23.10, FW 39.3560, kernel
5.4.0-1088,...), CX6 HOST (Driver 5.8, FW 35.4040)

We observed similar results (no degradation) when changing only Driver
and FW (comparing scenarios 2 & 3 to 1).

We observed degradation when changing BFB completely (3.9.8->4.5.2)
while HOST side is the same (same as baseline)

Title:
Performance degradation from Focal kernel 5.4.0-1087 to 5.4.0-1088

Status in linux-bluefield package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Summary:

Customer is reporting performance degradation from Bluefield Focal 5.4.0-1087
to 5.4.0-1088
They run iperf3 based performance test, and see performance drop around
10-15%.

  Test scenarios:
  ===
  1. Baseline: BF - BFB 3.9.8 (OFED Driver 5.8, FW 35.4030) and CX6 HOST
(Driver 5.8, FW 35.4030)
