[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1950087] Re: ubuntu 21.10 live usb does not recognize Razer Blade 15 (2021) nvme drive (possible kernel bug)
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214025 may be the underlying issue for this bug. ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #214025 https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214025 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950087 Title: ubuntu 21.10 live usb does not recognize Razer Blade 15 (2021) nvme drive (possible kernel bug) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I am attempting to install Ubuntu on to a new Razer Blade 15 Advanced (mid-2021) laptop. However, there seems to be some issues with kernel compatibility. When installing 20.04 LTS I have many issues with hardware not being detected (especially the intel AX210 wifi card). Running the 21.10 release from a live usb happily detected all of my hardware out of the box, with one show-stopping exception.. the internal nvme drive is not visible at all. I have tried every combination of bios options imaginable, as well as multiple Ubuntu-based distros such as Kubuntu, Pop!OS and Ubuntu Studio - all with the same results: 20.04 LTS detects the internal nvme and will install, but lacks important hardware support - while 21.10 (running in live mode) is compatible with all the essential hardware out of the box, but does not "see" the internal nvme. My short-term solution has been to install a 20.04 release using a wired internet connection, followed by upgrading to 21.04. This configuration then works, however if I upgrade again to 21.10 the internal drive again becomes undetectable, making it impossible to boot the OS. This seems to be an emerging issue.. see: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1370379/21-10-does-not-see-windows- nvme-drive/1374079?noredirect=1#comment2364713_1374079 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950087/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1946686] Re: Fix zfs_get_data access to files with wrong generation causing panics
** Changed in: zfs-linux (Ubuntu Focal) Assignee: Colin Ian King (colin-king) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: zfs-linux (Ubuntu Focal) Assignee: (unassigned) => Dimitri John Ledkov (xnox) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to zfs-linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1946686 Title: Fix zfs_get_data access to files with wrong generation causing panics Status in zfs-linux package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in zfs-linux source package in Focal: Fix Committed Status in zfs-linux source package in Hirsute: Fix Committed Status in zfs-linux source package in Impish: Fix Released Bug description: == SRU Focal/Hirsute == [Impact] ZFS: Fix a panic while acquiring a lock. If TX_WRITE is create on a file, and the file is later deleted and a new directory is created on the same object id, it is possible that when zil_commit happens, zfs_get_data will be called on the new directory. This may result in panic as it tries to do range lock. Upstream ZFS bug #10593, #11682, upstream fix: commit 296a4a369bc1078a694f88570972330985b3b1b8 Author: Chunwei Chen Date: Fri Mar 19 22:53:31 2021 -0700 Fix zfs_get_data access to files with wrong generation This patch fixes this issue by record the generation number during zfs_log_write, so zfs_get_data can check if the object is valid. The fix is already in Ubuntu ZFS 2.0.6 in Impish. The fix is a relatively simple backport with only minor backporting effort required in moving some of the module specific upstream changes into the pre- renamed module specific os specific parts of the ZFS module. [Test Plan] This is difficult to reproduce, see https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/10593 The fix has been tested with the complete ubuntu autotest ZFS regression tests that exercise ZFS core functionality (smoke tests), file system POSIX compliance (fs tests), extra XFS tests and every mount option with stress-ng file I/O stress tests. [Where problems could occur] This fix could regress the ZIL (ZFS intent log) commit writes since it modifies this code to now checks for generation numbers. Testing with ZFS autotests with intent logs have not found any regressions, but there is a risk that the ZIL functionality is affected. This could lead to corruption. -- As mentioned at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs- linux/+question/696659, the following pull request fixes a panic acquiring a lock: https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/pull/11682 This fix does not appear to be a part of the latest Ubuntu 20.04 release: zfsutils-linux: Installed: 0.8.3-1ubuntu12.12 Candidate: 0.8.3-1ubuntu12.12 Version table: *** 0.8.3-1ubuntu12.12 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 0.8.3-1ubuntu12.9 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages 0.8.3-1ubuntu12 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages Of note is this issue where the bug is reported against the Ubuntu 0.8.3 packages: https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/10642 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zfs-linux/+bug/1946686/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Make sure the computer has a BIOS that supports pinctrl for EHL 2. Before installing the new kernel, GPIO should not work 3. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1945938] Re: [impish] Remove the downstream xr-usb-uart driver
This bug is awaiting verification that the linux- intel-5.13/5.13.0-1008.8 kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-focal' to 'verification- done-focal'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification- needed-focal' to 'verification-failed-focal'. If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you! ** Tags added: verification-needed-focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945938 Title: [impish] Remove the downstream xr-usb-uart driver Status in linux package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in linux source package in Impish: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] The xr-usb-serial custom (downstream vendor) driver was added in Xenial LTS kernel to add support for USB UART chips: Family: USB UART Part Numbers: XR21V1410, XR21V1412, XR21V1414, XR21B1411, XR21B1420, XR21B1422, XR21B1424, XR22801, XR22802, XR22804 [Fix] In 5.13.x, support for these devices was added to the kernel via. following patch series: Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20210412095557.1213-1-jo...@kernel.org/ There have been long term maintenance challenges with the downstream vendor driver over the period of time (since 4.4.y based Xenial LTS). Now that upstream driver supports most of the above part numbers, let's remove this redundant out-of-tree driver. [Test] The driver was functionally verified to work fine with XR21V1412. The support for other chips with part numbers mentioned above are also supported with the above patch series. [Where problems could occur] The downstream driver was designed to work with specific BIOS configs only defined on an IoT GW project which is locked to use only Xenial ESM and Bionic LTS kernels, there is a low chance of regression on the Impish series. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594023] Re: Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04
Hi again, so since october 28, I have been trying to install and run an old kernel from before this shutdown problem happened and I am now running 4.4.0-210-generic, for the last week(and I use my laptop every day most of the day), I have had no shutdown problems. Since this problem occur in newer kernels too, than maybe developers can look to this kernel and see what is different, that might cause the problem. To people who want to use this older kernel, just open synaptics and look first to what you have installed by searching for your kernel version number - do not add linux-image or linux-headers. You should see what is installed and modules. Make a screenshot or write it down, then look for this old kernel the same way and install the items from your list. Wait for it to finish. Then either use Grub customizerI use this as there is a GUI and a lot of options, like having a list of kernels shown on start up) or you can just run sudo update-grub from terminal Restart your machine Edit these instructions to fit your own system, that might be different from mine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1594023 Title: Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04 Status in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is about a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 install on a new laptop (asus x540sa). After pressing the shutdown button in the start menu; the shutdown procedure starts and in the final splash screen the system just hangs. Tried a second time by pressing Esc once the splash screen showed up and I saw that it reaches the line "Reached target shutdown" and just stops there, no matter how long I leave it there the machine won't turn off. I also tried a Kubuntu 16.04 fresh install on the same machine and it hanged too at the final splash screen where the pulsating logo stopped. Then I tried with Esc only to see the exact same line in the end. The issue seems to affect lately quite many users as shown by the google results of the past month / week or so. I have also tried shutting down from the console with shutdown -and all the parameters after that suggested online- and sudo poweroff but unfortunately they didn't do the trick. The exact same situation occurred. Unmounting the swap as suggested online doesn't work. Also rebooting the system is not working either due to the same issue. So right now the only way for me to poweroff the machine is to press the power button on the keyboard continuously. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install OS 2.Do something, anything or nothing 3.Try to shutdown or reboot Actual Results: The computer is not shutting down: "Reached target shutdown" and hangs there. Expected Results: Powering off the machine. For what it's worth, closing the lid won't suspend the system, but using the menu buttons for suspension will do it. However, no sound card can be detected w/o the topology binary file in /lib/firmware and corresponding ucm file. [Fix] The kernel config CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SKYLAKE_HDAUDIO_CODEC needa to be enabled for the snd_soc_skl driver to support HDA+DMIC configuration. And the topology binary file and UCM files need to be located in the correct path based on Intel's suggestion. https://gist.github.com/crojewsk/4e6382bfb0dbfaaf60513174211f29cb. [Test] On the Skylake/Kabylake platforms with either the PCI device 8086:9d70 and 8086:9d71, boot up the machine and check the existence of the sound card by either 'aplay -l' or 'pactl list' command. [Where problems could occur] Should be low risk, it only affects limited Intel Platforms with particular PCI device IDs + HDA plus DMIC configuration. == Original Bug Description == Ubuntu version: 20.10 (updated from 20.04) Kernel: 5.8.0-41-generic #46-Ubuntu Manufacturer: Acer Product Name: Swift SF314-54 BIOS Revision: 1.11 Audio card: Realtek High Definition Audio Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio [8086:9d71] (rev 21) Summary === After upgrading from linux kernel 5.4 to 5.8, there is no more sound card available. However, if I select kernel 5.4 in GRUB, the sound card is available. Steps to reproduce == 1. Install 20.04 or 20.10 with a kenel 5.4 2. Check that sound output works as excepted (Settings > Sound > Output > Test) 3. Check that `alsa-info` command returns information 4. Upgrade kernel to 5.8 Expected results Sound output still works. Actual results == 2. Sound card is available, and sound can be output to the internal speakers. 4. No more sound card detected (Sound Settings display "Dummy Output" in the list of output devices).
