[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power
@Alberto I was assuming that this should also work with sddm (on Kubuntu), but apparently not out of the box. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791372] Re: Keyboard backlight not working on Asus ZenBook Flip UX561UD laptop in Cosmic 18.10, works with 18.04.1 desktop installer live image

Press Fn+F3/F4 in fresh install from current Cosmic desktop image, fully updated -> Keyboard backlight should come on or change but doesn't. The gnome-shell pop-up icon for the keyboard backlight appears for both keys, but the icon's "progress" bar is not visible. Kernel version is linux-image-4.17.0-9-generic This is the same in X and Wayland session. In case it matters, Nvidia binary drivers are installed but Nvidia is switched off via Prime setting in nvidia-settings. Running with Intel drivers The keyboard backlight works perfectly when booting from the 18.04.1 desktop live image. When turning on light with 18.04.1, it is off again after rebooting into 18.10. (However 18.04.1 seems to freeze when shutting down from menu, I have to hard-shut it off). Most other important Fn+Fx special keys on this laptop work (display brightness, touchpad off, sound) except for the airplane mode key. However the airplane mode key only fails in gnome-shell but works on the console (this is filed as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1791367) (Not working are a key that seems to mean "display off" and another of unclear purpose that never worked on any laptop I ever saw, maybe "presentation mode" as it seems to depict a flip chart or projection screen). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1793901] [NEW] kernel oops in bcache module
Public bug reported: This was on an 18.04.1 install running the 4.15-34 generic kernel image, running from a normal ext4 root device. I had just a short while before created a new bcache device that was mounted but to which no data had been written yet. Then without any apparent particular reason, an apport error popped up to inform of a bcache kernel oops. Crash log was uploaded but no idea how to link it, so I attach it as well. Mostly I would like to know how concerned I should be as after a previous, successful test I wanted to move the whole install to bcache. Ideally, if this is a bug or similar, it would be nice if it could get fixed. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1793901] Re: kernel oops in bcache module
It seems that this might be only a problem with linux-image-4.15.0-34-generic I tested it now with linux-image-4.15.0-34-generic and 4.18.0 (self compiled) and in both cases the oops didn't trigger after a reasonable amount of time. When checking the changelog for -34 it seems there was a change regarding bcache: bcache: fix kcrashes with fio in RAID5 backend dev Could this be related to that? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1793901 Title: kernel oops in bcache module Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This was on an 18.04.1 install running the 4.15-34 generic kernel image, running from a normal ext4 root device. When I pair, my phone gives me a checkbox "Allow xx to access your contacts and call history", but there is no option to allow file transfers. Then, when I attempt to transfer a file via Bluetooth from Ubuntu the transfer fails and I get the message "There was an error". My phone doesn't seem to recognise there's been any attempt to send a file. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1765040] Re: Runtime microcode updates do not expose new features completely
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1765040 Title: Runtime microcode updates do not expose new features completely Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in linux source package in Artful: Won't Fix Bug description: Unlike upstream, the artful kernel uses the scattered CPU bits arch/x86/kernel/cpu/scattered.c to get the IBRS/IBPB CPUID bits in the KVM CPUID ioctls(). However, these are not updated when loading new microcode at run-time. This means that if you boot a system with older microcode and then use late microcode loading at boot time or later, then the new features are not exposed to guests. So even though the host supports the SPEC_CTRL MSR, those bits are masked out in the guest, even when passing through host CPU capabilities. Upstream does not have this problem because it uses cpuid_count() which does a raw cpuid when creating a guest rather than the scattered features. Two changes are needed - updating scattered features on microcode reload and using the runtime CPU data rather than the boot data. Reproduced on "4.13.0-38-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 14 15:20:44 UTC 2018". Boot with original vendor microcode, apply new microcode with "echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/microcode/reload" and then boot a guest. With the simple test case below in the guest, see that bits [27:26] are not set when they are in the host. #include #include int main(void) { unsigned int edx; asm volatile("mov $7, %%eax\n\t" "mov $0, %%ecx\n\t" "cpuid\n\t" "mov %%edx, %0" : "=r"(edx) : : "%edx", "%ecx", "%ebx"); printf("%08x\n", edx); return 0; } Two compile tested patches attached, I have not yet checked other Ubuntu releases. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 219057] Re: Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi
[Expired for bluez (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: bluez (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219057 Title: Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: On my system bluetooth and wifi are unusable together. I have a built- in CSR-based bluetooth module in my laptop, and an Atheros wifi. Wifi transfers slow to a halt whenever there is BT traffic. For example, if I play a music file from another machine through the network using a BT headset, only the first few seconds of the file will play until the player runs out of buffered data. No further data is downloaded. Web pages also do not download, and I even lose connection to AP from time to time. At the same time, it looks like AFH is trying to work. If I monitor the value returned by 'hcitool afh', it changes. But this seems to have little effect on connection quality. Is this a problem with my hardware, or the AFH implementation? Is there a way to force bluetooth to not use the channels in use by WiFi? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1793934] [NEW] Black Screen After A Few Minutes
Public bug reported: I first encountered the issue on Kubuntu 18.04 when I removed my 2nd monitor, the screen went black after 5-30 seconds. I tried: - disconnecting the 1st instead of the 2nd monitor - using Ubuntu 18.04 (not Kubuntu) - using Wayland - installing the latest mainline linux kernel 4.19rc4 The only things that worked so far are: - Having both Monitors connected - nomodeset or recovery mode - using Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 - loggin via tty/terminal When the PC was turned off for a while, I have to wait for a few minutes or start lots of applications for the black screen to occur. If the PC was restarted several times due to this bug, a blank screen may occur as soon as I see the login screen. The issue also occurs during installation when autodetecting the keyboard type or after selecting the installation type (Minimal Installation or Normal Installation etc.) My Hardware: - ASRock H87 Pro4 - Intel i5-4570 - AMD Radeon R9 390 - 1st Monitor connected via DisplayPort to HDMI adapter cable (or DVI-D) - 2nd Monitor connected via DVI-D cable ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: linux-image-4.15.0-29-generic 4.15.0-29.31 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 2031 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: ubuntu 2031 F pulseaudio CasperVersion: 1.394 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Sep 23 06:03:27 2018 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) MachineType: To Be Filled By O.E.M.
