[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1728244] Re: Touchpad stops working after reboot on Apollo Lake
Thanks Hans, I have tried to patch with your patches my kernel but it didn't work. A better tech guy - a canonical guy - compiled himself for me and it didn't work neither. I'll wait for 4.16 but at this point - because 4.15 has a regression, indeed touchpad movement doesn't work anymore in drm-intel-next mainline branch - I don't think it is going to work :D -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1728244 Title: Touchpad stops working after reboot on Apollo Lake Status in Linux: Unknown Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: On the Jumper EZBook 3 Pro (V4) laptop, using an Apollo Lake N3450 processor, if you install Ubuntu 17.10 (or less) with isorespin and use rEFInd as bootloader (this is the only way to get linux booting on this laptop) everything works out of the box, but after a reboot or two the touchpad stops working. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1739928] Re: Kernel segfault playing EVERSPACE
It seems to me that this is not a kernel problem. I guess that there was a NULL pointer dereference in RSG-Linux-Shipping when the system started entering severe memory pressure. Then, due to severe memory pressure, many memory allocation requests started stalling. But there is no kernel oops messages, which means that the kernel should not be in inconsistent state. -- Dec 23 20:08:25 gooseberry kernel: [83579.182919] vboxdrv: VBoxEhciR0.r0 Dec 23 20:37:43 gooseberry kernel: [85336.572498] RSG-Linux-Shipp[4986]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp 7fffe2493778 error 14 in RSG-Linux-Shipping[40+638c000] Dec 23 20:38:58 gooseberry kernel: [85389.847138] rtkit-daemon: page allocation stalls for 10224ms, order:0, mode:0x14200ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:02 gooseberry kernel: [85392.351015] nacl_helper: page allocation stalls for 10660ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:03 gooseberry kernel: [85394.373753] CIPCServer::Thr: page allocation stalls for 13060ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:04 gooseberry kernel: [85394.418114] redshift: page allocation stalls for 10768ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:04 gooseberry kernel: [85394.626684] java: page allocation stalls for 13336ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:05 gooseberry kernel: [85394.710998] java: page allocation stalls for 14172ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:05 gooseberry kernel: [85395.064425] gmain: page allocation stalls for 12828ms, order:0, mode:0x1420848(GFP_NOFS|__GFP_NOFAIL|__GFP_HARDWALL|__GFP_MOVABLE), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:06 gooseberry kernel: [85396.166591] java: page allocation stalls for 12360ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:07 gooseberry kernel: [85396.182852] dropbox: page allocation stalls for 14584ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85396.444863] java: page allocation stalls for 15116ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85397.998896] SlateLoading1: page allocation stalls for 11004ms, order:0, mode:0x1400840(GFP_NOFS|__GFP_NOFAIL), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85399.180885] Chrome_FileThre: page allocation stalls for 12120ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85399.937947] java: page allocation stalls for 20236ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85402.716378] CHTTPClientThre: page allocation stalls for 21712ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85403.440140] keybase: page allocation stalls for 21264ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85404.113506] chrome: page allocation stalls for 13840ms, order:0, mode:0x14200ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85404.148676] dropbox: page allocation stalls for 20224ms, order:0, mode:0x14200ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85404.415977] dropbox: page allocation stalls for 20492ms, order:0, mode:0x14200ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85404.788766] dropbox: page allocation stalls for 23188ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85406.296349] keybase: page allocation stalls for 24120ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85406.912627] Watchdog: page allocation stalls for 10744ms, order:0, mode:0x14200ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85408.143462] java: page allocation stalls for 27644ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85408.314888] java: page allocation stalls for 24508ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85408.915217] java: page allocation stalls for 29212ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85409.229332] java: page allocation stalls for 28728ms, order:0, mode:0x14201ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE|__GFP_COLD), nodemask=(null) Dec 23 20:39:08 gooseberry kernel: [85409.759119] chrome: page allocation stalls for 16468ms, order:0, mode:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models
Trimmer, It is best to wait to install 17.10 until the Ubuntu web site has it available for download again. Currently the Ubuntu web site states: "The download of Ubuntu 17.10 is currently discouraged due to an issue on certain Lenovo laptops. Once fixed this download will be enabled again." So, I would follow that advice for now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734147 Title: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models Status in Linux: Unknown Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux-hwe-edge package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux-oem package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux source package in Xenial: Invalid Status in linux-hwe-edge source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in linux-oem source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Artful: Fix Released Status in linux-hwe-edge source package in Artful: Invalid Status in linux-oem source package in Artful: Invalid Status in linux package in openSUSE: New Bug description: SRU Justification Impact: Many users are reporting issues with bios corruption with 17.10. This seems to stem from enabling the intel-spi-* drivers in the kernel, which don't appear to be ready for use on end-user machines. Fix: Disable this driver. Test Case: Fix has been verified by our HWE team on affected hardware. Regression Potential: Minimal, it's unlikely anyone is actually doing anything which requires this driver. --- Hi all, Basically on Lenovo Y50-70 after installing Ubuntu 17.10, many users reported a corrupted BIOS. It's not possible to save new settings in BIOS anymore and after rebooting, the system starts with the old settings. Moreover (and most important) USB booting is not possible anymore since USB is not recognized. It's very serious, since our machines do not have a CDROM. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models
Hi, Not sure if my issue is similar, buto used to be able to boot from a number of efi files hard coded into the bios \EFI\Linux\BOOTX64.efi (Linux) \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi (Windows Boot Manager) \EFI\ubuntu\shim.efi (ubuntu SECURE) \EFI\ubuntu\shim$cpu$.efi (ubuntu SECURE) \EFI\ubuntu\grub.efi (ubuntu NORMAL) \EFI\fedora\shim.efi (Fedora) \EFI\android\bootx64.efi (Android) \EFI\opensuse\grubx64.efi (topenSUSE) \EFI\redhat\grub.efi (Red Hat Linux) \EFI\SuSE\elilo.efi (SuSE Linux) \EFI\ubuntu\grub$cpu$.efi (ubuntu NORMAL) but im now only able to boot \EFI\Linux\BOOTX64.efi none of the others work. I think i can change bios settings, but theres not much for me to change, and i can boot EFI. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1739973] [NEW] HDMI doesn't work with kernel 4.4
Public bug reported: I recently upgraded my Ubuntu version from 15.10 to 16.04. I know, I should have done this earlier, but whenever I upgrade there's always something that doesn't work afterwards. This time it's HDMI. I first noticed the problem when trying to use the projector at work. Weirdly, if I go to display settings the projector is detected there it's just that nothing shows up. Even more weirdly, using a HDMI to VGA adaptor works fine and similarly using a HDMI to DVI adaptor with my monitor also works fine. So I initially put it down to a fault with the cable or the projector. But then I found the same issue with my TV using other cables. Upon restarting my laptop, I noticed that grub displays fine. I then tried loading up using kernel 4.2.0-42-generic and that works fine so it seems that this is just a problem with kernel 4.4. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models
I reanimated my Acer TravelMate B113. My story: I had Xubuntu 17.10. Once an update was installed (some apps + kernel), after reboot OS stopped to work. I tried to load from USB using 17.10 (twice) and 17.04 (twice). Both OS from the same flash drive. No luck. I want to mention that I was able to change+save settings in Bios. Few days ago someone above wrote that he put a hdd from damaged laptop to normal one, reinstalled OS and moved hdd back to the damaged laptop. I decided to do the same. I installed Xubuntu 17.04, put hdd back to damaged laptop. At this point (before loading a freshly installed OS) for some reason I deciced to turn off in Bios everything possible (usb, camera, ehternet, wifi, etc), saved bios changes, rebooted and OS worked! I rebooted again, turn everything on in Bios, reboot... still works. As I already have Xubuntu 17.04 on USB (this is the same flash drive as I mentioned at the beginning), I decided to try to load from it... mysteriously, but it worked. As for now, I can not say wether my problem has any relation to this topic as I thought earlier, but my problem definettely occured right after update (and possibly due to kernel update). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen)
I encountered a similar or same problem on Gigabyte AB350 with Ubuntu 16.04 running `4.13.0-21-generic #24~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Dec 18 19:39:31 UTC 2017`. It even shows up on 18.04 Alpha. Only thing that makes it halfway work is setting `acpi=off`. Isn't this supposed to be fixed by now? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1671360 Title: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen) Status in Linux: Unknown Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Zesty: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Artful: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Gigabyte AM4 boards users cannot boot Ubuntu successfully. Commit linux-gpio/fixes babdc22b0ccf4ef5a3075ce6e4afc26b7a279faf "pinctrl/amd: Use regular interrupt instead of chained" can fix the issue. [Test Case] All Gigabyte AM4 boards can reproduce the issue. With the patch, the issue is resolved, per comment #170. [Regression Potential] Regression Potential is low. It limits to rather new AMD platform which has pinctrl-amd. As the commit log says, use chained interrupt is not a good idea. Use regular interrupt is the correct way. I also test the patch on an AMD laptop, where its touchpad depends on pinctrl-amd. No regression found. Original bug report: I'm trying to run ubuntu on Ryzen 1700x with Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3 motherboard, and it has a load of problems, starting with not being able to boot normally. During normal boot, on 16.10 as well as 17.04 beta: system doesn't boot normally, hangs with a lot of "unexpected irq trap at vector 07" messages displayed. Following advice from various places, I've tried:disable cpu freq governor and cpu handling in acpi settings 1. add "acpi=off" to boot params That helps, allowing me to boot into recovery mode, though it leaves me with system seeing only one core, is really slow and still only boots in recovery mode. 2. Compile own kernel using 4.11.rc1 and disabling cpu freq governor and cpu handling in acpi settings. Boot with "quiet loglevel=3" option. That gets me even further - system sees all cores now. Still only recovery mode though, but its enough to get info for this bug report. Some observed problems: 1. dmesg reports *a lot* of messages like this all the time: [ 163.362068] ->handle_irq(): 87a7e090, [ 163.362081] bad_chained_irq+0x0/0x40 [ 163.362089] ->handle_irq(): 87a7e090, [ 163.362090] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200 [ 163.362090] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20, [ 163.362090] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120 [ 163.362090] ->action(): 884601c0 [ 163.362091]IRQ_NOPROBE set [ 163.362099] ->handle_irq(): 87a7e090, [ 163.362099] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200 [ 163.362100] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20, [ 163.362100] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120 [ 163.362101] ->action(): 884601c0 I've tried to redirect dmesg to a file, stopped after a short while, it generated 400M of those. 2. Systemd cannot start journald. Perhaps because it cannot cope with amount of kernel logs? 3. Looking at pci, I've noticed something called AMDI0040 (/sys/bus/acpi/devices/AMDI0040, path=_SB_.EMMC), among AMDI0010, AMDI0020, AMDI0030. Those however are mentioned in kernel source, kernel and google are completely silent about AMDI0040. Phoronix tested ryzen using different motherboard, and it worked better (though not well), so I suspect it is an issue with motherboard. --- ApportVersion: 2.20.4-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-08-06 (581 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Alpha amd64 (20150728.1) Package: linux (not installed) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en TERM=linux PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash Tags: zesty Uname: Linux 4.11.0-rc1-custom x86_64 UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to zesty on 2017-03-03 (6 days ago) UserGroups: _MarkForUpload: True To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1671360/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models
#275 Very similar procedure I have shared with few of other Lenovo forum members (and few others from here). Sadly, did not receive feedback or some were not able to follow my instructions. Key was to force BIOS recognizing changes by replacing hard drive. My trick was to have same partitions map but other drive (so the partitions' IDs are the same but the hardware vendor different) and that (in my opinion) was causing BIOS to self unlock.
