[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1436940] Re: Atheros wifi 168c:0041(QCA6164) is not supported

2015-08-23 Thread Ryan
Hi Diego,

Still no luck (copied the QCA6164 firmware.bin and board.bin to
QCA6174/hw2.1/) but I am getting different outputs on dmesg.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1434978] Re: HP Zbook 14 G2: systems restart after shutdown

2015-08-23 Thread Martin Konopka
I am using HP ZBook 15 procured in 2013. It is a dual-boot machine: Windows 7 +
Linux. The problem began after reinstallation of linux:
- shutdown worked with LinuxMint 17
- shutdown does not work with Ubuntu-MATE 15.04

If I want to poweroff I have to reboot to Windows and issue the shutdown
command from Windows. It works then.

HP Zbook 14 G2: systems restart after shutdown

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
When I use the shutdown option in the menu or run "sudo poweroff" on my new
Zbook 14 G2, the system shuts down and powers up again right after the restart.
I have to push the power button again during startup to avoid it to restart.
The system is more or less supported by Ubuntu* and the BIOS is up to date, so
I thought this is worth a bug report...
(I don't have a preinstalled system by HP, since I can't buy these here, this
is an Ubunutu 15.04)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1436940] Re: Atheros wifi 168c:0041(QCA6164) is not supported

2015-08-23 Thread Diego
Hi,

not sure why your firmware is crashing... You seem to have the exact
same laptop as me (Lenovo 80K90001US, or at least everything seems to
match so far).

You could try editing htc.c (drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath10k) and
commenting out that error to see if it helps (or fails later) but this
is just a guess really... If you open htc.c, and search for "Service
connect timeout", you can try commenting out the next line (line 697)
that says "return -ETIMEDOUT;" (that is basically the -110 you see that
prevents the firmware to load).

You could compile and sudo make install it (but this is just a guess,
hoping it might help out).

By the way, my kernel is:

Linux diego 4.1.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.1.3-1 (2015-08-03) x86_64
GNU/Linux

I'm not sure if maybe you have an older kernel or newer... It might be
some other hardware interfering with it (maybe something I didn't care
to configure) ?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1420290]

2015-08-23 Thread Jani-nikula
Please try v4.2-rc7 or drm-intel-nightly branch of [1], drop all i915
module parameters (such as i915.enable_rc6 i915.enable_fbc
i915.lvds_downclock and i915.semaphores, they are not for regular use),
add drm.debug=14, attach dmesg all the way from early boot.

Running Vivid with kernel 3.19 (debs from http://kernel.ubuntu.com

I can't use "ubuntu-bug linux" because I get "It appears you are
currently running a mainline kernel. It would be better to report
this bug upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/ so that the upstream
kernel developers are aware of the issue. If you'd still like to file
a bug against the Ubuntu kernel, please boot with an official Ubuntu

The Objective), as this message does not appear in the 3.18.

Bug description:
Running Vivid with kernel 3.19 (debs from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-vivid/), I get the warning below in dmesg.

I can't use "ubuntu-bug linux" because I get "It appears you are
currently running a mainline kernel. It would be better to report
this bug upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/ so that the upstream
kernel developers are aware of the issue. If you'd still like to file
a bug against the Ubuntu kernel, please boot with an official Ubuntu
kernel and re-file.". IMHO that last advice would be a DTO (Defeating
The Objective), as this message does not appear in the 3.18.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1458631] Re: udev: /dev/input/js0 is created but no joystick attached

2015-08-23 Thread Hans Deragon
I have this problem on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Thar. Despite unplugging
my joystick, /dev/input/js0 remains and any other joystick attached
takes /dev/input/js1.

Kernel info: 3.13.0-62-generic #102-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 11 14:29:36 UTC

Bug description:
With ubuntu vivid i see a /dev/input/js0. I do not have a joystick or
gamepad attached. This invalid input device cause a game in steam
"Crypt of the necrodancer" to crash during start. The game works fine
  when I delete it.

This appears to be a ubuntu specific bug as it does not show up on
  fedora 22.

It goes away if I unplug the mouse/keyboard usb dongle I use. If I
attach a wired keyboard only it does not show up. I tried adding a
wired mouse too, but that causes js0 to appear too. The output of
udevadm changes depending on what mouse I have attached. The following
output is from using the dongle for my wireless mouse/keyboard (both
  microsoft products)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1436940] Re: Atheros wifi 168c:0041(QCA6164) is not supported

2015-08-23 Thread Diego
A few things you could also try:

1. I read that some people reported the power interfering with the card (try
booting from battery or AC)
2. I read some people saying that putting the computer to sleep and restoring
makes Atheros work (weird)
3. Some people reported problems with Atheros card and UEFI installations
(just FYI, I use legacy BIOS mode because I switched my drive from an older
laptop that broke)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1484497] Re: [Wily] wakes up green drives without a valid reason

2015-08-23 Thread Ralf Mardorf
To rule out the kernel being the culprit, I build a kernel I'm using with Arch
Linux, were green drives stay asleep. IMO it's not caused by the package linux.
There are no differences for the config, that are relevant for the issue.
It's unlikely that there were any additional patches used for the Arch Linux
kernel, that are related to the issue.

The spin down/spin up test:

[root@moonstudio weremouse]# t=10800;y=$(smartctl -A /dev/sdc|grep
Lo|awk '{print $NF}');sleep $t;x=$(smartctl -A /dev/sdc|grep Lo|awk
'{print $NF}');printf "\n$(uname -rm)$(lsb_release -d|cut -f2 -d:|cut
-f1 -d"(")\n$x-$y=$((x-y)) spins in $(($t/60/60)) hours\n"

3.10.61-rt65-1-moonstudio x86_64Ubuntu Wily Werewolf
15342-15333=9 spins in 3 hours

Arch Linux only makes one spin, when smartctl wakes up the drive after 3
hours.

That's how I build the Ubuntu kernel:

[root@moonstudio src]# export CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=2;wget
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/linux-3.10.61.tar.gz
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/rt/3.10/older/patch-3.10.61-rt65.patch.gz

Most likely the Arch kernel just had two additional patches:

change-default-console-loglevel.patch
fix-race-in-PRT-wait-for-completion-simple-wait-code_Nvidia-RT.patch

Both kernels are configured with CONFIG_X86_64=y and CONFIG_X86=y.
That's the diff of the Arch and Ubuntu config:

Title:
[Wily] wakes up green drives without a valid reason

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

a minimalist Wily server install, around 4.5 GiB small does cause
endless spin downs and spin ups, so that green drives get damaged. I
maintain an around 37.5 GiB large Arch Linux install, quasi using the
same software used by the Wily install and in addition a little bit
more software, which isn't used by the Wily install. For Arch Linux I
don't experience this issue. I expect the same for an Ubuntu install.

I'm already hunting the culprit, see
  https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-studio-devel/2015-August/006570.html
and
  https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-studio-devel/2015-August/006571.html,
  but run out of ideas.

The claim the install is 2 GiB small is a typo, the backup archive is
  of that size.

However, assumed Ubuntu won't contribute to
  http://andrewmcconnell.photoshelter.com/gallery/GoLuiBLHIsmM this
"feature" should be removed from the defaults.

  $ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Wily Werewolf (development branch)
  Release: 15.10

  Regards,
  Ralf

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1457587] Re: wifi crash on wakeup (iwl3945 cfg80211)

2015-08-23 Thread robochat
I've also been seeing this bug in kubuntu for about the last 6 months. The wifi
actually works when I come directly out of sleep mode but if the computer
screen is allowed to lock then afterwards the wifi is broken and journalctl
shows errors of the kind
"wlan0: Failed check-sdata-in-driver check, flags: 0x4". I've tried to restart
services and modprobe the iwl3945 module but this often crashes the computer.
Instead I've found that sending the computer into 'sleep' mode and waking it up
will restore the wifi -at least for a while.

Same problem on acer 5630 running "3.19.0-26-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue
Aug 11 14:16:45 UTC 2015 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux"

This has been a problem for about 6 months. I currently am able to
(temporarily) fix it by sending the computer into sleep mode and then
waking it up again but would be great to get a proper fix!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1487769] Re: Task hung when using GPU

2015-08-23 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
Team Fortress 2, as many Steam games do, do not use Ubuntu native
libraries. Instead Steam provides its own ones, which usually are older
and do not support the latest Radeon graphics.

If you are experiencing this bug with a game outside Steam, please set
its status back to "confirmed". Thank you.

Title:
cciss driver crashes kernel during boot with wily kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
On a HP Proliant was running trusty with vivid kernel from backports
originally. Worked fine with userspace upgrade to wily. When I
rebooted with the wily linux-generic kernel however I got a stack
  dump:

SW Raid1 on two CCISS based RAID0 disks, and dm_crypt. Kernel boots to
prompt for cyrptoroot passphrase. After entering it and mounting
entering the dm mapper init sequence the kernel crashes. I have a
dropbear instance installed running from initramfs (for remote
unlocking of root) and this is still runs.

  dmesg attached from server.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1487769] Re: Task hung when using GPU

2015-08-23 Thread Lucas Clemente Vella
I couldn't disagree more with the closing of this bug, for two reasons:

1) Steam and Steam's games sometimes do replace completely userspace
libraries, like C++ standard library, SDL and/or FreeType, but never
OpenGL or graphic drivers, they always relies on systems installed
implementation for that, and for Steam first run, it asks for sudo
password and installs OpenGL via apt-get automatically.

2) Most importantly, this is a bug were a process hungs in kernelspace
(I can't even kill it with SIGKILL), so no matter what library or
application or any userspace code I could be running, this should never
happen. No custom library Steam could install as my non-privileged user
is able to change code running in kernelspace. This is why this bug was
filled against "linux" package.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1487890] [NEW] [synaptic] no history

2015-08-23 Thread Ralf Mardorf
Public bug reported:

Hi,

a while back after an upgrade I lost synaptic's history. I can't
remember when it happened and can't test by downgrading,
/var/log/apt/history.log still is available.

When running the current version with the lost history, there are a few

Currently just Claws, IceCat and a kernel are not from official
repositories. Synaptic history also isn't available when using a kernel
from the repositories. Other non-standard packages I want to use are
rodent and libfm, but currently those packages are purged. IOW nothing
that isn't from official repositories is related to the bug.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1436940] Re: Atheros wifi 168c:0041(QCA6164) is not supported

2015-08-23 Thread Ryan
Hi Diego,

It's finally working! Thank you so much for your help. What seemed to be
the final problem is I was running kernel 4.2 but after downgrading to
your kernel (4.1.0), everything worked.

Title:
[HP Stream Notebook - 11-d010nr] Trackpad click does not work

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I have installed ubuntu 14.10 onto a new HP Stream 11 laptop. The
trackpad is a clickpad where the entire trackpad is pushed down to
simulate a click, there are no other buttons. It seems that the
trackpad works fine with the exception that no clicks are registered.

'ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-input-synaptics' could not be ran as it doesn't seem
to have an option to hit "send" from the keyboard and the mentioned mouse
button is not working.

I followed the information collection from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection and the files will be
attached to this bug

[HP Stream Notebook - 11-d010nr] Clickpad click does click reliably

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Using the Ubuntu 15.04 daily build as of 2014-12-29, the HP Stream 11
  laptop touchpad cannot reliably cilck.

The touchpad is a clickpad where the entire touchpad is pushed down to
simulate a click. Alternatively, the user can lightly tap the touchpad
once to send a left click command, or tap with two fingers to send a
right click command. There are no other buttons. It seems that the
touchpad works fine with the exception that after some time clicks
fail to register. Usually if I quickly alternate between left and
right clicks, eventually the left click feature will work.
Occasionally the mouse will also fail to click into the area the
cursor hovering over, instead effecting the active widget selection
irregardless of the cursor location on the screen.

I updated the BIOS, but the problem still occurs after a few minutes
  of use.

The output of the dmidecode command is:
  F.06
  11/14/2014

  The computer model is 11-d010nr.

Title:
"lsusb -v" as root freezes the kernel on Acer ES1-111

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  reproducible: always

  Steps to reproduce:
  - open a terminal
  - sudo bash
  - lsusb -v

In a virtual terminal, the command prints the name of the first device
it finds, then the system freezes completely. In a terminal of the
desktop, I don't even get the name of the device, the system freezes
immediately. Either way, I have to power off the machine. There is no
kernel oops. Nothing is written to the log. The magic sysreq key
yields no response, although I have verified that it works before
  triggering the freeze.

I've narrowed down the problem by calling "lsusb -v -s ". The
system freezes on both devices of bus 3 (003:001 and 003:002). For all
other devices, it prints the expected output and continues to work.
When calling lsusb as a regular user, I get "Couldn't open device,
some information will be missing", then the regular output, and the
system keeps running. Therefore I assume that the problem is somewhere
in the kernel, when the devices are accessed.

This is a regression. It used to work in 14.10, and fails to work since 15.04.
It also used to work in 14.04.2, and fails in 14.04.3.
It fails with mainline builds 4.2.0-rc6-unstable, 4.2.0-rc2-unstable,
4.1.0-rc2-vivid. (yeah, I've been trying for a while :-)

Incidentally, the shutdown sequence also freezes early on with the
kernels that exhibit the problem; but I cannot be sure that the cause
is the same. I decided to first chase the USB freeze, because it was
easier to gather information about that.

As requested on the linux-usb mailing list, I've bisected the problem in
the mainline git repository.

638139eb95d2d241781330a321e88c8dafe46078 is the first bad commit
commit 638139eb95d2d241781330a321e88c8dafe46078
Author: Petr Mladek
Date: Fri Sep 19 17:32:24 2014 +0200

usb: hub: allow to process more usb hub events in parallel

It seems that only choose_devnum() was not ready to process more hub
events at the same time.

All should be fine if we take bus->usb_address0_mutex there. It will
make sure that more devnums will not be chosen for the given bus and
the related devices at the same time.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1487905] Re: package linux-image-3.16.0-46-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-46-generic' to '/boot/vmlinuz

2015-08-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2015-08-23 Thread Diego
Hi,

glad is working! I guess I will have to be extra careful when upgrading
my kernel now. Thanks for letting me know that :).

Hopefully support will be added to newer kernels though :).

Best,
Diego

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] is not supported

2015-08-23 Thread santicas20
For me on a clean install of Ubuntu 15.04 with kernel 3.19.0-15-generic
it worked.

First I installed dkms:

$ sudo apt-get install dkms

Then I followed post #258 downloading the package from post #244.

After restarting Wifi was recognized immediately, but the first time I
connected to my network the speed was extremely slow.
After connecting and disconnecting a couple of times, it is now working fine,
although I haven't tested the speed thoroughly compared to windows.

Thanks to Adam and Aaron!

Title:
[Regression] Unprivileged containers fail to start in linux-lts-utopic

Status in linux-lts-utopic package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  == SRU Justification ==

  Impact: linux-lts-utopic 3.16.0-46.62 contains a regression which
prevents unprivileged containers from starting due to a failure
  mounting sysfs.

  Fix: Backport of upstream commit
f9bb48825a6b5d02f4cabcc78967c75db903dcdc, which is marked for stable
but is missing from 3.16 stable. Another stable commit that did get
  into 3.16 requires this patch.

Regression potential: This patch is specifically targeted at
unprivileged mounts of virtual filesystems in containers and fixes a
regression there. It should have no impact on mounts in the host.

  ---

  linux-lts-utopic 3.16.0-46.62 contains a regression mounting
unprivileged containers. The log shows a failure mounting sysfs:

    lxc-start 20150427012246.807 ERRORlxc_conf -
  conf.c:lxc_mount_auto_mounts:819 - Operation not permitted - error
mounting sysfs on /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lxc/sys flags 14

This is due to missing upstream commit
  f9bb48825a6b5d02f4cabcc78967c75db903dcdc.

Bug description:
hv_netvsc: Use the xmit_more skb flag to optimize signaling the host
Based on the information given to this driver (via the xmit_more skb flag),
we can defer signaling the host if more packets are on the way. This will help
make the host more efficient since it can potentially process a larger batch
of
  packets. Implement this optimization.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1487919] [NEW] macbookrpro12, 1 fails to suspend

2015-08-23 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

I've installed wily on a new macbookpro12,1 (2015 model), and suspending
the system results in the screen going black and the apple light turning
off, but the system is not fully asleep -- the 'force touch' pad still
makes clicking feedback, and the machine continues to generate heat and
spin fans if put into a bag. Once in this state, the machine cannot be
woken up from the state its in either.

did a "journalctl -f | tee sleep.log' while this was happening and got
the following output -- let me know if there is a better way to figure
out where things are going wrong:

Hi,

glad is working! I guess I will have to be extra careful when upgrading
my kernel now. Thanks for letting me know that :).

Hopefully support will be added to newer kernels though :).

Best,
Diego

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1475166] Re: Ubuntu 15.04 Install Error with Avago Controller

2015-08-23 Thread Johnny Chang
Hi Bryan,

We have done bisection, and found the first bad commit is "34b48db" as shown
below.
With this bad commit, the filesystem returns I/O error while copying files to
disk.

We use the same config file copy from ubuntu 14.10, and follow the build
instruction[1].
Would you like to build an install-able ISO image with reverting this commit?
And then we can verify if the installation issue can be solved.

commit 34b48db66e08ca1c1bc07cf305d672ac940268dc
Author: Christoph Hellwig
Date: Sat Sep 6 16:08:05 2014 -0700
block: remove artifical max_hw_sectors cap
Set max_sectors to the value the drivers provides as hardware limit by
default. Linux had proper I/O throttling for a long time and doesn't
rely on a artifically small maximum I/O size anymore. By not limiting
the I/O size by default we remove an annoying tuning step required for
most Linux installation.
Note that both the user, and if absolutely required the driver can still
impose a limit for FS requests below max_hw_sectors_kb.

  Hello Canonical Team

We are running to an issue installing ubuntu PPC64LE 15.04 full blown

An important part of our configuration is Avago RAID controller:
