[kmail2] [Bug 424989] New: Threaded emails: Kmail freezes by responding on last email
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424989 Bug ID: 424989 Summary: Threaded emails: Kmail freezes by responding on last email Product: kmail2 Version: 5.14.3 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: message list Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org Reporter: bernhard.schei...@tuwien.ac.at Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY KMail freezes if you answer on the last in a list of threaded emails (about 10). This has been observed for months or even longer, so this behaviour has been present also in older versions of KMail. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Establish longer threaded email conversation with one partner to produce about 10 entries in a thread. 2. Answer on last email. 3. Kmail does not respond / freezes. OBSERVED RESULT KMail freezes and hangs up, restarting sometimes not working (requires full logout or even reboot) EXPECTED RESULT normal response. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428641 Bug ID: 428641 Summary: Emoticons no longer converted into emojis in Kmail 5.15.2 Product: kmail2 Version: 5.15.2 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: composer Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org Reporter: bernhard.schei...@tuwien.ac.at Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open a new message (Rich/HTML format). 2. Type ";-)" or ":-)" or ... in text, then send. 3. Reciepient gets this as smiley/plain text -- not automatically converted! OBSERVED RESULT Recipient sees simple smiley as typed! EXPECTED RESULT Recipient expects smiley replaced by colored emoji! SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: opensUSE Tumbleweed, all latest versions (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.20 KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This worked perfectly in earlier versions, with the colored emojis in Breeze style! Only workaround: add an emoji from "Add Smiley" in the toolbar once emojis are installed. By default, these are only black/white, one has to add manually colored emojics (another nuisance). All that was never necessary in earlier versions of KDE/Kmail (and is not the expected state-of-the art behaviour). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 428640] Emoticons theme no more visible in System Settings/Icons
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428640 --- Comment #3 from B. Scheichl --- Dear KDE support, dear Mr. Zobel & Mr. Feck, OK; I see that was removed from the icons settings as emojis rely on Unicode throughout. @Mr. Zobel's question: I cannot remember the KDE version when the emojis could be adjusted in the icons settings there, but I guess about 1 year ago. The reason why I thought that this is a bug is that I cannot find way to adjust the smiley -> emoji conversion. In e.g. kmail, smileys are no longer converted automatically - I have to pick up an emoji from the toolbar, which is annoying and unusual nowadays. Even more, I had to install coloured emojis (noto) as these are also no longer part of standard KDE (in openSUSE). Maybe you can help - appreciated much. Kind regards, B. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports *** Replying to the last email in a long thread (about >10 emails) becomes impossible: at first, there si long delay betwen typing and the actual input in the composer window. After some time, the window freezes, typing-in is no longer possible and a pop-up window suggests to terminate Kmail2. Teminating causes Kmail2 eventually to crash. Restarting Kmail2 takes quite long, then the last message window pops up agin and must be killed to work with Kmail2 again, but replaying to the last email is not possible. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Produce rather long threaded message list (about more than 10 replies emails). 2. Try to reply to last message. 3. Typing in answering window heavily delayed, finally Kmail freezes, message pops up after about 1 minute, suggests to terminate Kmail2 - no more action possible part from terminating. 4. Terminate Kmail2. 5. Restart Kmail2. OBSERVED RESULT Kmail freezes, message pops up after about 1 minute, suggests to terminate Kmail2, crashes after termination, starting Kmail again gives a long delay, last message window pops up again and must be killed to go on. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=449024 --- Comment #26 from B. Scheichl --- Dear Antonio, many thanks for this. Do you know a time schedule for solving the issue & implementing an update into the distros? This happens independently of the specific choices under "View/Set encoding". "Auto" should do the job, but fails. Any argument that the incoming email probably has a wrong encoding in its header is NOT applicable: 1) any other email client can handle the same emails correctly without any fiddling; 2) most important and annoying: it worked perfectly until January/February 2020 or so - but then the updates started to be buggy! Interestingly, the encoding becomes correct when forwarding/replying to the email. This is bug should definitely not occur in modern email client in 2020.
