I actually have a patch to add GPU accelerated VP9 encoding to KPipeWire (the
library Spectacle uses for recording), but the problem is I don't have any way
to test it. If you're willing and able to test that the patch works, we could
merge it. https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kpipewire/-/merge_requests/91

Hi Ilgaz,

The AppImage startup script must print the Linux host info on the first lines.
These info are used to decide which shared libs must be loaded from the bundle
or from the host.

Can you give me a trace of the AppImage startup up on your computer ?

Oh, I didn't realize it's that new! But that means either the old async API
didn't work, or it's not used right by kio-extras.

> There wont be a lot of distributions offering that version yet.

Yep, that takes a while. Maybe a fallback would be an option, so that those
with fast/up-to-date distros can already benefit, but it will still work for
all others? I know, that's a lot of work...

In any case, I've just filed a request for Gentoo, so I hope they will add
libssh 0.11.0 soon (https://bugs.gentoo.org/939413).

[kwin] [Bug 492933] New: Level 5 symbol on key having ISO_Level5_Latch on level 1 is ignored

2024-09-10 Thread Aldoo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492933

Bug ID: 492933
Summary: Level 5 symbol on key having ISO_Level5_Latch on level
1 is ignored
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.1.4
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: input
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: aldo-pub...@laposte.net
  Target Milestone: ---

Reproduction :
1. Set keyboard layout Ergo-L (for instance), assuming you have a recent xkb
2. focus a text input in a Wayland window
3. press key [O] (supposed to be the level5 latch in Ergo-L)
4. press a second time (level 5 of [O] is dead diaeresis in Ergo-L)
5. press key [D] (character "e" in Ergo-L)

Expected:
4. should display an indicator that dead diaeresis is active
5. should output character "ë"

Observed:
4. nothing
5. character "e" (without diacritics) is output

This has been happening at least since plasma 6.1.4.

It does not affect:
- X11 apps
- level 5 symbols on other keys
- symbols on other levels than 5 on the key havingy ISO_Level5_Latch on level 1

More data : I checked the changelog of version 6.1.4 and noticed some work
concerning level latches. Could it be related ?
Suspected change:

Nothing special about that so its unlikely the problem is there.

Can you try to use perf or hotspot to profile Kate when it is slow?
- Download the appimage https://github.com/kdab/hotspot/
- Make sure `perf` installed
- Start Kate
- Start hotspot appimage. File -> Record data. Then select "Attach to Process"
in the top left corner, then select the kate process and click start recording
- Switch over to Kate. Do the thing which makes it slow.
- Switch back to hotspot and stop recording. click "View results". Then either
share the flamegraph (View -> Export), or the perfparser file (File Save
as...).

I am getting the same error message and I will add a bit more context:

I am on Arch Linux and I started using KDE initially with ly [1].
As I saw later that sddm was recommended I installed sddm, enabled it and tried
to start using it.
Now when I log in with sddm instead of ly, I get the error message described
above. gpg works fine, kwallet just seems to be unable to load my wallet.
When I go back to ly, it works fine again.

If I try to open a wallet in kwalletmanager, it just freezes. As in: it freezes
as soon as I click "Open"; I can't even select a wallet to open in the first
place. If started from the command line, there is no additional logging.
Similarly, if I run `kwallet-query -v -l kdewallet` it hangs; I am not getting
an error message. That said, it is possible I did not wait long enough for a
timeout to occur.

- kwallet 6.5.0-1
- kwallet-pam 6.1.4-1
- kwalletmanager 24.08.0

[kwin] [Bug 492936] New: Default Mouse Click Animation effect to Enabled when user checks the box in the Desktop Effects KCM

2024-09-10 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492936

Bug ID: 492936
Summary: Default Mouse Click Animation effect to Enabled when
user checks the box in the Desktop Effects KCM
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.1.4
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-window-management
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: filip.kend...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Currently, when user enables Mouse Click Animation in the Desktop Effects KCM,
the effect is still disabled by default until user enables it using the Meta+*
shortcut.

I propose that the effect gets enabled immediately when user enables it through
the Desktop Effects KCM

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Desktop Effects KCM
2. Check the Mouse Click Animation effect and click the Apply button
3. Try to click anywhere -> Effect is not enabled

OBSERVED RESULT
Mouse Click Animation is not enabled when user checks the Mouse Click Animation
effect and clicks the Apply button

EXPECTED RESULT
User is required to do an additional step of executing a keyboard shortcut to
enable the Click effect

SUMMARY
I've installed MariaDB (11.4 or 11.1) on a new Windows 11 PC. When I start
digikam 8.5.0 and configure it to use MySQL Internal database, using MariaDB,
the settings are wiped when I exit the configure dialog.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install MariaDB.
2. Configure digikam to use MySQL Internal database, using the installed
MariaDB programs.
3. Exit configure dialog.

OBSERVED RESULT
Entering settings again shows 'No entry' icons against the MariaDB programs.
digikam scans photos and shows the new album and its folders, then starts to
scan for new items.
After a time the progress bar stills shows zero progress and no items are shown
in the album(s).

EXPECTED RESULT
Scan shows images in the album's folders.

[neon] [Bug 492938] New: KWeather segfaults because its binary is incompatible with KWeatherCore

2024-09-10 Thread Wolfgang Müller
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492938

Bug ID: 492938
Summary: KWeather segfaults because its binary is incompatible
with KWeatherCore
Classification: KDE Neon
   Product: neon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Packages User Edition
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: accounts+kde@oriole.systems
CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 173521
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=173521&action=edit
debugger info on frame 0 and frame 1

The latest version of KWeather, 24.08.0-0zneon+22.04+jammy+release+build1, is
binary incompatible with the corresponding release of KWeatherCore,
24.08.0-0zneon+22.04+jammy+release+build1. What this means in practice is that
KWeather segfaults once attempting to show location results following a search:

#0  KWeatherCore::LocationQueryResult::countryName (this=0x7fff5c61e780) at
./src/locationqueryresult.cpp:79
#1 0x55580a50 in buildResultName (result=...) at
./src/locationquerymodel.cpp:35
#2  LocationQueryModel::data (this=, index=..., role=)
at ./src/locationquerymodel.cpp:46

This is a consequence of
https://invent.kde.org/libraries/kweathercore/-/merge_requests/74 where
KWeatherCore's LocationQueryResult was changed to have countryName be
determined dynamically by countryCode instead of itself being a QString.

It seems that the new binary for KWeather was built before KWeatherCore when
instead it should have been built against the updated version of KWeatherCore.
The types of "this" in frame 0 and of "result" in frame 1 do not match; with
KWeather still expecting the old interface, countryName() is called with the
wrong arguments. See attachment for detailed gdb output.

Merely manually rebuilding KWeather from the apt sources on the machine solves
the problem.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. apt install kweather
2. Open up KWeather and attempt to add a location.

OBSERVED RESULT

KWeather crashes with a segfault.

EXPECTED RESULT

The list of matching locations is displayed in the app.

Sorry I was away from home for several days, I tested your suggestion but it
didn't change the result.

I changed the gradient colors to red and green and forced it to be always
visible, and it seems to render perfectly.

I also forced the visibility of the label and it always appears fine.

The problem is surely coming from these two boolean checks:

Item
visible: !menuItem.ListView.isCurrentItem

OpacityMask
 visible: !!source && menuItem.ListView.isCurrentItem

"isCurrentItem" is crazily jumping between "false" and "true", it holds "true"
only for certain cases if I scroll via mouse wheel or reenter a previously
highlighted item, the same for that "source" it always holds "undefined" when I
move mouse pointer over never highlighted items.

Git commit b9dbd1fb37e34daacf396d2bfdb685527e8ecdfe by Jonathan L. Verner.

Lock the DUChain when retrieving the declaration for a StructureType

The call to `KDevelop::IdentifiedType::declaration` requires the DUChain
to be at least read locked, since it calls
`KDevelop::DUChain::chainForIndex`,
which is documented to require a read lock on the DUChain

The commit also removes a (slightly) related misdocumentation of
`Helper::resolveAliasDeclaration`, which claimed to need a read

Is this happening again? On my Pixel 7a, it seems that the exact symptoms have
appeared again after an update (Android 14), just like how I remembered it.

I'm getting the dreaded "Some Plugins need permissions to work (tap for more
info): Filesystem expose". And once again, it asks you to configure a storage
location and doesn't let you pick home.

It's only "cosmetic" that after calling the dialog for the second time the
MariaDB files are shown as not found. It still works. The reason is that every
Maria version in the path has the version number and we are only looking for a
specific version. I will fix the problem, deleting the DB and config was
completely unnecessary.

[digikam] [Bug 350446] Port MacOS PKG to Arm64 Apple Silicon.

2024-09-10 Thread Michael Miller
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350446

Hi Gilles,
>Do not try to build an universal version, this will bloat the bundles for
>nothing as a x86_64 version already exists.

No, my plan is to do at least 3 different builds Mac ARM64, Mac x86-64, Linux
x86-64 (AppImage) and minimally test each one to make sure I didn't break
anything.

My build machines:
* Mac ARM64 - Sonoma (M1)
* Mac x86-64 Sonoma (Core I9) (I don't have an older Mac with an old version of
the OS)
* Linux x86-64 - Kubuntu 24.02 (VM on Core I9 Mac)

Since almost all my changes are to the 01-04 build Bah files, CMake and patch
files I think this should be sufficient to ensure I didn't break anything. I
don't think I had to change any source files other than core/app/main/main.cpp.

Unfortunately, without access to the detailed configuration of an alarm which
triggered at the wrong time, there isn't enough information to investigate this
issue - it isn't something which has been reported before. If it happens again,
please attach the alarm calendar (perhaps expired.ics) containing the alarm
which was wrong.

Unfortunately we do not really have much control over what ubuntu ships.

I understand possibly you need to install some other package that provides the
speak functionality, but I have no idea.

I have two suggestions for you.

1) try https://discuss.kde.org/ to see if someone with Ubuntu expertise can
help you figure out which extra packages you need to install

2) try installing okular from flathub https://flathub.org/apps/org.kde.okular
If speak functionality does not work there, please file a bug and i just
realized there's also a bug in
https://github.com/flathub/org.kde.okular/issues/73

I apologize for all of this being very broken :/

Ok so this happened to me again today when I scanned for new items. It cleared
out the album field on all images, not on videos.
When I scanned a second time it started to add them back in again.

Immich was running a metadata scan on the xmp sidecar files at the sametime, so
maybe that had a lock on the path? I really can't think of any other reason for
this.

I left the 'Find new items' process running for several hours yesterday and
half an hour, or so, this morning. No new items had been added to the
database.
Once I reverted to MariaDB 11.1 and a new database the system started
running as expected. I tried to produce a debug, but my stupid antivirus
blocked Sysinternals from installing.
Thanks for your response,
Steve

Classification: Applications
   Product: digikam
   Version: 8.4.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED

Import view preview file name

SUMMARY

The fractional / sub seconds value of an image is not being read or applied to
the filename. For example, with a format code of [date:"-MM-dd
hh-mm-ss.zzz"], the zzz part is always 000 when displayed in the "New name"
column and when applying the rename operation.

Note however, when in Import view, the fractional seconds element is correctly
displayed in the example output field when selecting an image, but when
applying the format, the value also goes to 000.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE - Renamer View
1. Select image
2. Press F2 / Rename
3. Enter [date:"-MM-dd hh-mm-ss.zzz"] into format / name field

OBSERVED RESULT - Renamer View
All image names in "New Name" column are 000 where zzz format specifier is
used.

EXPECTED RESULT - Renamer View
The fractional seconds value is displayed and applied correctly.

-

STEPS TO REPRODUCE - Import View
1. Import from a device
2. In the File Renaming Options section, enable Customise and set the field to
[date:"-MM-dd hh-mm-ss.zzz"]
3. Click on any of the images and observe the previewed name in the File
Renaming Options.

OBSERVED RESULT - Import View
Preview file name is correct with the zzz section showing fractional seconds,
but the actual import and rename process results in 000 for the zzz section of
the file name.

EXPECTED RESULT - Import View
Both previewed file name and actual file name match, and both have fractional
seconds correctly read from the file.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

kamoso (23.08.5) using Qt 5.15.13

I get this crash if the camera is already in use by OBS Studio. It should
probably display a relevant error out rather than crash though.

This is not a bug, only if a fractional second is present in the date in the
DB, it can be adopted. The date usually comes from the original date in the
metadata, but this rarely has a fractional second.

Thanks Maik. Okay, I can see your point of view for the renamer view but the
import section seems like a bug:

"Note however, when in Import view, the fractional seconds element is correctly
displayed in the example output field when selecting an image, but when
applying the format, the value also goes to 000."

[dolphin] [Bug 492943] New: Dolphin can't retain tags/ratings of directories when copying

2024-09-10 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492943

Bug ID: 492943
Summary: Dolphin can't retain tags/ratings of directories when
copying
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 24.08.0
  Platform: NixOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: m1vri...@duck.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Using copy and paste (or ctrl+drag) on a tagged/rated file will copy that file
including tags and ratings. The same is not true when copying tagged/rated
directories, in which case the tags/ratings are lost. Move still seems to work.

'cp -r -a' command still works to retain tags/ratings.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Copy and paste a tagged or rated directory

OBSERVED RESULT
Tags/ratings are lost of any tagged/rated directory copied.

EXPECTED RESULT
Tags/ratings are retained, just as they are with files.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: NixOS 24.11
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.5.0
