Mmm, but that's also unexpected, isn't it? shouldn't the link then open in a
new tab instead of a new window?

I will try to test from scratch and let you know about the result

[dolphin] [Bug 453756] Location bar resets after several seconds when typing

2023-06-05 Thread Luca Manganelli
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453756

I think I finally found the cause of this bug!

I have Docker that generates continuously (ever second) a file called
/tmp/runc-* and deletes it.

This prevents the editing ability on the location bar.

Stoppoing Docker fixes this problem.

[systemsettings] [Bug 154804] Add option for alternative Drag&Drop behaviour

2023-06-05 Thread jimbo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154804

It seems pretty intuitive that dragging and dropping is by default a move
operation. It's nice to have the option to prompt beginners as to what they
want to do, but it soon becomes a nuisance.

Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V are not 'poweruser' shortcuts, they are as commonly used as
Ctrl+Z and Esc. If users want to copy a file then Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V are most
likely used, not via the context menu. If you can copy/paste text, then the
same applies to files. Initially you might learn to click the file, select
copy, navigate to a different folder and select paste. However copy/pasting is
used so often (throughout all programs) that it's one of the first shortcut
keys you learn, same applies to undo (no one goes through the context menu for
it once they learn the shortcut).

Windows allows the user to alter the outcome of the drag and drop during the
operation. If you want to copy or create a link then there are modifier keys
that can be held down. Using the modifier keys, there is visual feedback like a
'+' sign or 'arrow' added to the mouse cursor, but if no modifier key is
pressed then it defaults to move.

I think I had this bug for a while, in 22.04 and 22.10. Up until now I
restarted the system or restarted kde, which was a pain, so thanks for the
workaround.

[Powerdevil] [Bug 406790] No OSD shown when adjusting the keyboard backlight using keyboard keys that cycle through brightness levels rather than explicitly raising or lowering brightness

2023-06-05 Thread Unknown
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406790

--- Comment #7 from Werner Sembach [TUXEDO] ---
Thanks for adding me to the loop.

I would apprechiate a proper keyboard backlight cycle key implementation. Just
last week I probed the lkml for feedback and interest:

https://lore.kernel.org/all/20230530110550.18289-1-...@tuxedocomputers.com/

I don't know how Qt keycodes map to linux kernel keycodes, because currently
there are only 3 keycodes for backlight control in the kernel: Up, Down, and
Toggle.

As we have quite a collection of different keyboard backlight, I'm able to
provide testing and design feedback, so let me know when there is a prototype.

@George Vassilev: Die you have a cat
/sys/class/leds/*kbd_backlight/brightness_hw_changed entry with the driver
installed? ('*' = wildcard, maybe something like asus::kbd_backlight or
asus:white:kbd_backlight or white:kbd_backlight)

[kalarm] [Bug 470477] Cannot create alarms

2023-06-05 Thread David Jarvie
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470477

This problem is clearly due to Akonadi. It is because of its unreliability that
KAlarm (since version 3, released in 2020 in KDE Apps 20.08) no longer uses
Akonadi. Upgrading would be the most reliable way to fix the issue.

In the meantime, I suggest trying the following. In each case, quit KAlarm
first before running the fix. In a terminal window, run the commands
akonadictl vacuum
akonadictl fsck

If that doesn't fix things, run the commands
akonadictl stop
rm ~/.config/akonadi_*kalarm*rc
rm ~/.config/akonadi/*_kalarm*

If that still doesn't fix things, all I can think of is to completely wipe
Akonadi's configuration. WARNING: this should only be done if you don't use any
other KDE PIM applications which use Akonadi, such as KMail, KOrganizer, KNotes
(and possibly others), since those applications could lose data. It would be
wise to back up all files and directories before deleting them, so that you can
reinstate them afterwards if things go wrong. To wipe the Akonadi
configuration,

akonadictl stop
rm -rf ~/.config/akonadi*
rm -rf ~/.local/share/akonadi*

[kdeconnect] [Bug 470660] New: KDEconnect disconnects on mac

2023-06-05 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470660

Bug ID: 470660
   Summary: KDEconnect disconnects on mac
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: macOS (DMG)
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: macos-application
  Assignee: turx2...@gmail.com
  Reporter: nagrap...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

I downloaded KDE connect on my m2 MacBook air from the official website, and it
works perfectly until my mac goes to sleep.

Once my laptop wakes from sleep, the connection with my android phone is lost.
The hostname in the mac app shows this message, "The name org.kde.kdeconnect
was not provided by any .service fil".

To fix this, I have to close the app on my mac and open it again or unpair and
repair the device. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

related bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470106

I have a 2 monitor setup, integrated laptop screen and dp-4k monitor.
Wait until powerdevil is locking the screen, and, after some time, dimming the
(laptop-only) monitor.
Then interrupt by keyboard press.
Login again.

Expectation:
Laptop screen brightness should be restored to the same level as before.
What happens instead:
The laptop brightness is 'a bit' brighter than previously dimmed, but still way
too dark.

My current workaround is to explicitly call brightnessctl with 'my' settings to
get the display bright enough again (or use Fn-* keys)

Baloo in System Monitor 1

Every day, Baloo is indexing *something* for hours. System monitor lists open
files ./local/shareimime/mime.cache and /urs/share/mime/mime.cache, are they
maybe corrupt or something? This hours-long indexing is causing cumulated
massive unnecessary power consumption. I don’t know since how long this is a
issue but in the summer time, its evident with raising room temperature. The
only way is to kill Baloo, day for day. It’s not like there are that much new
files, it’s also happening on days with pure surfing.

[plasma-nm] [Bug 470667] New: Add setting to share wifi password for all users by default

2023-06-05 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470667

Bug ID: 470667
Summary: Add setting to share wifi password for all users by
default
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasma-nm
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: editor
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tomash...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Use case:

We are on a road, two people sharing one computer, having to users on it. We
get to a new accomodation several times a week, connecting to new wifi. Each
user needs to enter the password manually - or one of them needs to set in the
settings to share the password for both users. It would be great if the default
could be set to share the passwords to all users.

It would probably also allow connecting to wifi before login as requested here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/eiayx0/share_all_the_network_manager_connections_by/

Solution:
There is already a window for general configuration for settings (under
individual networks, the icon for settings, the dialog has under General "Ask
for PIN on modem detection" and "Show virtual connections".
I propose a new setting "Share password for new connections to all users".

(I would not mind making that the default, wifi passwords are ordinarily no
secrets, but I undersand circumstances might vary).

In Plasma 5 this worked as expected. In Plasma 6, you need to click on an area
of the list item that isn't covered by the label item. Apparently the label is
eating clicks now, so they never make it to the list item underneath.

Created attachment 159479

Map plus geotagged images

I have installed digiKam version 8.0. This is supposed to display geotagged
images on a map. This is an important application for which there currently
appears to be only one program that can do this Adobe Lightroom. For those of
us who do not use Lightroom, digiKam should be a very useful alternative.

Unfortunately digikam 8.0 does not work for me. I was able to open a folder of
geotagged files and when I pressed the MAP button, I obtained a screen map of
the United Kingdom as shown in the attachment. The circles seem to indicate 52
RAW images (all geotagged) plus 55 JPG images of which 52 are geotagged. I am
unable to enlarge this map any further.

I had expected to be able to enlarge this map further and as it expanded
thumbnail sized images to be shown where each image was taken.

Could you kindly advise if this is likely to be a forthcoming upgrade.

You might like to be aware that the new owner of Olympus cameras has withdrawn
there support for displaying geotagged images on a computer monitor, even
though they upgraded the app for adding geotags.

[plasmashell] [Bug 470670] New: Clicking-and-holding on a desktop widget no longer allows it to be dragged immediately

In Plasma 5, when you click-and-hold on a desktop widget, you can immediately
move it by moving the cursor. In Plasma 6, this is no longer the case; the
initial click-and-hold enters edit mode, but does not also initiate a drag. You
need to first enter edit mode, then drag it as a separate action.

Using X11; have not tested Wayland yet.

On my system, KAlarm quits when the main window is closed in these
circumstances (as it is supposed to do). Strange...

KAlarm is not designed to run as a daemon, so when the application is closed,
there is no background task to trigger alarms. If that is what you require, you
will need to look for an alternative to KAlarm.

This should be fixed now for Kirigami.SearchField, but I see that
PlasmaExtras.SearchField has drifted out of sync with it and probably needs the
same fix done there.

For components that are mirrored across Kirigami and PlasmaExtras
(PlaceholderMessage, ActionTextField, SearchField, PasswordField) we need to
make sure we're applying any changes made to both, until the time when we can
delete the PlasmaExtras versions and use Kirigami visual components in Plasma
and have the styling work properly.
