Re: [Gambas-user] Gambas on Suse 11.4
It was said Gambas doesn't work in openSuse 11.4 and 11.3: 11.3 I can confirm that it does on 11.3. Ik have 11.3 on my laptop with Gambas 2.21. As far as I remember, I added the "Educational" repository in openSuse's packet manager. Then you can add software, look for gambas2 or gb2. Maybe I installed some KDE3 packages before, or -for some other software- let it install by the packet manager. 11.4 In 11.4, I also added the Educational repository, Searched for gambas and choose gambas2 in the package manager, but that gives error on libstdc++ in the packet manager (although it is installed in version libstdc++45). Ik just let the package manager ignore the error and Gambas2 (version 2.2) can start up and run a smal test with a form + a button to close the form - did not yet try more like running existing projects though. There is a Thread on forums.opensuse.org where Capodastro says that he had problems with Gambas and other things in 11.4, but he got around it: that everything worked when he upgraded from 11.3 to 11.4. Re: [Gambas-user] Installing on Mac OSX 10.6.7
You can install it in a Virtual Machine. I would like a native Gambas version on mac though, but untill then I make a Gambas application available to a mac user via parallels. I installed Parallels, installed Linux with Gambas in it, autostart Gambas in the desktop. It's an extra cost but it works well. Just take a note of the key combination to return to OS-X if you go full screen. I can avoid Windows, but I can't avoid mac for the work to be done. [Gambas-user] Integrating ChartsClass bar-line-pie for Gambas2
I have the source code of a class to make charts that I want to use in my gambas 2 application. https://sourceforge.net/projects/chartsclass/ What is the best way to do that? Copy the files of Charts and subclasses: CChart + CChartBar + CChartLine + CChartPie in my project directory? (And then make executable). At least that works, but what with later updates of the chartsclass(es)? Does somebody know somewhere a description with example (for Gambas2)? Re: [Gambas-user] Gambas Future: shift away from Linux?
I will be one of the first to use the possibility to let users run some gambas app on OSX (not to work on it myself). But if I really have to, I can run in a VM, so I wouldn't ask someone/B. to spent time on it at the cost of the own advances of Gambas on Linux. We have a nice platform: Linux. We have the best desktop, and we even have choice. And for some years, we have a great Development Environment: Gambas. People that want to do so can do whatever they want if they follow the license. The 'lock down' is rather a 'lock open'. So just keep on doing the nice job as long as you can. Choose "New" button, that gives you a list of languages, choose e.g. Portuguese (Brazil). - You see the list of untranslated texts, choose one. - You see the lower empty box without title or tooltip; put the translation there. Save often. - to check the translation to work, run the project on a Portuguese-installed desktop. Gambas uses the language of the environment. To see yours, in the Gambas console, type ? system.language gives me: en_US.UTF-8 - For your own projects, you can let the user select the language, and keep it in a setting, eg "General/Language". At start of your app, call it with System.Language = Settings["General/Language"] It will only be active for the windows (form) opened afterwards, so you might want to call it before any forms are opened. I use MMain as startup class, do initialisations, then call FMain from there. As far as I know, the translations themselves are stored as *.po and/or *.mo files in the .lang directory (at least in gb2). success, WiG -- Open source business process management suite built on Java and Eclipse Turn processes into business applications with Bonita BPM Community Edition Quickly connect people, data, and systems into organized workflows Winner of BOSSIE, CODIE, OW2 and Gartner awards http://p.sf.net/sfu/Bonitasoft ___ Gambas-user mailing list Gambas-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gambas-user

Indeed, can be extended to intercept the command shell error, rest is the same, in the end it is one big string that is deliverd to SHELL. Re: [Gambas-user] How to write a multilingual application
The language is selected on project start; it depends on the language of the system you work on (shell: echo $LANG) If you programmed your project in English, and made translations for French and German then a French system runs the French version, a German system runs the German version If the language is not available (or the translation for a particular string is missing) you get the English version/string. The language files are stored in .po files in the .lang directory of the project (as is said in http://gambasdoc.org/help/howto/translate); all are included if you make a source archive etc. If a language seems to miss, check the language name (e.g. nl_BE for Dutch in Belgium might not be found, while being the same translation as nl_NL for Dutch of the Netherlands, that might be available). You can force gambas to start with a language; start gambas with a parameter as this: LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8 to start in Dutch. Switching only works "from then on" when you change the language under program control with System.Language = "de_DE" But all Forms that are open already (e.g. Main) will stay in startup language. I tend to let the user choose a language (at first start-up and later changeable from a menu) and store it with the system of settings: (http://gambasdoc.org/help/comp/gb.settings) Settings["Language"] = fr_FR First thing to do is read the language setting and use it, only then start to load Forms that display text. It is a little bit more comfortable than to multi-boot Linux systems with other languages installed, just to check the languages as developer... Hope this gets you started! > I've seen the built-in translator for Gambas, but I don't know how could I > switch languages inside an application. Re: [Gambas-user] How to write a multilingual application
To "M. Cs": Before .lang... In older versions I read the languages by reading the .po files in de .lang directory: PUBLIC SUB ChooseLanguage() Dialog.Title = ("Choose a language file") Dialog.Path = Application.Path &/ ".lang" DEBUG Dialog.Path Dialog.Filter = ["*.po", "Language files", "*.mo", "Also Language files", "*.*", "All files"] IF Dialog.OpenFile() THEN RETURN ELSE txbxLanguage.Text = File.BaseName(Dialog.Path) ENDIF END I should change to Dir(".lang") now ... And I used MMain to start the application: PUBLIC SUB Main() IF Settings["General/Language"] <> "" TRY System.Language = Settings["General/Language"] ELSE Message.Info("No language set - see Tools, Preferences, General") ENDIF FMain.Show END Where FMain is the real Main screen, which has the right language setting from that moment on ... So you can change the language in the interface and it will be active for new windows, and completely active next program startup. Wig - Dir(".lang") should work at least in the most recent version of Gambas 2. There was a bug in older ones that prevented it from working as expected.
