[dev-servo] Mentors needed (on IRC)
Hi, I'll attend a bootcamp called "Taiwan Code Sprint", which is aimed to introducing newcomers to contributing to open source projects, There will be roughly 4~6 people working on Servo E-easy bugs on Aug 27 & 28, Taipei Time (GMT+8). Since I can't be there all day. We'd appreciate if you can drop by the IRC and Github issue/PRs more frequently during that time. Also, if you have any material about contribution workflow, codebase overview, project ideas, etc., please kindly let me know. Hopefully we can have attract more contributors! Also, if anyone has new E-easy's, it would be good to get them filed before this event so that the group has a reasonable amount to work on. jack. Re: [dev-servo] Mentors needed (on IRC)
I've started filing some (without marking them as E-easy and asking people not to work on them), and I'm adding them to the "Taiwant Code Sprint" milestone that I just created. Re: [dev-servo] Mentors needed (on IRC)
I happen to sleep pretty late, and actually write and read Traditional Chinese, so I'm quite likely to be on that time! Otherwise, I think Ms2ger, Manishearth, nox and waffles will be the people who are compatible with the GMT+8 timezone. [dev-servo] Student project opportunities
Hi folks! It's almost time for students to start attending classes again, so I'm making the usual call for project ideas for student contributors. I'm putting together a brainstorming list at https://github.com/servo/servo/wiki/Student-project-brainstorm ; please add ideas under the "Investigate to determine viability" heading. There are also some suggestions at https://github.com/servo/servo/wiki/Student-projects that I might put forward this time; we'll see! Details about the students: * 1 or 2 students from UPenn doing independent studies under the tutelage of @nfallen (expect semester-long involvement) * 4 groups of ~4 students from NCSU (expect two bursts of involvement over the course of the semester) Things to consider: * examples of successful past NCSU projects - localStorage/sessionStorage; HTTP authentication; persistent sessions; various improvements to existing devtools support; MIME sniffing; implement fundamentals of DOM WebSocket API * examples of successful past UPenn projects - supporting websockets in multiprocess mode; implement several referrer-policy delivery methods What these projects have in common is that they're well-scoped and we can articulate how they should be approached by students who are being exposed to Rust for the first time. Keep those goals in mind when brainstorming! I look forward to your suggestions. Cheers, Josh ___ dev-servo mailing list dev-servo@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-servo
