All JkMount and JkMountFile either need to be put into the VirtualHost you are
using, or you add "JkMountCopy All" to the global server, e.g. directly agfter
your JkLogLevel line.

Hacks were used in the past, but at the moment I prefer if the released
files correspond to the svn tag.

I think JMeter is definitely worth using for stress testing, but is overkill
for what I need. If, as Rainer suggests, there is already some code floating
around that does what I need, I'd appreciate someone pointing me to it. And it
does seem like it's worth bundling into some future release (but obviously not
a high priority).

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 47267] New: Display of Release Notes in Windows installer is broken due to LF endings

2009-05-26 Thread bugzilla
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=47267

Summary: Display of Release Notes in Windows installer is
broken due to LF endings
   Product: Tomcat 6
   Version: 6.0.18
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: Documentation
AssignedTo: dev@tomcat.apache.org
ReportedBy: knst.koli...@gmail.com

The Windows installer has option
[x] Show Readme
that is checked by default.

It results in file
"C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat
6.0\webapps\ROOT\RELEASE-NOTES.txt"
being opened in Notepad.

In TC 6.0.18 and in current RC for 6.0.20 that file has LF line ends. Notepad
cannot properly display such files.

Guenter,

Can you please elaborate a little bit on what has changed in 1.2.27/28 compared
to 1.2.23 which warrants changing config files? Or am I missing something?

Thank you,

Release notes, as displayed by Windows installer, are unreadable.
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=47267

The option to display the file is on by default, so it affects a lot
of people. Though may be most of them do not care.

Based on this, and on our issues with src.tar.gz archive, I change my vote to

[x] Beta

Please review and vote on current and upcoming proposed patches in STATUS.

That comment came from me, Rainer.

The change about putting JkMount into virtual hosts or use JkMountCopy was done
a couple of revisions ago. That was the major configuration incompatibility
that happened during the last two years

I suggest yo proceed this discussion - if neceaasry - on the tomcat users list,
because Bugzilla is not a support forum. You can come back to bugzilla and open
a new issue, if you do detect a bug, but for discussion of configuration
questions please use the users list.

2009-05-26 Thread bugzilla
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=41564

--- Comment #6 from Will Rowe 2009-05-26 11:21:12 PST ---
The Microsoft Windows Installer schema for the CustomAction table (used to
run .bat, .exe. .vbs or whatever) has a specific 'Type' bit 2048 to cause
msidbCustomActionTypeNoImpersonate so the step runs at LocalSystem privilege.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa368062.aspx
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa368069(VS.85).aspx

I guess the Tomcat project is using NullSoft so go there to seek wisdom in how
to resolve process elevation, that team should have already solved this puzzle
(or you picked the wrong installer schema).

--- Comment #7 from Will Rowe 2009-05-26 12:09:56 PST ---
Reviewing further, I see that service.bat is invoked by the user after install,
and not by the nullsoft installer.

Bogdan is correct in comment #4, however it seems more of a documentation
issue.
If the user will be modifying the system environment from a command prompt,
they
must do so from an admin cmd.exe shell, and there are only two ways to have
one;

1. right click on your cmd.exe ("Command Prompt" icon) and choose "Run as
   Administrator".

2. from the shell, invoke

   runas user:administrator "cmd.exe /k"

which will open a new admin-privileged shell.

There is no way to associate service.bat with elevation via a .manifest or
otherwise. Only actual .exe's can be associated. There is a code elevation
model for invoking programs as admin, see the am_RespawnAsUserAdmin()
implementation within the ApacheMonitor.exe app (which doesn't want to run-as
admin until it is absolutely required, and certainly not hang for a permission
change each time the user logs in!)

[PROPOSAL] Adding support for aliases to DirContext

2009-05-26 Thread Mark Thomas
All,

I have been looking into adding alias support to DirContext so
applications can pull in resources from external locations. I looked at
a couple of alternatives and settled on this patch (against trunk) as a
starting point:
http://people.apache.org/~markt/patches/2009-05-26-alias-DirContext.patch

It works at a basic level but I haven't done much testing and it is
probably far from complete. Before I go much further, I'm keen to hear
any feedback, particularly any ideas on alternative implementations that
might be simpler.

I'd like to get something like this into trunk for inclusion in Tomcat 7.

Mark

We could modify the service.bat allowing to call the install
using runas directy.
Think I'll add the command option to service.bat so it can
call runas directly from within the batch file.
