Next release 1.7.0

2018-05-18 Thread Barbara Pruijn
Hi all,

Nice work on getting the 1.6.0 release out the door! Next up is 1.7.0. We’ve
finished around 200 issues since the last release.

Any one want to volunteer for release manager? If you haven’t done this before
and would like to try, please review [1].

Re: Value Serialization Proposal for the New Client Protocol

2018-05-18 Thread Galen O'Sullivan

Hi Dan,

That's a good question. In the simplest implementation, we would remove
and not support JSON, but I suspect that JSON may be very useful for
users of, say, Node, or just for easier client implementation. In which
case we should keep it.

Hi Galen,

I put a bunch of comments inline in your wiki page. One general question -
is the a proposal to change the default value encoding with the protobuf
protocol from JSON to this new format?

Hi all,

Some of my colleagues and myself have been working for a while on value
serialization for the new client protocol. I've put up a proposal for how a
client would register types. We would love to get some feedback from the
community on this serialization format. It's not totally fleshed out, so if
there are details you can think of that we might have missed or any other
feedback you can give, I would love to hear it!

I agree, I think we need to do a release. I ran into GEODE-3563 setting up an
SSL-enabled cluster and I’m anxious to get that fix out.

Here’s the full list of fixes:
