Hi,

I think it would be nice to have the event at places like Bruxelles,
Paris, Barcelone, Berlin, London... and to see if we can talk with
others open source foundation to make a common event like JB mention.

Does anyone have any strong opinions or ideas?

The 2024 committee considered the following factors when choosing the
location:

1. Production cost (venue rental + services). 2024 was a reboot (Community
over Code is not positioned) so we are starting with sponsors from
scratch. 2025 is is a slightly better place since the 2024 conference made
the European version of C/C visible to some sponsors and participants.

2. Easy to get to by either train or airport (giving priority to train,
since we expect most attendees to come from EU and only a few from North
America).

3. A city/area where it is easy to walk to nearby restaurants/bars so that
attendees would run into each other after conference hours.

4. A nice city that people would be interested in visiting, and probably
never been to.

So if you have opinions and/or ideas please speak up.

Thanks,

Claude

p.s. We are still looking for a 2025 organizing committee chair. Care to
volunteer?

Do you know of anyone on the ground in any of those cities? It helps to
have a local person in place. Not discounting any suggestions just yet,

London can be a hassle for non citizen EU residents to travel to, since

Those larger cities are very attractive and easy to get to, but they are
also very expensive, both in terms of venues and also attendee expense
(hotels, food). You may want to consider smaller cities such as Lyon,
Krakow, or Dusseldorf, which, spending on the city, may be cheaper.

Timing will be key, too. Doing an event in June, during high season, is
also making things more expensive.

Very much agreed. It has even become complex and very random for non EU
nationals with full eu residency/working permits. With seemingly identical
situations or same person second entry yielding different hurdles. So would
avoid London until the rules settle and are applied predictively.

+1 on Brussel. Easy to reach and not as expensive as Paris or Amsterdam.
Especially when parliament is in session in Straatsburg and the city is empty.
