Martin, I had the same problem under linux. Try to disable the X-keyboard extension with the option "-kb". Example: " Xnest -query localhost -kb :11" . Please tell me, if it works. Whether you are acting as a server or a client you need to have a config file (.conf) in the /etc/openvpn directory (wich is the default location where the openvpn service will look for .conf files and will try to start those connections automatically when the service is started). Check if there is one. In case there is one, you can open a console and try to start the connection manually so you could see if it throws any errors with the following command: # openvpn /etc/openvpn/.conf If there is no .conf file, you need to set one up. Check for examples at the openvpn.net site (http://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source.html). Cheers! Thanks Brian, This has actually nothing to do with ipv6, but with iptables blocking apt outgoing access. I didnt notice this at first because I hadnt set this machine up in the first place and i was able to ping internet addresses as well as the debian mirrors. Thanks for helping out. Cheers! Fred. “Free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech”, not as in “free beer”. Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. Re: Where to add default gateway
Adrian; /etc/init.d/network is how I do it and I believe thats the "normal" place for it at least in Potato and Slink. Not sure about Woody which you should not be running unless you like the bleeding edge and have experience. It looks like this snippet: ##/etc/init.d/network #! /bin/sh ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 route add -net 127.0.0.0 IPADDR=192.168.1.200 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=192.168.1.0 BROADCAST=192.168.1.255 GATEWAY=192.168.1.188 ifconfig eth0 ${IPADDR} netmask ${NETMASK} broadcast ${BROADCAST} route add -net ${NETWORK} ## END /etc/init.d/network Those numbers need to be correct for your setup. The setuo should have asked these questions during install. . Good luck Tom >Where should I add the default gateway ? >If I make a "route add default gw xxx.yyy.zzz.ttt" then the debian will >forget it after reboot. Installation
I just installed a fresh copy of Debian 2.1 on my desktop and I missed something that needs to be installed. How do I go back and get to the dselect menu again? Thank you in advance for your help! The FreeStuff Web Ring http://chebucto.ns.ca/~fsweb [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ppp
Hi! Thanks to the MANY people who took the time to respond to my question about getting Window Maker to work. It's now up and running fine, I think, or as far as I can tell. It's a bit of an odd window manager though because it doesn't have a menu where I can open and start my programs. If it does, I haven't found it yet. I was looking for a way to start up my ppp connection to the internet. Is there a menu somewhere that I'm missing? Thanks!
QT 2.00
Hi, I'm trying to ./configure QT 2.00 but it won't seem to work. This is the error I'm getting: The environment variable $QTDIR is not set correctly. It is currently set to "", but it should be set to this directory, which is "/usr/local/qt". I have all ready edited .profile to add in the correct settings, they were copied and pasted directly from the QT INSTALL file, as directed. Anyone have any suggestions on this? Thanks!
ICQ
I've been trying to install Licq, but it doesn't seem to be working, any suggestion? I keep getting "char" errors during make. It configures just fine. I have gtkicq installed but I don't like that one very much. thanks!
Licq
I tried to install licq from the debian binary cd, but it kept looking for a file that wasn't there. the file was either qt1g or jdk1.1, i forget which because there was another program that i was trying to install that needed the other file. so i downloaded licq from the net and tried to install it that way but it still won't install for me. anyone have any suggestions? thank you :)
Boot Floppy
Hello, A friend of mine is trying to install Debian 2.1 from the 4 CD Set onto a computer that doesn't enable booting from a CD Rom. Can you tell me how to make a boot floppy please? Much appreciated!
X Windows
Hi! A while back I had requested a way to set the default Windows Manager upon boot up. It was exec . I have no idea what else. Can someone please tell me what this is again? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you !
Video Card Compatibility
Hello, I am relatively new to the Debian mailing list, and to the Debian distribution. I have just recently ordered the Debian 2.1 4CD set from CheapBytes.com and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. My own hardware is relatively universally compatible with most Linux distributions, however I have a friend who is also going to install Debian 2.1 who has, in the past with a different distribution, had problems with her video card. Here's the specs on the card: Diamond Stealth 32 PCI. It uses the Tseng Labs W32p high speed graphics aaccelerator chip. It has 2 MB DRAM. Can anyone let me know for sure if this video card will be compatible with Deiban 2.1? I'd really appreciate any input anyone has to offer! Thanks! CD Burner
I have a Sony 928 CD Burner. I'm being told by my computer that it has 384kb of buffer cache, anyone know why it's saying such a weird number? One of my friends has a different burner, but his says he has 512kb buffer cache. The FreeStuff Web Ring [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://chebucto.ns.ca/~fsweb/
Re: My machine compromised?
don't know if its normal, but vmware3 does something that causes chkrootkit to see 1 hidden process for me. wasn't activly using it at the time, so maybe if you have the vm running it causes more hidden processes.
