Problemas con instalación Linux

2003-08-30 Thread Luis

linux unformat

1999-10-14 Thread Luis
HI
Could you tell me if is it possible to recover a NT disk formated with
linux?
I had a 6Gb disk with 3 partitions (2GB for NT, 2 Gb for win95 and 2Gb
free)
and i tried to install the RedHat Linux on the free disk space.
I choose the linux server custom instalation and it formated all the disk
with linux file system. Is it possible to recover those NT and win95 files
on the first 4GB ?

Thanks!

has somebody experience in the harware wiring aspect of this topic?
how must i wire the jumpers in the motherborad so i could have the

IP

1999-12-21 Thread luis
hello

when i connect using ppp and get a dynamic IP as 195.243.107.221 i can
not make a telnet to me from another machine

from another machine (cenected using eth0) i can ping to the machine
using ppp, but when i try to make a telnet to the ppp machine i always
get the following:

trying 195.243.107.221
telnet: unable to conect to remote host: no route to host

my IP always gives me a dynamic IP as 195.243.107.xxx

the gateway is: 195.243.104.1

i can make outbound services: web, ftp, email (out and in), etc

but i need inbound access to that machine with ppp

where is the failure? in my end? with my ISP?

i believe that the IP of the gateway is reserved, and that the IP
given to me are C class, does this have some influence?

is possible to make a telnet to my machine using these IPs ?

thanks a lot

hello

i am not so sure about the impact of the topology in my problem, since
machine a conected by eth0 must conect (and administer) to machine b
conected via ppp0, but both machines will be in diferent continents
(berlin and mexico)

the cables and hubs are so influential ?

cluster

1999-12-25 Thread luis
hello

are there some network (switch and cards) that have low latency times
(perhaps of the order of 20-30 microseconds), but that were not so
expensive ? it is intended for a modest, experimental and no numerous
athlon cluster

i have tried with a 10 mbps hub and 2 k7-550 cluster, but the results seem
very bad, i have latency times of 1100 microseconds with process that
last 110 microseconds in each one of the processors

which networks have been tried? some advice ?

thanks

Re: Athlon problems?

1999-12-27 Thread luis
there are no big problems

apm notebook

hello

i am using a travelmate 5300 (texas instruments) notebook

when in text mode try to enter the display saver, the display blicks
for a moment, and then, instead of clearing the display and blank it,
jost drop the next line

apm: set display ready: Interface not engaged

and this behaviour repeats each time the apm tries to take control of
the display to clear it

in X11 i have not this problem, when the sreen saver enters, it clears
cleanly and blanks the display

is there any kernel patch to overcome this problem ? or more generally:
how could i fix this problem ?

mail ?

1999-12-29 Thread luis
hello

a very humble question

how can i send by mail a file, in only one line ?

i mean, how can send a mail with a file in its body in only one line of the
shell, without entering ?

when i try "mail user ." i can not send the email
also with "mail user Ctrl-D" i can not get again the shell
with which shell sequence i can convince mail or sendmail to send the
message in only one line ?

it is intended for a line in the /etc/ppp/ip-up file, so the machine
could send an email publushing its current ip

thanks a lot for this silly question

Re: bnx2 netboot FW problem

2013-01-25 Thread Luis

I found the solution to the problem:

The problem seems to be the lack of udev binaries and libs, so I packed
them up in the initd.

Here's the step-by-step I used:

mkdir /tmp/kk

cd /tmp/kk

zcat /tftpboot/nbi_img/initrd-pxe.3.2.0-4-amd64.img | cpio -i

cp -a /lib/udev lib

find . | cpio -H newc -o> initrd.cpio

gzip initrd.cpio

cp initrd.cpio.gz /tftpboot/nbi_img/initrd-pxe.3.2.0-4-bnx2_fixed-amd64.img

ln -sf /tftpboot/nbi_img/initrd-pxe.3.2.0-4-bnx2_fixed-amd64.img
/tftpboot/nbi_img/initrd-pxe.img

Cheers!

Kickstart in debian

2003-11-04 Thread luis . gutierrez
How-to Install kickstart (Red Hat) in debian:

Como no siempre disponemos de suficientes maquinas o servidores en los
que instalar "guarrerias" como por ejemplo el programa:
redhat-config-kickstart (el asistente para una instalacion
desatendida de redhat mediante anaconda).
He hecho un "apaño" para poder usar este programa en nuestros pc's con
debian, sin necesidad de tener instalado un RedHat (je je)

1) Search necesary RPM's:

He cogido los RPM necesarios (los he cogido de rpmfind.net) que usa este
programa que son:
redhat-config-kickstart-2.3.3-3.noarch.rpm

3) Installation of the .deb packages
#dpkg -i redhat-config-kickstart_2.3.3-4_all.deb
#dpkg -i rhpl_0.51-2_i386.deb

4) Create necesary links:
usar:
#ln -s /usr/sbin/redhat-config-kickstart /usr/bin/redhat-config-kickstart

5) Install necesary packages:
#apt-get install python2.3-glade2
#apt-get install python2.2-glade2

otro sitio.
cd /usr/share/redhat-config-kickstart
ln -s /usr/lib/python2.2/site-packages/rhpl/ rhpl

siguiente texto:
KEYBOARDTYPE="pc"
KEYTABLE="es"

Y colorin colorado
tengo el redhat-config-kickstart en debian instalado !!

help to make something work

1999-01-19 Thread Luis Cabral
Hello

I started using linux, and I am enthusiasmed.
I installed a Debian distribution in a very standard
PC (Pentium 200, 32 mb, SVGA, 200 Mb on linux partition).
I installed also xfree86 and KDE.

KDE and packaged applications (man etc) work.
But I can´t make anything else work! I downloaded Netscape
4.5, installed it successfully, and when I run
it, it says: Segmentation Fault.
I downloaded Wordperfect 8 and, after many tries, I
installed it successfully; but xwp says: Floating
point fault.
I installed also a CAD called SISCAD-P, and it says
also: Floating point fault.
I tried with other softwares (downloaded from the net)
with similar results.

You see, I wish use linux not for hacking, but as a
stable desktop environment, and I do not wish spend hours
editing config files and chmod-ing etc to make it work.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you
Luis Cabral

Thank you for the responses.

About those:
- this is a experimental instalation, and
although I have little space on disk, I tried
to install one application at time, so there was
always at least 20-30 Mb free.
- in startup, the kernel says:
Intel Pentium with F0 0F bug - workaround enabled
- I tried installing Netscape as a normal user issuing
  the su command...

All these with no results.

The only option until now seems to be rebooting the system.

Re: Newbie X problem

1999-04-12 Thread Luis Villa
You don't actually even need to boot to single-user mode- hitting
ctl-alt-f2 will get you a text-mode login prompt. If you are scarce for
cycles once you've logged in, as root you can run ps to find xdm's
PID and kill it. NOTE: killing your X server is not enough- xdm will
merely bring up another server. Kill XDM first, and then you'll have a
fully functional text-mode box to play with your Xconfig files in.

Are either of you running potato? I'm running potato w/2.0.36, and that
seems to have broken wp8- it calls for libXpm.so.0, which is present, but
which it can't find. If anyone knows a solution to this, I'd be happy to
hear it- it really solved a lot of my office-related problems when I was
running RedHat.

APT setup (was: Re: An idea...)

1999-04-14 Thread Luis Villa
So I looked at the master lists suggested earlier in this thread and tried
to restore the non-US settings that got fubared earlier in my setup. I
couldn't get it to work. Here's what I've tried:

1) using dselect, I choose apt as my access method.

2) After retyping the sites that work (note to anyone listening: there
really should be an "add source" option in apt- having to re-enter
functional sites is dumb, especially since one error means you have to
retype everything) I enter http://http.non-us.debian.org/debian as the URL
for the new site, stable as the distribution, and non-US as the component.
This is the entry that makes sense (since non-US is a directory in
stable, and not the other way around) but is not the entry recommended by
apt, which says "non-US" should be the distribution and main, non-free,
etc. should be the components (which makes no sense.)

3) I select update and get the following errors:
Err http://http.non-us.debian.org stable/non-US Packages
  Could not resolve 'http.non-us.debian.org'
Err http://http.non-us.debian.org stable/non-US Release
  Could not resolve 'http.non-us.debian.org'
I can resolve http://http.non-us.debian.org no problem.

4) Repeat process using order suggested by apt(calling non-US the
distribution instead of the component.) Doesn't seem to make a
difference- same error message.

I'm guessing this occurs because non-us.debian is pretty slow for me, and
maybe apt thinks this is an error. Is that actually the case? If so, can
anyone recommend a non-us mirror that would be faster from North
Carolina? If not, can anyone tell me what other solutions I can try?

Also, what parameters should I be giving apt, besides the URL? Is non-us a
dsitribution or a component? What should the other option be in that case?

Finally, who should I write to explaining my problems with apt? Or have
these already been hashed out and resolved? Where can I look to for
archives of those discussions, if that is the case?

Thanks for putting up with all of my questions- this is easily the
longest (and possibly the dumbest) help request email I've ever sent. :)

My sincerest thanks in advance-
Luis

P.S. In case it matters, I generally run potato, and my dselect version
is 1.4.1.1.
P.P.S. In case you care, I want ssh from non-us, and thus the questions.
Thanks again...

Thanks, Mitch. It works, and I happily have ssh. I'm still curious,
though: why is non-US called a distribution in apt, when it is in fact a
component? Is this historical or what?

Jens-
I am basically doing what you are doing. I use stable instead of
slink, but other than that the same. The trick is that dselect tells me
to do something different, which doesn't work! Dselect "suggests" that you
use non-US as the distribution, instead of stable, slink, or something
else. There is no mention of non-US in the suggested lists of components.

1) The white-paper was commissioned by MS. It's right there in the
paper. That's the most telling fact in the whole paper.

2) http://lwn.net/1999/features/MindCraft.phtml has a list of
critiques of the proposal, including the suggestion that they deliberately
used a kernel (2.2.2) with known networking problems. They also have a
list of links with research you can use to counter theirs, from several
respected and independent news sources.

3) http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=99/04/14/0042212 is /.'s thread on
this- lots of interesting observations and criticisms. Make sure you set
"Highest Scores First"- otherwise you will have to search forever to find
the pertinent ones.

Good luck- I'd strongly suggest sending out at least the lwn.net link to
counter the FUD.

remote login configuration/TERM question

1999-04-24 Thread Luis Villa
Before I go further, I'd just like to note that I'm only subscribed to
the compressed version of the list, so please cc: copies to me, otherwise
I might not get them for a while. Thanks.

Two separate and basically unrelated questions:

1) I am logging in remotely to my machine (using xdm) from my laptop on a
regular basis. For a variety of reasons (speed, resolution, etc.) I prefer
to use enlightenment on my laptop and windowmaker on my desktop. Has
anyone worked out a clean way to a) detect that I am logging in from the
laptop and not the desktop and b) use that information to switch the
preferences? In other words, after logging in, I want my machine to know
where I am and start the appropriate window manager with the appropriate
defaults. Is there a good way to do this? Alternately, if there is no
good way to do this within my normal user, is there a good way to create
another user (say, liv-remote as opposed to liv) and then give liv-remote
full access to liv's files without screwing up liv's ability to access them?

2) Simpler :) Where is the TERM definition for xterm stored, and is it
safe to change it? I'm pretty sick of logging into my school account from
my box and getting the message "Terminal type "xterm-debian", is unknown."
and then having to do a "setenv TERM xterm" in order to run things like
pine. I'd prefer to change it on my home machine rather than write a
script or something in my school account to detect and fix it
automatically- that seems like a hack to me.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help- please remember to CC me-
Thanks-
Luis

windowmaker

What exactly is the difference between the three types of windowmakers in
the unstable tree? (i.e., WM, WM-Debian, WM-Gnome?) I have switched
between the three of them without noticing any susbstantial differences,
and am curious. I'm not running Gnome, so that may contribute, but I did
try it briefly once and noticed no particular differences. Anyone know?
Thanks-

P.S. I'm only subscribed to the digest version, so if you could cc: me

I've just installed Sarge on a laptop. I have been using apt-get in my
desktop for many years without problems, but after checking some comments
about aptitude here in the list, it seemed like a better idea.

I was worried about about the "removing problem", which I had seen
mentioned here also, so I stuck with apt-get with my desktop. But, since
I had fresh installation in the laptop, I thought I would it just start
with it, so that there would be no problems with the databases

But, I guess that the insallation software used apt-get (it was a
net-install), since the first time I tried to use apitutde, right after
the installation, it wanted to remove MANY packages... (Nothing could be
considered "unused" yet, I suppose...) Not knowing enough to decide
whether or not it was really wise to remove them, I again stuck with good
old apt-get.

So, with net-install at least, using aptitude from the start might not
work "out of the box".

Well, I will make a fresh install of Sarge (now from DVDs) in a new HD in
my desktop, so I'll give it another shot.

Best to all,

Luis

P.S.: any comments on what happened in the laptop installation or how
could I have fixed it would be greatly appreciated, although I will check
the man pages (etc.) before my next install.

supposed to do. (I thought the former was for configuring bash while
the latter for initial (on login) set up, like env. variables etc.)

In my case, though, I just linked my .bashrc to my .bash_profile, as I
usually want both login and non-login shells to have the same behaviour

I'll do that (or do what Almut said -- thanks).

Yes it was. Nice to see someone from IME (Brazil) in the list!

Well, you could try the old link trick. First of all locate the biggest

then, move that directory and all of its contents to a bigger

cp -R /big_dir /scratch/

then create a link in / with the old dir name, and pointing to the new
location, e.g.

ln -s /scratch/big_dir /big_dir

Yes, it is a dirty trick, but will save your day until you repartition

That was my first idea when reading the original post. In fact, I was
thinking of doing that in a laptop of a friend. Is there any reason why
this is a "dirty" trick. Is there any problem or disavantage in doing

partitions sizes...

Problemas con dselect

2000-03-21 Thread Luis Zuccolo

Use of uninitilized value at usr/lib/dpkg/methods/apt/setup line 145
 "" "
  " 146
Unknown access scheme in /mnt/.
The available access methods to me are http, ftp, file

graphical console problem

Hi,

in "graphical console mode".

On boot I get:

the screen goes blank and it enters in graphic mode (with the penguin on

I tried "vga=ask" in lilo.conf and all the possibilitied from the list,

Dear Ming and all,

Thanks for the reply, Ming.  I really appreciate your help.

I put "video=sisfb:mode:none" in the append part of lilo.conf and it did work
(back to text mode), but now the computer try to fit more lines than it fits
in the screen, in the sense that there are lines below what the screen is
showing.  For instance, if I type "ls -l", some of the entries (and the
prompt) will be below the visible part of the screen...  Can that be fixed?
(It did not happen before the update changed to graphic...)

Is there a configuration file for this graphic console?

Thanks,

kernel update

2004-05-24 Thread Luis Finotti
Dear all,

It seems that my kernel is a rather old version:
-
% uname -a
Linux debian 2.4.3 #2 Sat Mar 31 11:29:19 CST 2001
i686 unknown
-

It seems that the newer versions are 2.4.16 or later.
I thought "apt-get update/upgrade" would upgrade the
kernel, but it seems that that's not the case. (I
don't have any updates there.)

So, how does one update the kernel. Although my
computer is running fine, I wanted to install the alsa
drivers, and I think I'd need something like
"alsa-modules-2.4.16-386" or "kernel-headers-2.4.16".
(I can't find "kernel-headers-2.4.3".)

Are there any risks in updating the kernel?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Best to all,

Luis

Thanks Juan, Clive and Alistair!

I successfully updated my kernel. I took the most

lilo: "apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.18-386") and
everything seems to working.

(Now the Alsa drivers are another story...) :-)

"/usr/src/linux4.3". I could not find
anything similar anywhere. Was it erased? Do I need

did you try:

which gnome-font-properties

(as non-root) to see if you have other binaries somewhere else?

did you try:

strace gnome-font-properties

to see other debugging (juicy) information?

did you try:

$> ls -l /usr/lib/libmetacity-private.so.0

00:45 /usr/lib/libmetacity-private.so.0 -> libmetacity-private.so.0.0.0

-rw-r--r--1 root root 149K 2004-05-15
19:22 /usr/lib/libmetacity-private.so.0.0.0

to make sure that those libraries are actually there?

did you try:

$> ldd /usr/bin/gnome-font-properties | grep metacity
libmetacity-private.so.0 => /usr/lib/libmetacity-private.so.0
(0x4002f000)

to see if the library is pointing to where it should, and it's found?

Last but not least, make sure that you check:

$>cat /etc/ld.so.conf
/lib
/usr/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/i486-linuxlibc1/lib

/usr/local/lib

I ran out of possible things to try. I hope that helps.

recompiling the kernel with APM support

2004-05-26 Thread Luis Finotti
Dear all,

I recently upgraded my kernel from 2.4.3 to 2.4.18-k7
(I'm running a 1.2GHz Athlon) and now my computer
won't turn off the power with "shutdown -h". (I did
the "apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.18-k7" way.)
The old kernel did turn off the power.

After I little research, it seems that I need to
recompile the kernel with APM support. (I tried
adding "append="apm=on"" to lilo.conf, but it did not
work.)

Can any one tell me how do I do that, or give me some
reference?

I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Best to all,

Luis

Great, Roberto! That just did the trick! Thanks.

Also, thanks to Keeling and Greg.

Keeling:
I did not quite follow your suggestion, though. It
seems that I can't/shouldn't change the
kernel-image-2.4.18-k7 manually, and even if I could
do it, I would not know exactly how to change it...

Anyway, it works now. I really appreciate your help.

Best to all,

Luis

Help fixing 'Sarge' Install

2004-06-03 Thread Luis Rojas
Hi all,
i posted early as a reply to a thread i thought was related to my
issues, i am making a new post to make things easier to respond and
explain better what is going on with my system.

The main issue i am experiencing is general unresponsiveness on part of
kde ( when i am using the console without logging to X first, i have no
trouble that i can notice ). The kind of unresponsiveness i am talking
abut is Jumpy pointer, screen redraws taking a long time, system seems
to freeze temporarily, buttons in the gui dont recognize clicking on
them, aplications launching twice after even a single click, etc.

i put into a file the information i thought could be usefull for
determining what is going on with my system. It can be found at
http://lhabia.com/lrrm/ts-report.txt

I would apreciate it, if any body could take a look at the file and give
me a hand trying to figure out how to fix my Box.

Thanks in advance,
Luis

I'm courteous enough to manually edit the headers. You can do the same.
well, kMail has a nice feature that lets you set a folder up as a

As far as i know, this means the kernel was not compiled with support for highmem.
Since there seems to be two schools of thought regarding this issue, maybe
somebody will try to put the record straight. The two advices i have gotten
are one, to leave it like that, the increase in ram is not worth the performance hit.
two, to recompile, this will increase performance for pagin and such.

dual-boot after crash

2004-03-20 Thread Luis Finotti
Hi,

I recently had some problems with my computer and had
to reinstall Windows XP. After I done that, I don't
get the LILO screen with boot options anymore. It
starts XP automatically. I checked and the Windows XP
C: drive is the size of the original partition, so I
think my Linux partition is still there.

So, I would like to set the computer for dual-boot
again. But at this point I don't have access to the
Linux partition. I just made a bootable floppy from:

http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/index.html

So, I guess that that will allow me to "see" the linux
partition.

I am not sure if after the crash my linux partition is
OK. So I wanted to check its integrity. (cfsck?)
How would I do that?

Finally how would I make Lilo give me the dual-boot
option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best to all,

Luis

Sorry about the last message sent incorrectly...

As I was saying, I still have some problems. X
(running gnome) froze. For a while the virtual
consoles were working, but then I started getting
error messages and they froze too. I posted the error
messages (from var/log/) at

http://www.math.ucsb.edu/~finotti/mesg/

if anyone would be willing to take a look and help me
with that.

BTW, it seems to be working now, but am not sure for
how long...

And again, thanks for yoyorelp and sorry about the
previous message.

Best to all,

bluetooth audio

2021-11-04 Thread Luis Mochan
After a recent update/upgrade in debian/bookworm my bluetooth
earphones and my bluetooth earphones stopped working.
I found a solution in the discussion of at

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=997862&archived=no&mbox=no&mboxmaint=no

related to bug #997862 which seemed to work for me, that is,
installing a package libspa-0.2-bluetooth.

I'm not sure what is happening, but I guess it should have been
installed automatically if it was required not to break my system (and I
guess others).

I would like to file a bug report, but I'm not sure the origin is in
the wireplumber package (I don't know why it got installed in my
system).

I will appreciate any advice.

Regards,
Luis

Fwd: ajuda

2021-02-27 Thread Luis Inocêncio
Boa Noite.
Linux :(
Agradeço antecipadamente a vossa atenção e ajuda

Good evening. First of all thank you for your attention. I leave below in
more detail the problems I have, now that it seems that I already managed
to install (this after trying to be successful with other Distros) for the
first time Debian: 1- Having an Nvidia graphics card (I think that's why) I
can never get directly through Grub, without first switching to the linux
related to Grub 'quiet' by 'nomodeset'. The first question is this, how to
definitively configure this to not have to be constantly changing in Grub?
Or will it be that when you get the (specific) Nvidia drives this is
resolved? 2- When trying to enter as a rooter (in the terminal) using sudo
-s, despite correctly entering the password, I am always informed that the
password is not correct and I never have access as a rooter. I have already
changed the password and the problem persists :( ... That despite being
able to access synaptic package manager using in this case exactly the same
password that is not accepted in the terminal. Is this normal? How to solve
this? 3- Anyway, I need to be able to log in as a rooter otherwise I will
not be able to do anything like Debian and it will be even 100% frustrating
my experience with Linux :( Thank you in advance for your attention and help

Cannot Install/Uninstall sendmail

2018-08-27 Thread Luis Finotti
Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble installing/removing sendmail in Debian Sid (well,
aptosid -- http://www.aptosid.com -- actually).

I tried to install and it failed: https://pastebin.com/Qu2jRqsn

'apt -f install' did not fix it, nor did 'dpkg --configure -a'.

Since it was not essential (and did not install correctly), I tried to
uninstall it, but it also fails:

-
# apt remove procmail sendmail sendmail-base sendmail-bin sendmail-cf

One notices in the failed install attempt (the pastebin link above):

--

I had:
--
# ls -ld /var/lib/sendmail
drwx-- 2 smmta smmta 4096 Aug 22 15:06 /var/lib/sendmail/

Changing ownership to root did not allow me to uninstall it.

Aptosid itself does not come with a mail daemon installed, so I must have
installed at some point some daemon that created the /var/lib/sendmail.
(If I were to try to install again, I'd probably opt for a lighter
alternative, something like ssmtp. So, right now, I just want to remove
sendmail.) So, I have sendmail-base stuck as not fully installed.

It was recommended I install 'openbsd-inetd' (it was not installed, neither
was xinetd), but it still fails to install: https://pastebin.com/sStYqMYi
(I also still cannot uninstall it...)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here it is:

# dpkg -P sendmail-base
(Reading database ... 1562548 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing sendmail-base (8.15.2-11) ...
update-inetd: error: --group is only relevant with --add
dpkg: error processing package sendmail-base (--purge):
installed sendmail-base package pre-removal script subprocess returned
error exit status 255
Errors were encountered while processing:
 sendmail-base

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the pointer! sendmail-base.prerm had the line:

update-inetd --group MAIL --disable smtp,smtps,submission;

and I was getting the error

update-inetd: error: --group is only relevant with --add

So, I changed it to:

update-inetd --disable smtp,smtps,submission;

and was then able to uninstall it.

Thanks again for your help.

Disabling Print Screen key

2007-07-31 Thread Luis Finotti
Hi,

My Print Screen key is too close to BackSpace, so I keep pressing it
by accident. I use KDE, and this makes "KSnapshoyt" pop up. (In
fluxbox, it sends the content of the terminal to the printer.)

I checked the key assignments of KDE, and I found no shortcut for the
PrtSc key, and even defining a different application for that key
would still make (only) KSnapshot pop up. (KSnapshot was assigned to
Crtl+PrtSc, and I disabled it too, just in case.)

My Google searchs did not help (even on this list).

So, I decided to disable the key.

Using "xev", I saw that the keycode was 111:

KeyRelease event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x361,
root 0x91, subw 0x0, time 482199882, (485,527), root:(489,552),
state 0x0, keycode 111 (keysym 0xff61, Print), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:

Indeed, "xmodmap -pk" gave:

...
111 0xff61 (Print) 0xff15 (Sys_Req)
...

So, I did "xmodmap -e "keysym Print = BackSpace"". Now, "xev" gives:

KeyRelease event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x341,
root 0x91, subw 0x0, time 482660638, (-260,401), root:(838,426),
state 0x0, keycode 111 (keysym 0xff08, BackSpace), same_screen YES,
XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 22
XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (08) "

and "xmodmap -pk" gives:

...
111 0xff08 (BackSpace)
...

But still, KSnapshot pops up, and the backspace has no effect.

Any suggestions or ideas (other than remove the key physically)??

Thanks,

Luis

No, I haven't... As I stated in the beginning, I checked it to make sure.

Now, I am at work using Fedora Core 5, and again the PrtSc key is NOT
set in KDE, but pressing starts KSnapshot (which I find quite funny).
On the other hand, here I can make it work as BackSpace with "xmodmap
-e "keysym Print = BackSpace"" (which did not work with Debian). So,
I assume it is a Debian-related problem...

By the way, I am using Etch, with the Debian kernel 2.6.18-k7.

Thanks!

Luis
