keyboard problems

2001-03-24 Thread cletus . yokel
I have a weird problem with my keyboard, but I'm not sure what to check
to figure out the problem.

I have a desktop system, and the keyboard works as expected in X and in
the console. However when I ssh into my gateway box, the keyboards works
fine in the commandline, but when I run a command like say nslookup, my
backspace key stops working.

Both systems are debian 2.2 stable. The keypad problem also occurs when
I ssh to my boxes at home (telnet does the same BTW) from my sunbox at work.

I don't know much about terminal emulation, keymaps, and bindings, etc so
what can I read to try to troubleshoot this? I have a typical i386 style
keyboard with microsoft keys at home, and a type 5c sun keyboard at work.

Thanks.

This is not a debian question, but it's so generic I'm not sure where else
to ask it.

How do you free a process from your login? I want to start a commandline
program, then logoff and have the program continue to execute. Currently
I'm using at as a work around, but it seems like you should be able to
interactively "spin" the process off on its own. Thanks.

Navigator + Sparc and Mozilla + 8bit displays

Anybody know of a good skin for mozilla that displays decent on an 8bit
display? The logo and buttons suck up so many colors, the rest of the app
is unusable, I mean just the app itself, excluding the webpages, which are
rendered in what looks like 2 or 3 colors. With netscape you could turn
the buttons off, and just use text labels which saves colors.

Also, is navigator not available in stable for sparc or is my mirror just
hosed?

I did, but all the themes there use large numbers of colors. The few I thought
might work, suck the colors so in-appropriately that most of the app can
only be renedered in two or three colors, you can hardly even tell where
buttons, scrollbars, etc begin and end. I think I might enter this as a
bug for mozilla, as I have a lot of machines with 8bit displays (ultra10s,
450's) and mozilla cannot be used on these machines because of it.

Man, I'm really starting to live up to the name I picked for this hushmail
account. I don't know how I got convinced of it, but I thought for sure
something launched with an & got killed when you logoff, but I decided to
test it

Re: Netscape?

2001-04-01 Thread cletus . yokel

Damn, went ftp.netscape.com, and it looks like they dont compile one for
linux on sparc. Shit I had no idea, I personally, I have a couple of sparc
classics and an IPX, none of which I ever bothered trying to install netscape
on because they're so slow. At work I was going to convert a dozen sparc
ultra10's to debian, but without a netscape I can't do it because they're
used to access different web-based control systems, all standardized on
netscape 4.x. I can't even try to use mozilla instead because mozilla does
not have any low color skins. These ultra10's came with 8bit graphics, and
mozilla on 8bits is crap because the icons suck all the colors.

has anybody here made a skin for mozilla? If so how hard is it? Sometime
I'll look into making one, but I'm crap at graphics.
