Help with Knews and EX/VI Terminal
Hello all, I'm running 2.1 and KNews in ICEWM When I go to post a new article or post a follow-up I get: Ex/VI: Vi's stand input and output must be a terminal. How do I set knews to use VI as a terminal? TIA, -=Ray --- <=- Fortune of the Day -=> There is no security on this earth. There is only opportunity. -- General Douglas MacArthur
RE: Help with Knews and EX/VI Terminal
Never Mind, I found the answer on www.deja.com You have to edit the Knews file in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/appdefaults thanks anyway, On 01-Jul-99 Ray Schultz wrote: > Hello all, > > I'm running 2.1 and KNews in ICEWM > > When I go to post a new article or post a follow-up I get: > > Ex/VI: Vi's stand input and output must be a terminal. > > How do I set knews to use VI as a terminal? >
Help Needed with install "Choose Debian archive path"
I'm trying to install Debian Slink. I get to the part of the install program where it says: Debian GNU/Linux Installation Main Menu Next: Install Operating System Kernel and Modules After I choose the Next option I get: Please select the medium you will use to install the system: I choose the cdrom :CD-ROM drive Then I choose SCSI for my type of cd-rom. I then get a display that says: Please place the Debian CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive: I do that and hit enter. Ok, finally, here is the problem. The display says: Please choose the path inside the CD-ROM where the Debian archive resides. My question is: if the path is /dists/slink/main/binary-a/ do I use the first '"/" ? do I use the last "/" ? Do I need to include the "Package" file inside "binary-a" ? By the way, none of the above works. Any help would be appreciated. How do I tell Debian database about a program?
Hello all, How do I tell Debian database about a program? A friend and myself are setting up a Debian server for our LUG. It is based on 2.1. Except my friend wanted to custom compile Apache to do some automatic module loading. My question is what command do I use to let the Debian Database know that Apache has been installed but not with a deb package? Am I correct to be concerned about this? My system needs to know that a program like Apache has been installed in order to keep the libraries updated when it comes time to upgrade to Potato? Right? Later, Ray

May I suggest for your consideration that you investigate the program "netdate." Netdate comes in the debian package "netstd." Netdate will sync your computer clock with that of a Network Time Protocol server (NTP). An example is "time.uh.edu" So, after you "apt-get install netstd" as root. You can "netdate time.uh.edu" and your time is set to the time of the time server. By the way time.uh.edu is in the Central time zone at The University of Houston. You might want to use one in your time zone. You can even set netdate to run when your dial-up connection is started or on a cron job for you guys with a network. Threading list subjects?
Hello All, I am new to the list. I have been on for only few days and already have 75 messages from the list. Great content!! I find it difficult to follow the subject threads without them being grouped together like a newsreader. I am reading all these messages with Eudora 3.05 on a Win95 machine and I don't think Eudora has a way to thread the subjects. How are all you guys handling the subject threading deal? -- Ray Schultz, [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.coe.uh.edu/~rschultz/ "Some people are educated beyond their intelligence." -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
