diald on debian?

2002-10-15 Thread Kurt Yoder

Hey list

I recently tried to set up diald, but can't get the automatic internet
connection to work. I've definitely got a working internet connection if I
start it manually using pon. I have diald installed, and all the configs
look OK to my inexperienced eye. What else should I look at to get diald
working correctly so that I don't have to manually bring up my internet
connection?

TIA

You want the config that came with the stock Debian kernel that's currently
running on your machine?

If so, copy /boot/config- to
/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18/.config.

Pretty sure it should "just work" if you open an mp3 in xmms

hmm... I know of nautilus for gtk/gnome, konqueror for qt/kde if you
don't want all the extra libraries... mc?? (midnight commander)

Not sure this is possible... I hear there's something in xfree 4.3 which
will allow this, but 4.2 is *just now* making it into unstable, so I have no
idea when we'll see 4.3

You *could* do it all off the internet with *no* cd's. If you already have
Debian installed, as root run apt-setup, remove your cd source and add http
source. As root, run apt-get update, then apt-get dist-upgrade; done (this
is one of the main reasons I love Debian).

Umm... http://linuxnewbies.org comes to mind.

Squirrelmail works well for me. It's PHP based and only in Woody right now
though.

I tried installing the openoffice .debs directly from
http://people.debian.org/~nidd/debian, but had no luck, so I tried your
source instead and got:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] nobak]$ sudo apt-get install openoffice
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Package openoffice has no available version, but exists in the database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and
never uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents
of sources.list
E: Package openoffice has no installation candidate

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

The column with the "+" shows attachments, replies, and priority. A "+"
means "attachment is here", a "!" means "high priority", a "A" means
"replied to this message".

Remove xdm, gdm or kdm. If any of these are installed, they will dump you
into X unless you're in single-user mode.

apt-get remove gdm

(or kdm or xdm if you have either of those instead)

Re: The quest for rodent power

2002-03-04 Thread Kurt Yoder
I've never been able to get gpm working successfully, so I gave up on it.

That said, do you get any output if you do an "/etc/init.d/gpm start"? I
think there's also some messages it will write in /var/log. Check
/var/log/messages, look for a /var/log/gpm, etc.

Dunno where the gpm config stuff is kept, though it would seem strange to me
if it were tied in with the regular X stuff, since one can theoretically run
gpm without X installed at all. Maybe there's something in /etc for gpm
configs...

sendmail setup with two distinct queues?

2002-06-13 Thread Kurt Yoder
Hello list

I'm attempting to set up sendmail with two separate queues, one for incoming
and one for outgoing mail (this is for the mailscanner package). I've tried
setting it up via /etc/mail/sendmail.conf with the following config:

DAEMON_MODE="Daemon";
DAEMON_PARMS="-bd -ODeliveryMode=queueonly
-OQueueDirectory=/var/spool/mqueue.in";
DAEMON_HOSTSTATS="Yes";
DAEMON_MAILSTATS="No";
QUEUE_MODE="daemon";
QUEUE_INTERVAL="10";
QUEUE_PARMS="";
MSP_MODE="none";
MSP_INTERVAL="${QUEUE_INTERVAL}";
MSP_PARMS="${QUEUE_PARMS}";
MSP_MAILSTATS="No";
MISC_PARMS="";
CRON_MAILTO="root";
CRON_PARMS="";
AGE_DATA="";
DAEMON_STATS="${DAEMON_MAILSTATS}";
MSP_STATS="${MSP_MAILSTATS}";

I run "sendmailconfig", then restart sendmail. I email a test message to
this machine. I see it delivered to /var/spool/mqueue.in via the mail log. I
also see the d and q files sitting in /var/spool/mqueue.in. At this point if
I had mailscanner running, the mailscanner program would pick up the mail in
mqueue.in, examine it and pass it to the outgoing mail daemon for delivery.
Since mailscanner is *not* running, the mail should stay in
/var/spool/mqueue.in indefinitely.

However, after it sits there for several minutes sendmail picks it up and
sends it on. I assume this is the queuer fishing for mails, but why is it
looking in /var/spool/mqueue.in for outbound mail? How can I tell it to only
look in /var/spool/mqueue for outbound mail via this configuration file? I'm
currently trying it with

QUEUE_PARMS="-OQueueDirectory=/var/spool/mqueue";

is this correct? If not, what is correct?

Thanks
