HELP: Debian from CheapBytes
I am having lots of problems using DSELECT to install the basic utilities off the CDs. I have 3CDs: BINARY, EXTRAS1, EXTRAS2, SOURCE. I have just successfully installed the bases system, and now I want to install the REQUIRED utilities. I also need to install G++. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any help would be much appreciated? Thanks, Denis dePierro
HELP: Problems Installing Cheap*Bytes CD
I am attempting to install Debian onto a 600mb hard drive, which is the third drive on my system. I am running Windows 98 on drive C: A:\ floppy C:\ hard drive D:\ secondary E:\ cd F:\ tertiary I boot the pc into DOS mode to run the install.bat file off the CD. It allows me to partition the hard drive. However, when I get to the point to install the system I get the following error: /floppy/type.txt: Invalid Arguement I am booting the PC with a minimum autoexec and config. Just enough to allow the CD device driver to install. I am not installing an upgrade. This is a new install of Debian 2.0 onto its own hard drive. I plan to use a boot menu, if I ever get this installed. Please help, Thanks, Denis dePierro
HELP: Problems with G++
I am having difficulties getting g++ to compile properly. I am just testing it with a simple "hello" program. When I type ... g++ -g -Wall -ohello hello.cc The file - hello - is created. When I type, hello to execute the program. The bash shell tells me there is no such command. What am I doing wrong? I need to get this working for my class on Monday. Thanks, Denis
Re: Xisp and mutiple ISPs
There is a neat utility called pppconfig, which allows for multiple ISP configs. Just use: pon to start it. Denis -Original Message- From: Gary L. Configuring EMACS to Work with C++
Is this possible? I have g++ installed. I am using Debian 2.0. I have both EMACS and XEMACS installed. Denis
Re: CheapBytes and package installation
Point DSELECT to your CD rom first. Once you've mounted the CD, type: /debian/main This will reference the root. For the remaining questions, respond NONE. This worked for me. Re: Configuring EMACS to Work with C++
I would like to be able to compile code within EMACS. It is my understanding that this can be done with C, Fortran, or LISP. If not, what utilities should I use in conjunction with g++ to make debugging easier than using COUT statement for each variable. Thank you for your response, Denis -Original Message- From: Ole J. Getting Win9x to Recognize Linux as a Network Drive
Is it possible to configure Win9x to recognize a Linux (partition or physical drive) as a network drive? Has any one done this successfully? Denis
PON As Normal User
If there anyway to have a normal user access PON? If not, is there a way to enable dial up access to an ISP for a normal user using some other utility? Thanks, Denis
Getting ELM to Work
How do I configure elm to connect to my local provider? I have been reading and re-reading the LINUX Walnut Creek book and getting nowhere. Thanks, Denis
HELP: Problems Configuring Email
I am reading this massive Walnut Creek Linux book backwards and forwards. I followed the ISP FAQ to the letter. I got to the point where I can now send e-mail. However, my address shows up as Super-User, rather than my actual address. If I was harassing people, this would be great. The other probelm I am having is that I cannot recieve mail. I am using ELM and I have SMAIL and SENDMAIL installed. I installed FETCHMAIL, but I cannot find any info on how to configure it. Please help us Obi Wan, you're our only hope. Denis
HELP: More Problems Configuring Email
Okay ... I have uninstalled SENDMAIL and reinstall SMAIL. I can send e-mail, however I cannot recieve e-mail. When I send it, the Return-Path line on the e-mail reads . In my SMAIL config file, I have changed the visible name to my full e-mail address: [EMAIL PROTECTED], and change the hostdomain to miracle.net. I have also added a line [EMAIL PROTECTED] I don't know what else to do. Thanks, Denis
HELP: Even More Problems Configuring Email
I have figured out a cheap way to use PPP a regular user login as root, connect, log back out, log in as a regular user... But, now I want to be able to receive e-mail. I have installed SMAIL. I believe I have all the config options set correctly. I can send e-mail, but I cannot recieve it. The one file I know to look at is my SMAIL config. What other files are involved in this process and need to be configured? (I have tried looking on the Debian site, but found nothing that was of any help. I have also been scouring this book book on LINUX from Walnut Creek.) Thank for all your help, Denis
Re: is this possible with emacs?
Yes. Emacs recognizes C++ by the file extension ... cc, cpp, etc. The program also has functions, such as ESC a, ESC e, to browse to the beginning and end of statments and to browse between errors. Installing to a Harddrive other than C:
I have been reading your installation information and I cannot find anything that tells me how to install Debian to an E:\ drive for example and use a DOS bootup menu to access it. How should I go about setting this up? The installation guide recommends installing on C:, but I REALLY don't want to do that. Thanks, Denis dePierro PS: Also, is there a Debian G++ or GCC package? -- Unsubscribe? mail -s unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] < /dev/null
