Bug#803450: libkipi-dev lacks KF5KipiConfig.cmake

2015-10-30 Thread valette
Package: libkipi-dev
Version: 4:15.04.2-1
Severity: normal

I wanted tobuild amarok 5.0.0-b1 but the system libkipi lacks
KF5KipiConfig.cmake as shown by build trace below.

In addition, I was a bit puzzled finding that original debian source
package did not have it when upstream git code (even the tagged release with
same version )has it and seems somehow diffrent that the source package code
used by debian.

I could cherry pick the needed code to add it but would like to know
how best do it:

See :

https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=libkipi.git&a=blob&h=a442de7b5beb31442e222cbaa15da2ec73f8bea3&hb=b8ab893ea8993dc0f56232d6db03130da99c1a18&f=cmake%2Ftemplates%2FKF5KipiConfig.cmake.in

Bug#507238: kaddressbook: please bump build depend for gnokii to libgnokii4 instead of libgnokii3

Package: kaddressbook

due to depend, kaddressbook is currently not instalable. I add to recompile
kdepim myself using libgnokii4 and libgnokii4-dev becaue they in turn depend
on gnokii-common.

Or transfer the bug to libgnokii4 to depend on gnokii4-common instead

Many kde 5.2 packages have been sitting on the new queue for 3 months now.

2015-06-21 Thread Eric Valette
I know the priority was to have jessie out. This is now done, even a
first update has been done.
Currently what is in experimental is nearly not usable (systemsettings
is almost empty (nework, display but segfault immediately, printers),
konsole has big display bug making it hard to use, ..). I bet this is
mainly due to package still on the new queue but still...

Any plan to cure the actual status?

I'm not even talking about unstable, even in experimental. Qt 5.4.2 is
already there so your argument doesn't hold. I'm talking about packages
stuck in the new queue and that has nothing to do with experimental or
unstable.

So we need a gcc fix to push to to be able to start pushing kf5.

For unstable maybe. But if it was already testable via experimental this
would be great!

Personally, I don't plan to put any time into Plasma 5 until after Kf5 is in
Unstable (which means Qt 5.4.2 in Unstable).

So I hope you will start working on it now :-)

Bug#910879: print-manager: Prevent to start a kde session for all users

2018-10-12 Thread Eric Valette
Package: print-manager
Version: 4:18.04.1-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Yesterday my daughther came with her laptop and said it was no more possible to
log in.
After entering the password, plasmashell was starting, then a strange message
from okular
and then a black screen with only the mouse pointer. Plasmashell did carsh.

At fisrt I suspecter the .config or .kde config file to be corrupted, moved
them with
no result and then tried my own account with same behavior.

So I installed another windown manager and started plasmashell manually to
discover
that print-manager was crashing with SIGSEGV in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkcupslib.so that in turn makde plasmashell stop.

Removed print-manager and was able to log again on plasma. Didi some savalge
of leftover /var/spool/cups/* old directory and also a file there, reinstalled
print-manager, printer and it continued to work.

Anyway a SIGSEGV in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkcupslib.so is abnormal,
the fact that it can prvent to start a session also.

Bug#907384: plasma-discover: needrestart breaks Plasma-discover upgrade mechanism

For security reasons, many sceurity tools including lynis recommend

On the copmmand line, you are prompted to select or acknowledfge
services that should be restarted. So you need to enter some
keyboard input for at-get (dist-)upgrade to finish.

Plasma disco\xe7ver does not cope with this.

On PackageKit frontends, all transactions should be noninteractive, so
they shouldn't interrupt the process to ask for stuff.
One exception that we allow for compatibility is Debconf questions.
So, if needrestart uses Debconf, this is a bug in plasma-discover and
Discover should implement the Debconf frontend properly. If however
needrestart doesn't use Debconf, this issue is "won't fix".
From a quick look at the code, the former appears to be the case.

Visually it looks like debconf questions with selectable list and grey
and blue layout. But I did not look at the code.
BTW : the fcat that by default it select packages as dist-upgrade would
is also problematic. Can this be configured?

Bug#886322: libkf5kdelibs4support-dev: Should libkf5kdelibs4support-dev still depend on libssl1.0-dev

Hi,

this is a duplicate of bug #850888, since the dependency in the -dev
package depends on which libssl was used for the build. When
kdelibs4support is ported to libssl1.1, then the dependency in the -dev
package will be updated.
But if the kdelibs4supportpackage was build using libsll1.0-dev, then
some  kdelibs4support generated packages should depend on libsll1.0.0
which is not the case.

kdelibs4support is built against libssl1.0. There are few publich
headers of it that include libssl headers, so that warrants the
dependency in the -dev package -- but they are not used a lot, so it
will not cause a dependency on that on the majority (if not all) of
packages that build using kdelibs4support (also almost all the
kde-related packages are built using --as-needed).

So, what you said is not true, and partially does not make any sense.

Sorry to be stupid but:

If I understand, the include exported libkf5kdelibs4support-dev by
require the sll headers because some of them are included but are not
used by the packages itself. Right?

But then other packages build using kdelibs4supportpackage-dev should
then depend on libsll1.0.0 if they really use the headers requiring ssl
includes and sll API and not only macros which is not the case as shown
via apt-rdepends in original report.

So I still wonder if this should be libsll1.0-dev or libssl-dev. And in
any case this should be reworked for the ssl 1.1 transition as mentioned
already. Nevermind

Bug#886322: libkf5kdelibs4support-dev: Should libkf5kdelibs4support-dev still depend on libssl1.0-dev

Firrst thanks for taking time to respond to my questions...

No, there are parts of kdelibs4support that use OpenSSL, but because of
its obnoxious license then it is not common for code using OpenSSL to
link directly to it.

It do not follow the idea behind link vs package dependency (except due
to automatic dependency creating tools). Maybe via dlopen then but this
should have a dependency nevertheless or the dlopen will fail and if
package expects it... So If this is the case some dependencies are
missing because removing libkf5kdelibs4support-dev enable to remove
libsll1.0-dev and then dependency on libsll1.0.2 should be explicit...

There is no such "libssl1.0.0" in Debian, so you indeed get almost no
packages depending on it. The library for libssl1.0-dev is
libssl1.0.2, and you can verify there are still many packages depending
on it.

OK I goofed because I still have an old one on my system (or it comes
via oracle virtualbox) and should have done the rdepend on libssl1.0.2:

Closing as requested.

Please note that deb-multimedia is *not* supported, and using it means
you can get different problems (like this bug, for example).

It turns out that the crash is due to experimental libc6... Nothing to
do with vlc, debian-multimedia itself...

Bug#799377: Apparently it is a config file migration problem

2015-09-24 Thread Eric Valette
I had other things that were wrong in my desktop behavior (mounting USB
key , mounting it did stop launching dolphin, clock applet in the panel
tray sometimes stopped at a given time, ..., so I decided to take the
risk of removing (moving) the .config directory and the .kde directory
and relogged.

This Problem disappeared as well as a few others. So this probably is a
"config files" migration problem. While people installing new system may
be unaffected, people migrating may be.

I upgraded my kernel to latest long term stable release (4.1.12). No
change (connect when I click on it and immediately disconnect). Removed
the headset from the known device list (never needed to do this before)
and tried discovery again. It worked.

So, if I have not to do this every time in boot this would be almost fine.

It would get a working Digikam back, which I think is a great idea.

Having digikam 5 also brings digikam back and his a

I'm quite surprised because digikam expects 15.08.2 which is the package

Bug#948207: kio-gdrive: No more work because google temoprarilly supressed the access

2020-01-05 Thread Eric Valette
Package: kio-gdrive
Version: 1.2.7-1+b2
Severity: grave
Tags: upstream
Justification: renders package unusable

I received this moring an email form google I had non trusted application using
my
google information. It was KDE access and indeed it asked for a handfull of
authorizations
when ony access to gdrive was requested (mail, calendar, hangout, music, ).

I removed the authorisation and as I suspected kio-gdrive stopped working. So I
tried to add it back and failed because google "temporarilly" removed access
authorisation for KDE
access.

So if you have a working installation do not disable and any new installation

Bug#951421: umbrello: Umbrello fails to open xmi file with file not found

2020-02-16 Thread Eric Valette
Package: umbrello
Version: 4:17.08.3-1
Severity: important

I had numerous old file .xmi I used included as jpeg in documents. I needed to
change
the drawing and launched umbrello. On every file, I got a message saying file
not
found while the file was perfectly accessible and I could edit it with any
editor.

I first downloaded a recent windows binary installer as I have a dualboot system
and the file was happily opened. Drawing had to be a bit modified but
nothing really painfull.

I then decided to recompile umbrello 19.12.2 myslef and it did work
just had to import a macrod form kdelib5-dev

/usr/share/kde4/apps/cmake/modules/MacroOptionalAddSubdirectory.cmake

Then I copied the debian directory from 4:17.08.3-1 and build the package after
changing the chnagelog file and voil\xe0.

Could you please consider providing a more recent version?

Bug#308603: kdebase: [KDE 3.4] disk led keep blicking since 3.4 installation

2005-05-11 Thread Eric Valette
Package: kdebase
Version: 4:3.4.0-0pre3
Severity: important
Tags: experimental

Since installation of kde 3.4, my disk led keeps blickink and this is
specifically tied to kde (switching to other windows manager in kdm
the problem disappears).

I have checked that it actually does not write anything to disk as "df"
and especially log or tmp does not grow. So it is a read access. The
problem is severe because on latop it prevents to use the dsik
powermanagement feature.

using lsof, I did not clearly found a possible culprit.

I have now installed the "deb http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0/ ./"
on several very différent machines and it occurs on all machines.

problem in your network?

Well. I'm currently on vacation testing on my laptop (instead of desktop
at home where it first started to fail) and have two differents clients
(mobile and tablet) and nothing works on either devices.

It can be on the client side (android both and 1.8.2 android version
both) but I have two differents. It could be network but no firewall and
both machines do see each other using ssh, upnp, ...

Tried to debug with kdeconnect_cli but have no meaningfull printing. I'm
using IPV4 only network.

Nevertheless thanks for checking and passing the info.

Thanks for the hint. I started KDE connect explicitly, no help. I even added

With me it also fails from time to time and I have not found a pattern which
would explain it.
What very often helps, is starting kdeconnect explicitly on my phone and
that
either fixes it or gives me a clue why it fails, which often means
re-pairing
the devices.

Thanks for the hint. I started KDE connect explicitly, no help. I even
added pc device by Name or ip without result. I'm good for a Wireshark

Well, I did a quick wireshark session, using my pĥone source ip address
as a filter crietria on the PC running wireshark and I do see both
devices (tel and PC) talking to each other, sending IPV4 payload message
containing things like strings containing kdeconnect, PC name, tel name,
various devices properties, but in the end they do not connect to each
other. So this is not a simple "network problem".

I can send pcap traces if anyone speaks kde connect fluently ;-)

Bug#898320: Some progress

2018-05-24 Thread Eric Valette

I became beta tester on android side and got 1.9 but no chnage. Said to
work with oreo.

Compiled upstream git using debian build directory from official 1.3.0 :
no change.

But I noticed someting :
1) Linux PC do see Linux PC on the network (wired/wireless no matter),
	2) android devices do see other android devices (Wifi 2.4 <-> WiFI 2.5
so goes though the router)

I suspect there is a protocol wire definition structure problem between
Linux (amd64 bit for me) and android (32 bits apps for me) so that they
do not understand packed exchanged.

Bug#898320: Tested 1.3.1 : no change. Linux and android world refuse to communicate

Again linux <->linux OK. Android <-> Android OK . Linux <-> Android KO.

See upstream bug 394646 where someone has the same behavior. Contacted
devled list. No help.

Should be easy for soemeone who know the protocol to debug but with
qtnetwork, it is even hard to see what goes on the wire, and what is
cyphered, signed or not if you are not a qt dev.

Transition to unstable started while experimental has never been installable (at lesat for me)

2017-08-16 Thread Eric Valette

Hi,

Just a few words to say that I saw this morning the transition to qt
5.9+ started in unstable. Usually, it was tested in experimental before
migrating to unstable and indeed has been there for a while.

For experimental for more than a month, apt-get -t experimental
dist-upgrade did remove major software components like plasma, window
manager (kwin) and in consequence many kde applications I use daily. I
did not report it but now I want to make sure it is know (and would like
to know if it is normal).

NB: application forced removal where qt5 based apps not qt4...

Re: Bug#872913: libkf5declarative5: KDE refuses to be installed (libkf5declarative5 and python-pyqt5 have dependencies not satisfied)

2017-08-23 Thread Eric Valette

Various qt 5.9 packages are being uploaded to the unstable archives now, but
as there are quite a few of them, they not all land in unstable at the same
time. That's a consequence of running *unstable*, these things happen.

Your best course of action (imo) is adding testing to your sources and
downgrade the 5.9 packages to the 5.7 ones ... and probably prefer testing
(over unstable) and maybe also stick with testing instead of unstable.

While, I do hear that (usual excuse for breaking unstable, and telling
users to shut up), I nevertheless would like to say that qt 5.9.x has
been in experimental for over a month (beginning of July at least if
memory serves), with kde 5.28 been added later on also to experimental
and that very same dependency problem had existed identically in
experimental for as long and nobody did fix it, and then we rediscover
it in unstable with a much wider audience. I would have expected this
kind of transition being part of experimental before moving to unstable
as it has been in the past.

Seamlessly, kde 5.37 is currently landing in experimental but is also
currently uninstallable for the very same root reason.

Re: Bug#872913: libkf5declarative5: KDE refuses to be installed (libkf5declarative5 and python-pyqt5 have dependencies not satisfied)

2017-08-24 Thread Eric Valette

On 24/08/2017 16:44, Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer wrote:

The sole fact that you wrote this make it clear that you don't understand how
transitions works and what they are for. Stuff was available in experimental

But some kde package were obviously because upgrading qt5.9.1 in
experimental was pulling only kde 5.28 stuff while unstable did not have
it due to dependencies while other did not recompile making kde in
experimental rather broken for months...

And let's not forget that in the meantime we ended preparing the packages in
experimental and got the slot for the transition both gcc and cmake changed
bringing up new bugs.

Granted.

So please Eric, try to avoid this comments, you are both misleading users and
showing that you really don't understand what's going on.

As a end user (but with years and years of debian useage (>20)), I think
I'm still entitled to tell you :

	1) Potentially breaking one of the main graphical interfaces for weeks
via a dist-upgrade is painful especially when default installed kde
package manager actual settings do a dist-upgrade equivalent that
removes most kde stuff. BTW I'm not impacted but my list of hold
package keeps growing. Ok we are few months after a stable release so
that's less important because less user need unstable...
	2) kde environment as a whole being maybe the most demanding qt test
bench applications, it may had been useful to check hat kde is running
fine *before* transitioning : reading FTBS bug opened, it appears that
some essential kde package indeed have never been compiled with qt 5.9.1
(and current cmake but that's another story as it was done in //).

Seamlessly, kde 5.37 is currently landing in experimental but is also
currently uninstallable for the very same root reason.

Again, wrong. 5.37 stuff is in hold there due to various packages being in the
NEW queue waiting for a FTP master to review them. Once they pass that queue
the maintainer needs to check that everything is OK and then push it to
unstable, as long as something doe snot requires a transition too.

Ok.

Again please refrain to make this comments in the future.

I'm afraid I may continue because you've been too good before with very
smooths transitions because they were tested via experimental by several
people like me before landing unstable...

I do appreciate a lot your work, take this critic as an hint to do even
better next time :-)

I know what transition are. some are more prepared than others, that's
the only point I complain.

Again, another reason that confirms what I wrote above. It's called unstable
for a reason, users using unstable are expected to find this issues and be
able to cope with them reporting *real* bugs. If you don't expect to see this
then switch to testing.

When I finc bug in experimental or unstable before they it testing, on
the other hand you are happy ;-) And I did find quite a few...

Again, false. We did rebuild the key packages related to the transition.
That's actually one of the reasons it took us that much time before uploading
packages and asking for the transition slot.

There should not be FTBS related only to qt 5.9 then or the change were
not commited ...

Does the problem also occur with libc6 from testing/sid?

from backtrace it crashes with SIGSEGV qt5 qml somewhere so I would be

As far as bug reproduction goes, I have systematic once crash when I

Seems to be related to gtk application emulation  as I never got it

Bug#834359: The crash occurs while opening credential popups

2016-09-20 Thread Eric Valette
I managed to duplicate the bug reliably on firefox : go on a page where
you must enter stored credential. As I have a master password, I get the
first popup to ask for it and when it prompt for the second popup with
the credential themselves, it crashes.

In TB as, I have tree popups (bug as it ask for the master password tree
times) for different email accounts, it crashes also when opening the
second one, once the main TB window is open (the first one appears
before the main window in my case).

First of all, the bug is not critical because it only affects a very
specific setup for a particular video driver.

A docked station using a nvidia driver is not that uncommon I guess...

I suspect that the bug is not present in sddm but in the nvidia
driver, triggered by sddm by trying to use composite on the video
output as is left by the X driver initialization.

The bug is not only in the video driver as kdm works...

What happens if you use the maui sddm theme?

To test this you'll need to install sddm-theme-maui, and create/modify
your /etc/sddm.conf to include:

[Theme]
Current=maui

The breeze theme starts sddm in composite mode, which might not be
correctly initialized for your video card by default in your
particular setup.

Will try and report.

Interesting.

kdm and sddm are completely different beasts, but afaik neither have
specific code for handling an external monitor. Also, this nagging about
kdm is not productive, if you don't care about working on this issue,
please switch to a different display manager.

When you say its a bug in the nvidia driver that is also counter
productive and annoying for me because without external monitor, the
same drivers, same version same everything (except as said external
monitor) works well with sddm on other laptop. I use kdm example just to
say that the driver is not at fault. I just want to have sddm working
but see no progress and on my side, there is not much I can do as I have
no graphical environment at all as soon as I switch to sddm as a launcher.

Yes the Xorg.0.log is created and there is no difference compared to

Attached is the sddm log file when it fails

I tried to do an xrandr on tty1 console using xranrd -d :0 but it fails

After seeing the sddm blank screen switch to a tty (ctrl-alt-f2) and as
root, or as the sddm user run:
XAUTHORITY=/var/run/sddm/* DISPLAY=:0 xrandr

It worked indeed. Result attached. Identical to kdm case

2 r-x-ceva6380:~->xrandr > xrandr_kdm 2>&1
3 r-x-ceva6380:~->diff xrandr_kdm xrandr_sddm
4 r-x-ceva6380:~->

Consistent with the fact that Xorg.0.log reports the same display and
all nvidia traces are also identical beween kdm launch and sddm launch.
So X selects correctly the right display (and I have the small drawing
on the screen after switching X on that show a displayport icon as when
I start kdm) before evrything goes dark and monitor led turns off.

So I bet sddm or the sddm greeter greeter is at fault. What else can I
do to help fixing?

Could you try to use nvidia-settings to disable your laptop screen, via
the X Server Display Configuration menu and use save X configuration
file (in /tmp/xorg.conf) back up you actual /etx/X11/xorg.conf if you
have one and then replace your working dual screen conf by the
/tmp/xorg.conf

NB : actually the xorg.conf file generated is not perfect it misses the
config for the second monitor, and still use the laptop screen
identifier in the Screen section while adding the external monitor config

I was in a meeting so undocked my laptop and by curiosity completely
removed the xorg.conf and tried sddm. Even in this simpliest config it
fails and the screen goes black after displaying the Nvidia logo
(usually I use the No Logo option but as xorg.conf was empty). I got
sddm errors in /var/run/sddm.log. It says the greeter can't open the
display.

So probably the problem is not the docking and the external monitor.
Compared to other working setup with same software stack (legacy 340
nvidia driver), the only thing I can see that differs is the fact that
the laptop lid is wired via DisplayPort versus HDMI.

This bug cannot be reprodced without left over print file in /var/spool/cups.
So I understand nobody is able to reproduce it. Simply cleaning thé /var/spool
directory is sufficient to make the bug disappear.

I do not mind if you close it for now.

Bug#815559: konsole: Konsole fails to use default font when selected font in profile becomes unavailable

2016-02-22 Thread Eric Valette
Package: konsole
Version: 4:15.12.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

In my konsole profile, I was using droid fonts that juts habe veen removed.
So I started my konsole, got the screen but nothing was displayed at all.
It should at least use a default (backup) font and print something to help
user fixing the problem.

To reprodure : define a profile witha font, then remove the font and restart.

I understand that this is very frustrating for you, but there is an
easy workaround, changing the font through the menu, thus I'm
downgrading the bug severity.
Once you figure out, this is "only" a "display" problem... Been hunting
it for a while, started other shells, ... And if I post the bug, it is
not for me but for others. But fine with the severity downgrade.

I've forwarded your bug report upstream, please, if possible,
subscribe to the upstream bug, so if it needs to be followed up you
can give the requested feedback.

Ok. Will do. But must be home to get a hand on my kde account credentials...

Bug#815679: dolphin: Dolphin enables to set additional acl permissions but is unable to display them

2016-02-23 Thread Eric Valette
Package: dolphin
Version: 4:15.12.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

cat > toto.txt
hello ACL

Here I have only set regular permissions.

Then I used dophin and selected the toto.txt file, thyen right click
properties, permissions, advanced permissions, add entries

I managed to give user clamav rwx permission on the file as shown
below (note the + on the ls line)

3 r-x-ceva6380:~->ls -l toto.txt
-rw-rwxr--+ 1 ceva6380 ceva6380 10 Feb 23 16:35 toto.txt
4 r-x-ceva6380:~->getfacl toto.txt
# file: toto.txt
# owner: ceva6380
# group: ceva6380
user::rw-
user:clamav:rwx <=
group::r--
mask::rwx
other::r--

But if you quit dolphin, and redo the same stuff it does not show
the user:clamav:rwx in the advanced permissions.

Bug#818653: Fine but when will we be able to test experimental

I intended the bug as whislist but my first one didn't get correctly
out. The second time I forgot...

The real question is that for months we are unable to have a working

Right, but I'm afraid it's not our problem. Tell KDE upstreams to avoid using
Qt's private headers and that will become possible again.

True but on the otehr hand you could rebuild the offending packages
specifically for experimental using qt 4.6 dependencies. Because as it
is you let the user with the choice of not updating or building the
packages themselves...

Bug#819777: dolphin does not work with experimental kde5 stuffs

2016-04-02 Thread Eric Valette
Package: dolphin
Version: 4:15.12.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I finally managed to install kde5 experimental stuff without removing much.
Globally it works but I found that dolphin is unuseable : when you click
on a directory e.g /multimedia/books, the first time nothing happens and
later it show on the locaton bar /multimedia/books/books/books/books/...

As many books as you have clicked on directory and never enters it.
I tried rebuilding from sources, no chnage same problem.

I also noticed my own digikam5 build has problems reindexing my photo
library as if it looped...

Bug#819777: I'm unable to find a pattern when it works or does not

2016-04-03 Thread Eric Valette
I tested on second computer recently upgrated to experimental KDE =>
same problem.

Tested on different filesystem (ext4, ntfs3g) => idem

I does however work on some directory but Icannot find any rationale.
