For anyone else still trying to get konsole to open URLs in a browser (as if it would be safe to open them anywhere else), without solving the mystery of which packages you need to bring in for `kcmshell5 componentchooser`, I think the sufficient incantation (tested on stretch) is to: Add to ~/.config/kdeglobals: [General] BrowserApplication[$e]=!/usr/bin/google-chrome and start a new konsole where it will take effect.

Bug#956506: Confirmed, regression since 5:102 in buster
Confirming I'm also seeing this bug after an upgrade of my desktop to bullseye. It worked fine in buster (kde-plasma-desktop 5:102), though I freely confess I have no idea which underlying KDE component or package is invovled. Looks like this is upstream bug #413104 - I confirmed the bug is only present when using "Desktop" layout, not "Folder View". -- Ivan Kohler

What have I done? Well, here's what: === Removing kdepim-kio-plugins ... Removing opensync-plugin-kdepim ... Removing libkmime2 ... Removing libkdepim1a ... Removing libkcal2b ... Removing libktnef1 ... Selecting previously deselected package kjots. Unpacking kjots (from .../kjots_4%3a4.1.0-1_i386.deb) ... Selecting previously deselected package libopensync1exp4. Unpacking libopensync1exp4 (from .../libopensync1exp4_0.36+r3307-1_i386.deb) ... Preparing to replace opensyncutils 0.36-2 (using .../opensyncutils_0.36+r3307-1_i386.deb) ... Unpacking replacement opensyncutils ... Preparing to replace akonadi-server 0.82.0-1 (using .../akonadi-server_1.0.0-2_i386.deb) ... Unpacking replacement akonadi-server ... = Sadly I have no idea which one of these might be the issue. My guess is OpenSync-Plugin-KDEPIM since it's for KDE 3.5.9, or perhaps the fact that KJots was not installed. Personally I do not think upgrade to Akonadi-Server or OpenSyncUtils had significance, and since libOpenSync1exp4 is (I guess) binary incompatible with 1exp3 which is a dependency of KitchenSync, I suppose installing it had any significance either. I did NOT install the entire kdepim package since I do not need all stuff in kdepim, besides, I dislike selecting such dummy packages with sole purpose of installing tons of its dependencies; that makes finetuning harder. Hope this helps. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (1000, 'testing'), (101, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kitchensync depends on: ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.1.0-1 runtime components from the offici ii kdelibs5 4:4.1.0-1 core libraries for all KDE 4 appli ii kdepimlibs5 4:4.1.0-1 core libraries for KDE PIM 4 appli ii libc6 2.7-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libkdepim44:4.1.0-1 KDE PIM library ii libopensync1exp3 0.36-2 Synchronisation framework for emai ii libqt4-xml4.4.0-4Qt 4 XML module ii libqtcore44.4.0-4Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4.4.0-4Qt 4 GUI module ii libstdc++64.3.1-2The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 kitchensync recommends no packages. Bug#503336: New version available
2009/5/3 Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer > Ivan: a new version of kopete (4.2.2-1) is available. Could you please > check > that the bug still applies? (I can find the "services" sub menu, but GTalk > doesn't provide transports, so I can not test it myself). You can use non-GTalk server just for transport services; you don't even have to have an account on that server. For example, jaim.at. However if you do use jaim.at or msn.jaim.at or some other transport server with Google, be aware that it'll spam your account with all your other-service contacts, which you probably don't want to do. Luckily, Jabber provides extremely simple account registration, so I think it should be no problem to register a test account on jaim.at :) Regarding the bug, yes, apparently I can see the "Services" submenu now. However restart of Kopete is required for the new virtual "account" to appear in the account list on bottom of the window. Also none of the transport-specific contacts appear. I have tested with MSN and ICQ transports at Jaim.at. When using Psi, at least my ICQ contacts do appear (and I get asked for confirmation to authorize adding them to my contact list). Are you sure your jabber server provides transports? (I don't know). > Yes, I previously tested with Psi (a specialized jabber client). -- Regards, Ivan Vučica

(Source: kdebase) Because to me as a user, this is where I'd see the feature - as an alternate rendering engine available in Konqueror, built along with konqueror and other items from kdebase source. I have no opinion on whether it would be more appropriate to move the bug to kdebase - feel free to move it if so. > > > I'm closing this bug because it's invalid. > > > > This statement does not follow from the previous ones. > > > > This is certainly a valid wishlist bug. It is a reasonable wishlist bug, and the current state or release status of the implementation is NOT RELEVANT and NOT justification to close the bug. (IIRC, the previous gecko port did see the light of day - I seem to recall a debian package of it for KDE 2.x) Feel free to retitle this bug to "Please include a Gecko layout engine" or something along those lines if the specific mention of "kecko" is what you find inappropriate here. > and that doesn't have any relation with kdebase. My impression was that kecko was to be an alternate rendering engine for the konqueror browser that could be built alongside or as an alternative to the KTHML engine from KDE source. How does that have no relation to kdebase? > > If you don't plan to implement the feature even when it is available > > upstream, leave it open and tag it wontfix. > > Maybe the best solution is reassign it to wnpp and retitle it as a RFP bug. > Then, if someone wants to package it, it's his/her decision. My impression is that it would be an option when compiling KDE, not a standalone package. Hence I filed the bug against the relevant KDE component (to me as a user, anyway) rather than as an RFP. If kecko will be _separate_ source package that isn't built from KDE source, then reassigning to wnpp and retitling as RFP would be appropriate - but as I said my impression was that it would be a part of the KDE source (albeit one that depended on Gecko). > I _think_ is invalid because this software is unreleased, The unreleased status of the kecko software in no way makes the bug invalid. Consider the situation where the kecko software didn't exist at all; a wishlist bug for gecko renderer support in konqueror would certainly be appropriate. The fact that some work has actually been done toward this end but is not yet released does not invalidate the wishlist bug during the time it takes upstream to implement and release. > but I'm 99% sure that this isn't a valid wishlist bug I believe you are incorrect for the reasons stated above. > _agaisnt konqueror_. As you note below, the port *is* code related to KDE, specifically a KPart that will eventually be available from the same source. This wishlist bug is for the inclusion of said code in the konqueror package, or another KDE package alongside it, enabling me to use the konqueror browser with the Gecko rendering engine in addition to KHTML. > > My impression is that it would be an option when compiling KDE, not a > > standalone package. No. At that moment may make sense to think about *implementing* the feature in Debian. The wishlist bug is appropriate at any time. > This is my point, and I hope you understood it. I am a Debian developer, and I have never heard nor seen documented the conditions you state are necessary for a wishlist bug. On the contrary, wishlist bugs are commonly used to request features in _any_ state of completion, even those for which there is no code or even an idea before the wishlist bug itself. The BTS developer documentation at http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities states that wishlist bugs are appropriate "for any feature request", not "requests for features already released upstream". -- _ivan

No, the unreleased state of the product or unusability does not make the wishlist bug invalid. :) We've been through this already. My impression was that the kpart would be in KDE upstream, like the old one from the 2.x days. However, if the kpart really will live in Mozilla upstream rather than KDE upstream, the bug could certainly be retitled to an RFP and reassigned to wnpp, or reassigned to the appropriate Mozilla package. Bug#237327: kmenuedit: copy/paste pastes the copy in two places
Package: kmenuedit Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: normal I am trying to edit my KDE menu using kmenuedit. There are some programs currently under "Debian, Apps, Programming" that I would also like to be under "Development" (like ddd and boa-constructor). In kmenuedit, I select the entry for ddd, then select copy from the menu. Then I click the Development folder, and then I select paste from the menu. An entry for ddd appears in the Development folder as expected. I then save my changes and exit out of kmenuedit. The bug is that when I look at the menu, now ddd will have two entries under "Debian, App, Programming". It's like it is pasting the copy in the original section of the menu and in the destination that I asked for. -Ivan -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.3 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages kmenuedit depends on: ii kdelibs44:3.2.1-1KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-22.3.16-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfam0c102 2.7.0-5 client library to control the FAM ii libgcc1 1:3.3.3-2GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0-5 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpng12-0 1.2.5.0-5PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3:3.2.3-2Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 4.3.0-5 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.3-2The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-64.3.0-5 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext64.3.0-5 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxrender1 0.8.3-5 X Rendering Extension client libra ii xlibs 4.3.0-5 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g 1:1.2.1-4compression library - runtime -- no debconf information
Bug#238541: kwin: xmms doesn't minimize properly
Package: kwin Version: 4:3.2.1-1 Severity: normal First of all, I'm not sure if the bug here is with xmms or with kwin. Basically, ever since going to KDE 3.2 (kwin 4:3.2.1-1), xmms does not minimize properly. I have the xmms top part and the xmms playlist editor stuck together and visible. With older versions of kwin, if I minimized the top part, the playlist editor would disappear along with the top part. With this version of kwin, the playlist editor stays on the screen after I minimize the top part. This is very annoying because the playlist editor does not even have a button on it to be minimized (leaving no good workaround). -Ivan -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.4 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages kwin depends on: ii kdelibs44:3.2.1-1KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-22.3.16-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:3.3.3-3GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0-5 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpng12-0 1.2.5.0-5PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3:3.2.3-2Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 4.3.0-5 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.3-3The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-64.3.0-5 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext64.3.0-5 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxrender1 0.8.3-7 X Rendering Extension client libra ii xlibs 4.3.0-5 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g 1:1.2.1-5compression library - runtime -- no debconf information

Bug#261753: kdelibs4: application associations never get saved
Package: kdelibs4 Version: 4:3.2.3-3 Severity: normal KDE doesn't seem to save my appliaction associations for PDF. I'll describe the scenario in more detail. Out of the box, KDE doesn't seem to know what to do with a .pdf file. When I click on one of them on my Desktop, I get a window to pick the application to open it with. I select '/usr/bin/xpdf'. I also check the box "Remember application association for this type of file". Then I click Ok. A window appears that says "Updating System Configuration" with a percentage bar. It fills up to 100% and disappears. The PDF opens in xpdf. However, nothing was saved apparently. If I close xpdf, and click on the .pdf file again, I get exactly the same dialog that wants me to chose what application to open it with again. Hi our friendly KDebian maintainers, I would have appreciated it very much if you mailed me first time you had this issue. As a developer and Debian user I have no idea about policies regarding ABI and relations to Debian packages. I guess it would have saved you a lot of hassle if you notified me of this issue before and if we dealt with it on time. I usually don't even read the mails titled 'Accepted kdeplasma-addons ...' - this time I did by pure luck. Anyhow, liblancelot has no ABI-stability planned for the foreseeable future, but from KDE SC 4.6 not only plasma-widget-lancelot will depend on it - the Shelf applet, now a part of lancelot's build will move out since it can be used even w/o plasma-widget-lancelot installed. Re: Accepted kdeplasma-addons 4:4.4.4-1 (source all amd64)
> Just when you consider library as private (which liblancelot0 is afaiu), > it's easier to keep it that way (no headers) until you think the library > is ready (and useful) for the public. Well, I'm torn apart on this matter. At the moment, liblancelot is a part of kdeplasma-addons and it is limited to it and to KDE's playground. In that sense, it is private. And I guess it always will be (since it is plasma-based I do expect that most users will eventually go into kdeplasma-addons). But not because I don't want anyone to use it. When I moved (for SC 4.5) the library from kdeplasma- addons/applet/lancelot/libs/lancelot to kdeplasma-addons/libs/lancelot, it was meant to be a sign that is is beginning to be stable enough for other projects to use it. IIRC, Debian split it into a separate package a long time ago. The policy before the move was that it can be used in the outside world, but that it should be considered unstable - functionality-wise. Now, it is stable in the sense it will not crash an application that is using it, that it works rather well (except two classes I'll need to rethink for 4.6) and that it has a rather stable API. Somehow it seemed logical to make it public as soon as it got separated into a library - for the adventurous/brave people (just like libplasma was until it got moved to kdelibs), but now that I see the things from your perspective, I see it wasn't a such a bright idea after all... Bug#594774: plasma-widget-lancelot: selection box is not always properly centered
That is done intentionally - to reduce the empty space. In KDE SC 4.5, it is visually different than it used to be so the it doesn't look so odd. (albeit, the new visual approach has its disadvantages as well, but IMO it looks better) Cheerio. -- While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words Dying to believe in what you heard I was staring straight into the shining sun -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Attached two images? Where? The overlap is intentional, whether you believe it or not (was requested in a bug report a long time ago) The different amount of overlap is, on the other hand an undesired side-effect which I'll have to deal with eventually. Yes, the padding for Applications is bigger compared to other parts, and that will need to be fixed. Are you using the same theme in Kubuntu? (it is the only thing that comes to mind since the padding depends on the theme, and the layout code wasn't changed since 4.4) On 3 September 2010 09:15, Jonan wrote: > I've been trying Lancelot in Kubuntu 10.4 (KDE 4.4) and I wasn't able to > reproduce this. > -- While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words Dying to believe in what you heard I was staring straight into the shining sun -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#482038: kdesktop_lock hangs when the screensaver dies
Package: kdesktop Version: 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2+b1 Severity: important I have fireworks X screen saver and Composite enabled. This seems to make screen saver die after some time of execution. After the screen saver dies, kdesktop_lock hangs the X screen. All my previous content can be seen (as there's no screensaver on top), but it does not respond to clicks or keypresses. After this, I have to change to a text console (Ctrl+Alt+F1, for example), login, and kill the kdesktop_lock process. This makes my X screen usable again when I return to it (Ctrl+Alt+F7). -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-duo (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kdesktop depends on: ii kdebase-bin 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2+b1 core binaries for the KDE base mod ii kdeeject 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2script used by KDE to eject remova ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-4core libraries and binaries for al ii libc62.7-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.3.0-3 GCC support library ii libgl1-mesa-glx [lib 7.0.3-1 A free implementation of the OpenG ii libglu1-mesa [libglu 7.0.3-1 The OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii libkonq4 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2+b1 core libraries for Konqueror ii libqt3-mt3:3.3.8b-5 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libstdc++6 4.3.0-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 authorisation library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.9-1 X cursor management library ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxss1 1:1.1.3-1 X11 Screen Saver extension library ii libxxf86misc11:1.0.1-2 X11 XFree86 miscellaneous extensio kdesktop recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#437091: kpilotDaemon hangs when "usb:" is used as handheld device
Subject: kpilotDaemon hangs when "usb:" is used as handheld device Package: kpilot Version: 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-6 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software *** Please type your report below this line *** When kpilotDaemon is run having configured "usb:" as the handheld device (instead of /dev/ttyUSB0 or similar), kpilotDaemon hangs on a nanosleep call. This causes: - kpilotDaemon icon in system tray appear transparent (totally empty square) - KPilot stop with progress bar indicating 10% of sync (if kpilotDaemon is launched by kdeinit) - KPilot hang if kpilotDaemon was not previously launched and KPilot has to launch it And the "critical" issue: - Any other program which tries to contact kpilotDaemon hangs. For example: kdcop I can send straces or anything else you ask for. The only reason why I filed this bug critical is that it can make other packages hang, but I don't consider it a critical issue as I have not found any other program, apart from kdcop, hanging.
