When I talked about konqueror I meant kio and while I did notice the post about khtml, its about a broader issue of many kio handlers like sftp sites, webdav and indeed khtml. I agree thats a not so great solution, but I hope you agree that its better to have two wallet manager UIs available if we end up with two wallet systems. Or, in other words, if the unfortunate event happens that there are apps in the main debian repos linking against the wallet libraries from kdelibs4, I would like to suggest that packaging the old walletmanager would be non-optional. > > > Just in case this is not a known issue; > > > if you run kde4 based apps, like konqueror or kontact, they use a wallet > > > that is not supported and not visible in the kde5 based kcm. > > > > Dolphin in unstable is KF 5 / Qt 5 based already. For example if you have a large dir with (text) files and you want to click on each file and show the contents in a split view on the right side without any windows opening or closing. I agree its too unique a usecase to put sufficient time into packaging kde4 libs and all that stuff, but I just wanted to make sure you realize that konqueror as a webbrowser is not really its sole usecase. It is the hacker- friendly version of dolphin, in my opinion :) In the meantime I wonder if you managed to store a single password in your kde5 based wallet yet. For instance your wifi password. I have so far not succeeded. Just creating a new wallet doesn't even work from the kcm. Not sure if thats a packaging issue, a local issue, or an upstream issue. Thanks! -- Tom Zander

Ugly fonts and images with Konstruct/KDE 3.2.1
Hey all, It's unbelievable how many places and mailboxes I already have polluted with my question, but I'm getting quite desperate, and nobody seems to be able to help me further (that includes [EMAIL PROTECTED], be.comp.os.linux, comp.windows.x.kde, and [EMAIL PROTECTED]). I installed KDE 3.2.1 using Konstruct. It sits in /opt/kde3.2.1 and I can use it just fine. The only problem is its rendering of both images and fonts, as visible here: http://tom.verbreyt.be/tmp/snapshot1.png http://tom.verbreyt.be/tmp/snapshot2.png As the second shot shows, it's not only fonts that get, ehm, "crumbled", so I guess it can't be Xft related. I just used the gdm entry script of that in the official Debian ksmserver package (exec /etc/X11/Xsession /opt/kde3.2.1/bin/startkde), and added the environment variables mentioned in Konstructs README above that line (QTDIR, KDEDIR, PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, all properly mentioning /opt/kde3.2.1). Following tips from [EMAIL PROTECTED], Konstructs maintainer, I concluded that Xrender was properly compiled in. Another tip I got was on Usenet. Someone in comp.windows.x.kde told me to try setting the default font to some TTF, rather than what obviously was chosen as the default (helvetica). At that point, I noticed that *none* of my truetype fonts are available within Konstruct! I'm happily using them in Gnome right now, so that shouldn't be happening. That's the only clue I have. I guess there is a problem with the Xserver, but I can't think of any reason for that. Previously, I have been using Konstruct/KDE 3.2.1 installed in my own home directory, and none of this happened. I figure something must go wrong when I try to have it installed and usable for all users, by putting it in /opt. Would anyone be able to give me further clues, tips or hints? I'm really out of those.
Bug#282281: kde: KDE applications take over Gnome file types
Package: kde Version: 5:42 Severity: normal Installing the KDE desktop packages after having installed the Gnome desktop (and possibly running KDE once) causes KDE to take over lots of mime types from Gnome even when running Gnome. For example, MP3's are now played with noatun. Also, Nautilus keeps crashing when trying to view folders with multimedia content, which may be due to Nautilus trying to invoke KDE applications. It seems to me that something is seriously broken with the KDE packaging for Debian. Installing KDE packages or running the KDE desktop should not make the Gnome desktop less usable. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.9-1-k7 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages kde depends on: ii kde-amusements5:42 The K Desktop Environment (Games a ii kde-core 5:42 The K Desktop Environment (Core) ii kdeaddons 4:3.3.1-1 add-on plugins and applets provide ii kdeadmin 4:3.3.1-1 KDE Administration tools metapacka ii kdeartwork4:3.3.1-1 themes, styles and more from the o ii kdegraphics 4:3.3.1-1 KDE Graphics metapackage ii kdemultimedia 4:3.3.1-1 KDE Multimedia metapackage ii kdenetwork4:3.3.1-2 KDE Network metapackage ii kdepim4:3.3.1-1 KDE Personal Information Managemen ii kdeutils 4:3.3.1-1 KDE Utilities metapackage ii kdewebdev 1:3.3.1-1 web development apps from the offi -- no debconf information
Bug#777263: kde-window-manager: KWin crashes at logon on i965 graphics system with desktop effects enabled
Package: kde-window-manager Version: 4:4.11.13-2 Severity: important After a recent update to one of my Debian Jessie laptops (the one where I actually use KDE all the time), I started to get annoying KWin crashes at logon, with undesired consecuences (desktop effects partially working, the panel appears at the wrong edge of the screen, panel is rendered completely opaque instead of the partial transparency effect I've set). Bug#800821: dolphin: Dolphin KPart no longer working on Konqueror
Package: dolphin Version: 4:15.08.1-1 Severity: important Recently after one of my daily dist-upgrade cycles on my Testing laptop, I've noticed that Konqueror only offers Terminal and FSView views, defaulting to the latter (which looks kinda cool, but it's pretty much useless for daily usage). No other views are offered under the view menu. After studying for a bit, it turns out that Konqueror depends on Dolphin for implementing the normal folder views. Cool, Dolphin is actually installed, and works standalone, but not from inside Konqueror. I haven't modified any setting since the (admittedly rough) transition to KDE5. Looks like Konqueror somehow can't even see the relevant Dolphin KPart at all. What I've tried so far? - Reinstalling Dolphin: no luck - Moving away my .kde directory (which doesn't seem to be used lately for almost every KDE application except for Konqueror): still no luck - Restarting KDE: sounds dunb, but there are still some stuff that is kinda broken but gets fixed after a restart. Not this, sadly. This has become annoying to me since Konqueror is my "daily driver" for file management tasks when I'm on KDE - Dolphin is simply too underpowered for my tastes, but it's amusing (to say the least) to learn that Konqueror needs Dolphin nowadays for doing its thing. Anyway, dunno about filling this bug report under Konqueror or Dolphin package, so I'm reporting under the latter for now. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.2.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_VE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_VE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages dolphin depends on: ii libc6 2.19-22 ii libdolphinvcs5 4:15.08.1-1 ii libkf5baloo5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5baloowidgets515.08.0-2 ii libkf5bookmarks5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5codecs5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5completion5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5configcore5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5configgui5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5configwidgets5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5coreaddons5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5dbusaddons5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5filemetadata35.14.0-1 ii libkf5i18n55.14.0-1 ii libkf5iconthemes5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5itemviews5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5jobwidgets5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5kcmutils55.14.0-1 ii libkf5kiocore5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5kiofilewidgets5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5kiowidgets5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5newstuff55.14.0-1 ii libkf5notifications5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5parts5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5service5 5.14.3-1 ii libkf5solid5 5.14.0-2 ii libkf5textwidgets5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5widgetsaddons5 5.14.0-1 ii libkf5windowsystem55.14.0-1 ii libkf5xmlgui5 5.14.0-1 ii libphonon4qt5-44:4.8.3-2 ii libqt5core5a 5.4.2+dfsg-9 ii libqt5dbus55.4.2+dfsg-9 ii libqt5gui5 5.4.2+dfsg-9 ii libqt5widgets5 5.4.2+dfsg-9 ii libqt5xml5 5.4.2+dfsg-9 ii libstdc++6 5.2.1-17 ii phonon4qt5 4:4.8.3-2 Versions of packages dolphin recommends: ii ruby 1:2.1.5.1 Versions of packages dolphin suggests: pn dolphin-plugins -- no debconf information

Bug#836436: plasma-desktop: KDE 5.6.5/stretch upgrade on Spetember 2nd makes system tray icons invisible
Package: plasma-desktop Version: 4:5.6.5-1 Followup-For: Bug #836436 Can confirm here. Not all systray icons are crippled as result of the update - in my case I still have a volume control icon (provided by KMix, not Plasma), and a icon for CDEmu (a third-party application), so it seems only Plasma-native systray applets are affected. All other icons (Bluetooth, network, devices, touchpad, clipboard...) are blank/invisible. In my case they ONLY react to right-click! kde wallet services
Hi, I was wondering if there is any ideas on how to solve the utter brokenness of the wallet services on Debian Stretch right now. Before freeze (the way it looks now) I'd suggest removing the kde5 walletmanager and shipping the kde4 one by default and compiling kde5 without the wallet subsystem. Just in case this is not a known issue; if you run kde4 based apps, like konqueror or kontact, they use a wallet that is not supported and not visible in the kde5 based kcm. So if you go to the wallet manager you will see different information or no wallet at all. Next to that, the kcm (kde5) for the "kde wallet" is quite buggy and unfinished. (quick example, try changing anything to get the password dialog and then wait a minute. It times-out and shows an error dialog). -- Tom Zander
Bug#827632: kde-plasma-desktop: Screensaver logs me out all now
Package: kde-plasma-desktop Version: 5:90 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Thanks for the work you do. I fairly recently updated my Debian unstable system, and now the KDE screensaver logs me out everytime it activates. For example, if I leave my machine idle for 10 minutes. The screen blanks. When I move the mouse, the login window appears. When I login again, it's starting a new session. All my previously running applications, have been killed. I can verify that I have been logged out by Ctrl-Alt-F1, login via terminal, and "ps aux" shows that my processes are gone. I can also reproduce this problem, but typing Ctrl-Alt-L. This activates the screensaver. When I login again, it's like logging in from scratch rather than just unlocking the screensaver. I've looked for a setting to control this, but I can't find one. I've been using KDE for years, and it has never behaved this way for me. It's just been happening for a week or two. Bug#828846: kmail: After upgrading kmail this morning it looked empty. All mail folders removed from mailserver
Package: kmail Version: 4:4.14.10-2 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I've done an aptitude upgrade this morning which meant I received the newest kmail. I don't think there was an akonodi upgrade in there. Afterwards I started kontact and in my kmail view I no longer saw my imap / kolab folders. My todos was also empty and my calendar from caldav (owncloud) was not showing in the calendar app. Some time later I rebooted my laptop and logged back in. I noticed that still everything was missing, but the account was still present in the overview of kmail configure screen. Bug#828846: kmail: After upgrading kmail this morning it looked empty. All mail folders removed from mailserver
Quite unexpected, another cause showed itself. The email provider had done something to loose all folders and it took responsibility when I asked if they made backups (they did). So this bug can be closed. Apologies for blaming the innocent! Bug#495798: kuickshow: Feature request: minimum scaling factor
Package: kuickshow Version: 4:3.5.9-2 Severity: wishlist *** Please type your report below this line *** Kuickshow can automatically scale small images up to a given scale factor to make them more visible on the screen. What I'm suggesting is having an optional minimum scale factor, so that if an image can be scaled up by this minimum factor and still fit on the screen, it will be scaled as far as the screen size/maximum scale factor allow. If it cannot be scaled up by this minimum factor, it should be displayed 1:1. For example, if I have a 1024x768 screen a minimum scale factor of 3 and a maximum of 8, a 50x30 image would be scaled up to fill a space 400x240 pixels in size but a 640x480 image would be displayed at its actual size, 640x480 pixels. The idea is to make small images easy to see, but not make medium-sized ones look ugly with scaling artifacts or take up more screen space than they need to. Other solutions to this problem would be fine too, this is just one option. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kuickshow depends on: ii imlib11 1.9.15-7 Imlib is an imaging library for X ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6 core libraries and binaries for al ii libc6 2.7-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.3.1-8GCC support library ii libqt3-mt 3:3.3.8b-5 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libstdc++6 4.3.1-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-62:1.1.4-2X11 client-side library kuickshow recommends no packages. Any idea when this will make it into the Debian FTP Archives? I am still showing kdenetwork as "broken" when I try to do an "aptitude full-upgrade" on the OS390 platform. Bug#266106: possible solution (was Re: Keyboard not working in KDM sometimes)
I tried adding vt7 to the right line in /etc/kde3/kdm/Xservers and that fixed the problem of my keyboard not responding in kdm. I tried adding ServerVTs=-7 to the [General] section of /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc and that also fixed the problem of my keyboard not responding in kdm. Thanks for posting such great tips for us all Adeodato. I noticed that this problem would happen immediately after I booted up my ThinkPad 390x. I would be using the built-in keyboard. (never tried it using an external ) I'm using XFree86 from unstable, version 4.3.0.dfsg or what ever it is. I'm using the mostly default configuration options of a pc104 key us keyboard. I've noticed that besides your tips about editing the config files, there's another solution which works for me, and is very simple. I'm able to get kdm working just by using the menu to go to a console login, then wait a little while and when kdm takes over the display after a few seconds the keyboard works again! I hope this helps with the debugging. - Tom
