Bug#1038089: libqt6gui6: Please have `libqt6gui6` recommend `qt6-wayland`

2023-06-15 Thread Sam Uienn
Package: libqt6gui6
Version: 6.4.2+dfsg-11
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

Could `libqt6gui6` recommend the `qt6-wayland` package, similar to how
`libqt5gui5` recommends `qtwayland5`?

This'd allow Qt6 programs to run under Wayland by default if available, without
them all needing to add their own dependency.

Many thanks, Sam

2024-07-07 Thread Sam Uienn
Package: breeze-gtk-theme
Version: 5.27.11-1

Dear Maintainer,

Could `breeze-gtk-theme` list `gtk2-engines-pixbuf` as a recommends instead of
a depends?

It's the only package on my system that depends on the GTK 2 libs, and I
wouldn't be surprised if
this is the case for others too, so it would be nice to get rid of this hard
dependency.

Thanks for considering,
Sam

Bug#687901: unable to use gtk2-engines

2012-09-16 Thread Sam Protsenko

Package: kde-standard
Version: 5:77
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When "gtk2-engines-oxygen" package installed, GTK2 applications (like
"iceweasel" etc.) don't use GTK2 engines for look'n'feel like KDE apps.
I have found workaround -- to create symbolic link at home directory:

$ ln -s .gtkrc-2.0-kde .gtkrc-2.0

It's related to /usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0/gtkrc file.

With this link GTK2-engines work fine (GTK2 apps looks like KDE ones).
I don't know why this is so, and I really don't know if this issue
related to

KDE or Debian, but I think "user doesn't care" -- we need to
keep this feature easy to use, w/o doing some weird actions like this.

So there is an objective:
GTK2 engines must work at once if one of gtk2-engines-* package is
installed.

Also there is propose (but it's optional) to add gtk2-engines-oxygen
package

to kde-standard, kde-minimal and kde-full packages, because user uses KDE
usually wants to use GTK2 applications (iceweasel, gimp, icedove and
many other

good GTK2 stuff).

krb5: ABI Issue--confirm your packages work against 1.4.3 in experimental

2005-11-19 Thread Sam Hartman

Hi folks. I've just uploaded Mit Kerberos 1.4.3-1 to experimental.

I'm writing to you because your package links against the main
kerberos library (libkrb53) and I'd like you to confirm that the
Kerberos support in your package still works against this version.

The public ABI and API of MIt Kerberos has been stable since before
Woody was released. However MIT reserves the right to change symbols
not mentioned in krb5.h (or mentioned only when KRB5_PRIVATE is
defined) at any point in time. New symbols are not added to
KRB5_PRIVATE without an ABI bump.

Unfortunately, some packages end up calling symbols that are private
such as krb5_init_ets(). Many years ago--before krb5 was introduced
into Debian--this was actually a good idea. however it has been
unnecessary and incorrect for any version of kerberos in Debian.

MIt Kerberos 1.4 apparently marks the first time when MIT has removed
any such symbol. This can cause packages calling such a symbol to
break at runtime. That's not good.

The solution to this problem is to remove the call to the private
symbol. In the case of krb5_init_ets (the common problem), just
remove the call. In the case of any other symbols, fix the problem if
it is obvious, or ask [EMAIL PROTECTED] for help if it is not. (I'm on
that list; you could just ask me, but you will be better off asking a
larger list).

I'd appreciate it if you would take the time to see if your package
works against the new Kerberos library. The easiest way to do this is
to build your package or at least the kerberos using parts of your
package against the new libkrb5-dev package and confirm there are no
warnings about missing prototypes and that your package can
successfully link to libkrb5.

If you do find problems, please upload a version of your package that
fixes the problem (built against the old library) to unstable. Open a
serious bug tagged as experimental against the krb5 package asking me
to conflict with broken versions of your package. Be sure to include
the version of your package that has the fix in the bug description.

The above procedure assumes that you don't need functionality from
krb5 1.4 to work around private symbols you are using. If that ends
up not being the case then talk to me and we'll work something out.

Also, if your package is involved in some sort of transition and has
limited uploading,we'll need to work on timing with the release team.
If for this or any other reason you cannot upload a fix please still
open a bug so I'll know that krb5 1.4 will break your package.

Thanks for your cooperation in making Debian better and helping me
with this transition.

Finally, great thanks to Russ Allbery my co-maintainer for all his
work on the package.

Bug#348610: kcontrol: Causes delay during boot

2006-01-17 Thread Sam Morris
Subject: kcontrol: Causes delay during boot
Package: kcontrol
Version: 4:3.4.3-3
Severity: normal

The script /etc/hotplug/usb/logitechmouse causes a long delay during
boot, while udev waits 'for /dev to by fully populated'. From my tests,
it seems that DEVICE isn't even set in the script's environment, so the
script is timing out while waiting for a file with an empty file to be
created. I suggest adding something like this to the top of the script:

  test -n "$DEVICE" || exit

Or better yet, removing the script entirely: what is the purpose of the
script, and why is it in kcontrol? Why should mouse devices have their
group set to plugdev? Why does this only apply to Logitech mice, and why
only for users of KDE? :)

In fact I just noticed the presence of /etc/udev/logitechmouse.rules that
does the same thing (even though `find /dev -group plugdev` returns no
results--should I file a separate bug for that?). Perhaps the script should
exit immediatly if it detects that /dev/.udev exists?

Bug#318169: Broken sound via artsdsp and Flash

Package: libarts1
Version: 1.3.2-4
Severity: normal

Running mozilla-firefox inside artsdsp, so that flash animations (etc)
can be played via artsdsp is giving inconsistent playback quality.

To reproduce;

  - run up artsd

  - set some soft background music, that your boss likes, going in
xmms playing via xmms-arts

  - start mozilla-firefox with artsdsp

  - go to
http://www.bullshitjob.com/officespace/LumberghOfficeSpace.swf

  - for best effect, wait for your boss to ask you to do something, or
otherwise say something which could almost be or is a quote from
Office Space (1999), then click the button corresponding to what
he just said on the sound board.

The sound comes out, but it sounds broken up and jerky.

The correct behaviour would be to play back the sound unbroken, so
that he hears what he just said played back to him, but layered in low
over the softcock music.

Thanks,
Sam.

Bug#584434: Bug#588536: krb5-kdc: Should it start before gdm/kdm/etc and after DNS servers?

2010-07-10 Thread Sam Hartman
What happens in the case where LDAP is hanging and an administrator is
trying to log in as root or some other user not authenticated by krb5?

It sounds like krb5-kdc not being started before kdm can be solved by
waiting. Having graphical logins on a KDC for a traditional Kerberos
realm is not a very common operation; I understand that it may be more
common in debian-edu, although I'd think even there not hugely common.

If my understanding that blocking kdm on krb5-kdc could delay/prevent
administrative logins in a case where something is hanging trying to
come up, then I'm against making this change or encouraging display
managers to do so.

If waiting for krb5-kdc to come up is not sufficient to unblock kdm,
then there's some other deeper bug here and that problem is fixed.

If my understanding is inaccurate, I would be happy to evaluate the
change based on the new understanding.
