Dear Maintainer,

Since the last update, Kate/kwrite don't accept the file:/// protocol in URLs
any more.
This bug has been reported and fixed upstream:
.
This breaks double-clicking in file managers to open the file, so the issue is
pretty serious and probably warrants a backport.

Kind regards,
Ralf

According to the upstream bug report, the issue was fixed in
kate >= 16.07.80 -- hence, closing with the first version after that
available in Debian, which is 4:16.08.2-1.

Dear Maintainer,
Please consider enabling/adding the pate/python-plugins files to the
kate/kate-data
packages so the python plugins in the upstream kate source are made available to
debian users.

Ubuntu has them enabled in their version of the kate packages (which I'd imaging
will provide any needed reference on the matter). I've been making use of
them
in my own custom rebuilds of the kate packages and I believe having them
available
to debian users in general would be of benefit to other debian users.

Briefly from my own testing it looks like to enable them in the debian packages
the
following changes are required;

add to debian/control the following extra build-deps for the package
 libpython2.7-dev,
 python-sip-dev,
 python-qt4-dev,
 python-kde4-dev (>= 4:4.9.80),
 libqt4-opengl-dev,
 libqtwebkit-dev

While the underlying crash seems to be in the Qt accessibility
integration with AtSpi [1], it was worked around in the character
selector widget (in the kwidgetsaddons framework) used by kcharselect.
Hence, reassigning to kwidgetsaddons, and closing soon.

Segmentation fault.

I have included the gdb backtrace after the SIGSEGV in case it could be useful.

Package: kdevelop-python
Version: 1.7.0-1

https://packages.debian.org/sid/kdevelop-python gives the description
of this package as "Python 3 plugin for KDevelop". Normally IIUC
python3 related packages are marked as python3 and not just as python.
I submit that it would be advisable to rename the package as
kdevelop-python3 and instead package the Python 2 plugin as
kdevelop-python.

(Should I report a separate bug asking for Py 2 plugin?)

Downstream Kubuntu has already independently packaged the Python 2
plugin as kdev-python since last two releases
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=kdev-python&searchon=names),
and is also now inheriting the kdevelop-python package from Debian
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/vivid/kdevelop-python) which leads
to an infelicitous naming situation there i.e. kdev-python for Py 2 vs
kdevelop-python for Py 3.

While I am going to report a separate bug downstream to align with
Debian on the naming issue, I believe Debian should also rename the
kdevelop-python package to kdevelop-python3 to make way for
kdevelop-python for a Py 2 package.

Thanks.

After more than 3 years, this bug can be closed, since upstream does
not support Python 2 (even with an hackish way) anymore.

Subject: kdevelop-python: Python 2 support missing
Package: kdevelop-python
Version: 1.7.0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I would like to use kdevelop to program/debug a larger application that
requires Python 2.7 (OpenERP/Odoo). Unfortunately, when I start debugging in
kdevelop I get the message "Sorry, debugging is only supported for Python 3.x
applications". Kdevelop-python is the only python plugin in Debian and supports
only python 3. When installing kdev-python from ubuntu I don't get this message
(although there are other problems). With python 2 still in widespread use this
is a major issue.

Lots of regards, Jacob.

When we packaged kdevelop-python years ago, we used the version that
supports Python 3 using the system libpython library. At that time
(kdevelop written using Qt4/kdelibs 4.x) upstream used to release also
a kdevelop-python version for Python 2, embedding a modified copy of
libpython, which is a big no-no for Debian.

Since the switch to Qt5/KDE Frameworks 5.x, upstream releases only
kdevelop-python for Python 3, and thus this is not possible anymore.
(Meanwhile, Python 2 is on its way for EOL, so at this point it should
be better to switch to Python 3 anyway...)

Thanks for your report,

Dear maintainers,

I am running Stretch with LXDE and do not have many Qt apps installed.
When I start KHangMan, the window is completely white, which renders it
unusable. Starting from a terminal, the following errors are written:

I finally made it working after installing manually these packages:

- qml-module-qtquick-layouts

- qml-module-qtquick-dialogs

Probably they should be installed as dependencies?

Using kscd to play an audio CD, you can click on the first button to turn
random on, but once you do so, you won't be able to turn it off. Quiting the

Bug#804764: closed by Pino Toscano (Re: Bug#804764: kdevelop-python: Python 2 support missing)

2018-01-05 Thread Jacob Kanev
Hi Pino,
thank you for the message. Switching to Python 2 is not an option, as our
company management system (OpenERP / odoo) is written in Python 2 and I cannot
rewrite that.
That said, I've switched to PyCharm which happily supports both 2 and 3.

Have a very nice week-end, all the best, Jacob.

Bug#886428: [kmail] Crashes on nouveau with mesa 17.3.1

2018-01-05 Thread gisl
Package: kmail
Version: 4:17.08.3-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
kmail, kontact and other applications using Qt's WebEngine crash when using
the nouveau Xorg driver and mesa 17.3.1.

The output is like this:
nouveau: kernel rejected pushbuf: No such file or directory
nouveau: ch25: krec 0 pushes 0 bufs 2 relocs 0
nouveau: ch25: buf 0002 0004 0004
nouveau: ch25: buf 0001 0006 0004 0004
*** KMail got signal 11 (Exiting)

Some search suggests that this is actually a well-known nouveau bug, which
occurs with multithreaded rendering.

Qt appears to have decided to disable GL with nouveau altogether for Qt 5.10:
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-41242
but for now, they suggest to set

QT_XCB_FORCE_SOFTWARE_OPENGL=1

as a workaround. So until nouveau is fixed, or Qt 5.10 released and packaged,
it may be sensible to
- document this somewhere, e.g. with apt-listchanges or
- try to detect the use of nouveau and automatically set the environment
variable, or
- use this ticket as documentation

Bug#886437: qt5core packaging breaks qDebug

2018-01-05 Thread David Faure
Package: libqt5core5a
Version: 5.9.0~beta+dfsg-1
Severity: important

As a fix for bug 805399, the file /etc/xdg/QtProject/qtlogging.ini was added to
disable debug output from Qt (using *.debug = false).

This fix breaks the developer experience, because it makes qDebug() do nothing
when working on a Qt application.

The way it's supposed to work is that KDE apps and libs are supposed to be
using categorized logging (qCDebug, qCWarning etc.), with severity "debug"
being disabled by default.
This way, the default category, the one used by qDebug(), should keep working.

Bug 805399 shows for instance this line:
org.kde.kded5[4940]: org.kde.kurifilter-shorturi: path = "xterm"
isLocalFullPath= false  exists= false  url= QUrl("xterm")

This comes from KIO (which I maintain). Investigation shows this one has been
fixed : since KDE Frameworks 5.23, the logging category is defined as
QLoggingCategory category("org.kde.kurifilter-shorturi", QtWarningMsg);
which means warnings (and above) are enabled by default, but debug is disabled
by default.

The debug messages from kioremote don't exist anymore since commit 2a3b74df
in plasma-workspace (the code has now moved to kio).

So, overall, I think the underlying issue is fixed, we're trying to be better
citizens by using qCDebug and by disabling debug output for all specific
categories (since Qt 5.4 which supports it).

Conclusion: please remove /etc/xdg/QtProject/qtlogging.ini again.
