Bug#586661: plasma-widget-folderview: incomplete displayed characters in folder view, widget's title
I wanted to add that i have a greek locale-enviroment. The problem appears when i drop a folder from my account's foldel to the desktop in order to create the folder-view widget. Then the widget will have as title 'Προσωπικός Φακελος(personal folder in greek)'->Folden name. But when i do the same for another folder not my personal one the problem doesnt appear. So could it be a problem with the greek characters displayed? Thanks. <>

All I can see is a white background, with some red squares with a white cross in them spread over the desktop. No widgets, no background, no menu, no task list... nothing at all. Not even an error message. If I press Alt+F2, the launcher window appears, but it doesn't work. Luckily for me, Yakuake loads automatically on startup, and from there I can launch my applications. Normal KDE applications, like KWrite or Dolphin, seem to be working fine, so it looks like a desktop issue. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (300, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ca_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ca_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop depends on: ii kdebase-apps 4:4.4.3-1 base applications from the officia ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.4.4-1 runtime components from the offici ii kdebase-workspace 4:4.4.4-1 base workspace components from the ii plasma-desktop4:4.4.4-1 The KDE Plasma workspace for deskt Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop recommends: ii kdm 4:4.4.4-1 KDE Display Manager for X11 ii xserver-xorg 1:7.5+6the X.Org X server Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop suggests: ii kde-l10n-ca [kde-l10n]4:4.4.3-1 Catalan (ca) localization files fo -- no debconf information --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: kde4libs Source-Version: 4:4.4.4-2 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of kde4libs, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: kde4libs_4.4.4-2.debian.tar.gz to main/k/kde4libs/kde4libs_4.4.4-2.debian.tar.gz kde4libs_4.4.4-2.dsc to main/k/kde4libs/kde4libs_4.4.4-2.dsc kdelibs-bin_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/kdelibs-bin_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb kdelibs5-data_4.4.4-2_all.deb to main/k/kde4libs/kdelibs5-data_4.4.4-2_all.deb kdelibs5-dbg_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/kdelibs5-dbg_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb kdelibs5-dev_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/kdelibs5-dev_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb kdelibs5-plugins_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/kdelibs5-plugins_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb kdelibs5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/kdelibs5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb kdoctools_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/kdoctools_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkde3support4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkde3support4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkdecore5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkdecore5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkdesu5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkdesu5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkdeui5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkdeui5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkdewebkit5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkdewebkit5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkdnssd4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkdnssd4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkfile4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkfile4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkhtml5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkhtml5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkimproxy4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkimproxy4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkio5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkio5_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkjsapi4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkjsapi4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkjsembed4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkjsembed4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkmediaplayer4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkmediaplayer4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libknewstuff2-4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libknewstuff2-4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libknewstuff3-4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libknewstuff3-4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libknotifyconfig4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libknotifyconfig4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkntlm4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkntlm4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkparts4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkparts4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb libkpty4_4.4.4-2_amd64.deb to main/k/kde4libs/libkpty4_4.4.4-2_am

This breaks any KDE app using libraries installed into a custom prefix (like $HOME/myapp) as then those shared libs are not found anymore. IIRC the reason this was done was because apps installed into /usr shouldn't have any RPATH set. There was a related discussion on the kde-buildsystem list and (again IIRC) the outcome was that recent versions of cmake only set setup the RPATH when the install prefix of the libraries is not /usr. Hence the applied patch should be removed again so that people can build and install KDE apps from sources again without fiddling with cmake files or cmake's cache.
