Unfortunately I didn't see this mail before uploading it, otherwise I would have waited a bit to make sure it builds against the new exiv2 everywhere. The problem in KMix is that it doesn't save the volume level, although the volume is always at maximum (I set it with alsamixer). The volume is showed always at 0%, and I can't change it using any of the KMix controls like PCM, Front or Master. Changing volume from inside applications works, and the same is for alsamixer. I noticed that if I compile from source the alsa drivers from the official website, KMix starts to work again, so I'm thinking it's probably a configuration file not configured properly, or something similar. As far as I remember, I encountered this problem in alsa 1.0.14 for the first time (but maybe it's just because I bought a new motherboard). I wasn't sure whether I should report this bug for a KDE package rather than alsa, since the problem actually seems to be in some ALSA config. Bug#526776: kde-minimal: Battery widget should have an option to permantely display the percentage
Package: kde-minimal Version: 5:50 Severity: wishlist Hi, I've got a bug report from a usability perspective. On my laptop I have setup the KDE 4 battery widget/plasma thing to sit in the systemtray area. That's great and all, and the visual depiction of the battery level is nice. What I've noticed myself and others doing is running the mouse cursor over the icon to find out the current perspective. Some, if not most people, seem to want the exactly percentage information on the battery at all times. Bug#526779: battery-applet: Misleads about still charging
Package: kde-minimal Version: 5:50 Severity: wishlist I've noticed that the battery widget in KDE 4 that sits in the taskbar misleads the users about when a battery is still being charged or not. Take this example with how 'kpowersave' from KDE 3.5 had more user friendly behaviour: When running on battery, you got a battery icon. When running on AC and not charging, you got the plug icon. When running on AC and charing, you got the plug icon with an elecriticy symbol. This was all VERY clear to the enduser what was going on with their battery. For mosts laptops it was ideal behaviour because once your battery was no longer charging and the machine running on just AC, that was system feedback that most people needed. Compare this to the behaviour of the revised widget: When running on battery, you get a battery icon. When running on AC and no charging, you get the battery icon with an electricity symbol. When running on AC and charging, you get the battery icon with an electricity symbol. I heartly suggest rethinking this widget. It is better that kpowersave in many ways but it's essential role, reporting accurate power information for batteries and states, appears to have not been thought through. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages kde-minimal depends on: ii kdebase 4:4.2.2-1 base applications from the officia ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.2.2-1 runtime components from the offici ii kdebase-workspace 4:4.2.2-2 base workspace components from the ii kdelibs5 4:4.2.2-2 core libraries for all KDE 4 appli ii kdepimlibs5 4:4.2.2-1 core libraries for KDE PIM 4 appli kde-minimal recommends no packages. Bug#493458: Fixed upstream
tag 493458 fixed-upstream thanks From the following comment in upstream's bugtracker, this bug is fixed and scheduled for kde 4.3.0. --- Comment #23 From Detlev Casanova 2009-04-29 16:26:38 --- This has been fixed in SVN since some times now (Olivier did that when he updated iris IIRC) As it is a new feature since the release of KDE 4.2, you will have to wait for KDE 4.3 or use the latest SVN version. If you use SVN, be careful that there is still a possibility to use the old protocol (xmpp09). That option is by default set to false but an old configuration file could make Kopete still use the old protocol. The reason of support of the old protocol is simply because some servers don't implement the new protocol yet. Unfortunately, they are not part of the same line of text that shows the buddies' names. Solution: It would be great if the status icons were made part of the same line of text as my friends' nicknames, so the base of the status icon was aligned with the base of the nickname line. That way, I could fit more friends onscreen at once. Note: This would make buddy icons (display photos) shrink. Bug#526257: libqtgui4: major gfx mem corruption
On Sunday 03 May 2009 19:30:38 Didier Raboud wrote: > I had such corruptions and I just upgraded my xserver-xorg-video-intel to > 2:2.7.99.1-1 from experimental and they seem to have disappeared. > > Do you use Intel Graphics hardware ? It might be worth trying this version… Thanks for the hint. Yes, my main laptop is running Intel hardware (X calls this "Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller rev 7"). However, I've also seen the same type of corruption on a desktop (nVidia running a recent git nouveau drivers) and on another (old) laptop (ATI Radeon Mobility [something]). So, I'm surprised that a hardware driver update fixed the problem (you're sure none of the X client libraries or server-side components were also updated, right?). I'm running 2.6.29 kernel on these machines, so perhaps it might be fallout from this mode-switching support in the kernel (although that's wild speculation). Anyway, I'm currently on a business trip so I'd rather not fiddle too much as I need the laptop to be functional (albeit, with a slightly annoying problem). I'll try to look into the upgrade when I'm back. Cheers, Paul. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
