qmake adds -L/usr/lib to (the beginning of) LIBS. This is unneeded, and
actually causes many problems.

Hi,

I don't know when was introduced SUBLIBS but qmake now adds SUBLIBS at the
beginning of LIBS before -L/usr/lib.
You can set SUBLIBS to add your own paths.

Since 4.2 got in testing, my Qt based apps don't show anti-aliased fonts
anymore. Please check this out, it looks so ancient now... Thanks.

It doesn't seem to occur on all fonts, though. But the fonts in the
menus are not AA anymore, at least. (E.g. in Qt Assistant.)

Whenever I try to use QHash or QSet (which is built from QHash) I get a
billion warnings from qhash.h like the following:

/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qhash.h:236: instantiated from ‘void
QHash::detach() [with Key = int, T = QHashDummyValue]’
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qhash.h:711: instantiated from ‘void
QHash::reserve(int) [with Key = int, T = QHashDummyValue]’
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qset.h:146: instantiated from ‘void
QSet::reserve(int) [with T = int]’
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qset.h:204: instantiated from ‘QSet
QList::toSet() const [with T = int]’
example.cpp:194: instantiated from here
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qhash.h:477: warning: dereferencing type-punned
pointer will break strict-aliasing rules

The line of my actual code is usually when I'm doing something very
simple, like using operator[]. The same exact code replacing QHash for
QMap always gets rid of the warning.

Unfortunately, this isn't even a workaround, because QSet always uses
QHash, so to get a list of unique keys from a multimap:

QList keys = multimap.keys().toSet()

This also results in the warning quoted above.

Anyway, the problem appears to be in the QHash detach_helper method,
where it does a lot of reinterpret casting and then deferences a
pointer. I haven't yet investigated what needs to be done to fix this code.

I assume the /usr/share/qt4 dir is there to mimic the original qt sources.
i needed such a dir for a --with-qtdir option, but had to manually add
a link to /usr/lib and /usr/bin/uic3.
If my assumption is correct, than I thing this is missing in this directory.

Best regards,

Koos Vriezen

--- End Message ---
--- Begin Message ---
Hi Koos,

the assumption is wrong. Under Debian (and some other distributions), Qt
doesn't use a single directory for its installation (indeed, FHS compliant):
[...]
-prefix "/usr" \
-bindir "/usr/bin" \
-libdir "/usr/lib" \
-docdir "/usr/share/qt4/doc" \
-headerdir "/usr/include/qt4" \
-datadir "/usr/share/qt4" \
-plugindir "/usr/lib/qt4/plugins" \
-translationdir "/usr/share/qt4/translations" \
-sysconfdir "/etc/xdg" \
-demosdir "/usr/lib/qt4/demos" \
-examplesdir "/usr/lib/qt4/examples" \
[...]

If you want to use --with-qtdir, I guess you must set it to /usr otherwise
pkgconfig is the preferred method.

cheers,

Fathi

Hi,

We have splitted Qt4 packages and reduced fetched packages.
As we don't want to put qmake in his own package (discussed on the bug
report), I tag it wontfix.

cheers,

Fathi

Reading from MySQL columns of type TEXT to QString, e.g.
query.value(col).toString(), produces trailing garbage characters to be
included in the string. The same compiled code works flawless, if the column
type is changed to VARCHAR, e.g. by alter table profile change val val
VARCHAR(255); in mysql.

I bypassed the issue backporting Qt 4.3.3 from lenny as can be seen from the
configuration below (libqt4-core). This also resolves the issue from
#409937.

Hi,

you assumption is wrong.

Helevtica font doesn't exist unde Debian
You can check installed fonts packages using a console:
dpkg -l |grep ttf

You need at least ttf-dejavu.

Under qtconfig-qt4 -> fonts -> Family, you can change fonts.
"Sample Text" must change accordingly.
File Menu -> Save (or Ctrl+S) must refresh Qt configuration user interface.

cheers,

Bug#406561: Split libqt4-dev to non-x11 and x11 parts

Hi,

> I think, that no. Since last libqt4-dev package (4.4.0 from unstable)
> still depends on libx11-dev and other X11 stuff).

No, libqt4-dev doesn't depends on libx11-dev.
You must have apt default behavior: install recommends.

You can drop a file in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ with:
APT::Install-Recommends "false";

On a fresh install:
# apt-get install libqt4-dev
[...]
Need to get 40.9MB of archives.
After this operation, 133MB of additional disk space will be used.

cheers,

Fathi

Bug#499528: kate: some Vietnamese characters not displayed when utf-8 encoding is selected

2008-09-19 Thread clayton
Package: kate
Version: 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-5
Severity: normal

On this page http://blog.langex.net/index.cgi/Vietnam/dsl_broadband.html
you will find some Vietnamese words on the first two bulleted lines on
the subject of "account ID" and "password". I edited this pyBlosxom blog
entry using kate. When I pasted the Vietnamese words into kate (with
utf-8 encoding selected) all of the letter 'a' with the additional
markings on them, four in all, were rendered as little boxes in kate.
The only 'a' that was visible was the unmarked one in the word 'ban'. As
you can see from the final web page, the characters stored in the text
file are correct. kate's rendering is not.

Hi Tobias

QKeySequence, like many other Qt class require an instance of
QApplication. (I see no mention of this in the current documentation,
bue we will document that)
That mean that you need to construct QKeySequence after the
QApplication.

In general, it's not recommanded to have global static object like this.

(You could maybe use the internal Q_GLOBAL_STATIC_WITH_ARGS macro
defined in qglobal.h, documented in qglobal.cpp)

Global static C++ objects with constructor have some issues.
The order of their constructions is undefined. They slow down the
startup time of the application. They doesn't work nice with shared
library. And some old compiler (such as GCC 3) might fail to initialize
them at all.

Yes, this sounds like a good solution.

Bug#499540: [kmail] crashes while fetching new ,ail from pop3-server

2008-09-19 Thread Helmut Pozimski
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.5.9-5
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I am using kmail on an amd64-machine with Debian lenny and three
pop3-accounts. (two over SSL one without) From time to time when kmail is
fetching new mail from one of the servers it crashes unexpectedly and leaves
the following backtrace. (see attachment) After restarting kmail everything
works again but the mails that were fetched before the crash are doubled in
the inbox. Unfortunately, the crash seems not to be easily reproducible, it
happens every few weeks but I really can't determine anything extraordinary
at the point of time when kmail crashes because of this.

Why are you closing the bug? There is no explanation!

Anyway, here's an interesting IRC session:

Hi, is it normal that a Qt app looks bad on my GNOME system,
in the sense that the fonts are not anti-aliased? (All other fonts are.)

Quibus: http://pastebin.com/m7a39e433 add this to ~/.fonts.conf

The contents of the file:

   true

   hintfull

   true

can you give some explanation why this is necessary?
maybe you have also to remove the rgba stuff (rgb -> none) if
you don't want to have subpixel antialiasing

Can you give me the somewhat longer answer? :-)
because GNOME suck^W doesn't use .fonts.conf (as every other
toolkit that uses fontconfig do) , but keeps its font antialiasing
configuration somewhere in its windows registr^W^W gconf stuff

   so far for freedesktop.org standards?
   Anyway, thanks peppe
maybe with Qt4.5 and QGtkStyle this behaviour will end, but
if I use another toolkit that uses freetype, I won't get antialiased
fonts on that
I don't know which one is "correct" by freedesktop.org
standards, but saying "yeah, keeping configuration in GConf is the
standard" is a bit strange

Anyway, this did fix the problem (again) for me. Might be a good idea to
keep this information alive, as it isn't documented on a clear
location... (AFAIK).
