Cant's see any ntfs-tools in debian etch repository, ntftprogs it's the same
package renamed? It contains tool for managing ntfs filesystems, but not for
any type of configuration, so i guess not...
Thanks

Bug#491086: xcursor-themes

2008-07-25 Thread Alan BRASLAU
Installing xcursor-themes (and selecting core.theme) straightens things out:
Now, selecting the default cursor theme (called "KDE classic" !) indeed gives
the standard X-cursor theme (or whatever is chosen in /etc/alternatives/x-
cursor-theme). So is this a KDE bug or a bug in the debian implementation of
KDE?
A possible solution to the present reported bug would be to make kdebase-
workspace-data depend on xcursor-themes; this is probably better than
transforming the oxygencursors dependence into a suggestion...

I'm not sure what kdm is doing, as I have not taken a look at the source code.
However, I see the following in /var/log/kdm.log

GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory)

[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For
the first word, TAB lists possible command
completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible
 completions of a device/filename. ]
grub> savedefault --default=5 --once
grub>

so I see that kdm seems to run grub, and not edit menu.lst or some other hack.

> Let's reassign this bug; later it can be moved back to GRUB if necessary.

The grub and kdm maintainers are much more competent than I. However, I can
investigate more if no-one else is aware of the problem or cannot reproduce.
It's a bit time-consuming, so for the moment I am simply avoiding using this
feature - I'll stick to rebooting into linux :)

One thing I didn't notice before I asked you to get commit access and commit
was that you reintroduced the development packages with .h files and .so dev
symlinks.
Upstream doesn't consider that part of it enough stable, so we shouldn't ship
it yet.

You should save the case, so that you neither need to insert on a sendmail,
nor can ever remove a GPU, so that from the preferences inside Word 92 you
either must mount a ISDN space bar on the RO cache over the desktop, or should
never install on a Ultra 2D line for getting access on the OpenGL FPU over a

My summary:

We found savedefault feature to be buggy and dangerous. Because of this it
is disabled now in update-grub. This problem is most likely just a result
  of kdm enabling it.

Since this chunk of code is basicaly unmaintained upstream, I don't expect
that it will be fixed in the Legacy version of GRUB (specially, not in
  time for lenny).

We intend to re-enable this functionality in GRUB 2 shortly. In the meantime
I recommend that you avoid using it in GRUB Legacy. For kdm, it'd probably
be a good idea to disable this feature for now.

thanks

Here is a tested patch to solve the issue. It also require a fix in
usplash (#492407) to work properly, but with those two fixes in place,
usplash stop as it should before kdm is started, and the boot work as
it should in Debian Edu.

Package: kdebase-runtime
Severity: serious
Version: 4:4.0.82+svn819867-1

Hi,

while it is admirable to provide detailed information about copyright
holders and licensing, it makes not updating debian/copyright almost
always a bad idea when adding source code (admittedly, this seems hard
as long as KDE4 stays as much of a moving target as it seems to be at
the moment).
It seems that (at least) the version of kdebase-runtime currently in
experimental needs some attention.
Keep up the good work!

Kind regards

T.
