BUG in ark and / or tar
Hi, I am using latest Debian Sid (=tar 1.19-2, ark 4:3.5.9-1, bzip2 1.04-2). Trying to produce a tar.bz2 file with ark I get the following error although the produced archive is OK: "Das Hinzufügen ist fehlgeschlagen (i. e. the addition has failed). (list of files of the chosen directory to be transformed into a tar.bz2 file follows). 1. Can you please reproduce that error? 2. Can someone of you please fix that stupid bug avoiding senseless discussions? I already mentioned that bug some months ago. Above some complete senseless troll bla bla bla discussion with some Bdale Garbee absolutely zero nothing happened! That cannot be true, can it? Guess there is something wrong with you guys!! Hope that I am adressing some real non-troll maintainer now! Regards Uwe P. S. 1: Changelog.Debian in the Debian ark package isn't readable at all. Who cares? P. S. 2: With version 1.18 of tar the error DOES NOT HAPPEN. Although knowing that for months now Mr. Bdale Garbee did absolutely NOTHING to solve the problem or fix the bug.
Bug#469783: libqt4-dev: Please add qtdemo back and provide the examples

Please reconsider. For the record, the issue was just discussed on #irc with one of the package maintainers who, despite my pleading, could nor or would not supply a single argument in favour of the current packaging practise. Not good. To re-iterate, here is of copy of my part of the conversation, indented to 80 cols [09:12] Ok: qtdemo [09:13] Could we pretty please get it into Debian? [09:13] Upstream refers to it, and the principle of least surprise holds -- we should provide it for our users. [09:14] * pusling don't see much use for it, but maybe. [09:14] Please do. [09:15] I have the pleasure of working with a lot of dudes who use Windows first. So to promote cross-platform work, sane libraries etc I push Qt [09:15] And qtdemo is really nice. On Windoze, it is of course 'right there'. So people can 'just see' examples, demos and code. And LOTS of them. [09:16] On Debian, it builds trivially -- but you NEED TO KNOW that you have to look inside /usr/share/doc/libt4-dev [09:16] That is NOT OBVIOUS to people new to Linux or Debian. Don't do it. [09:16] If you can, please split off a new package qt4-demo (or whatever title you please) and put the demos and examples and qtdemo binary in there. [09:17] I, as a maintainer, always package my library example, and even regression tests ... because I as a coder like to see examples provided by upstream -- as they do know the code better than I do. [09:18] End of plea :) Not to beat a dead horse, but Trolltech upstream also expects qtdemo to be part of the shipped documentation. We are doing our users a disservice. In our email exchange of late October, I agreed that the behavior of tar had changed, but indicated that the change was apparently intentional and thus tools like ark that use tar must be updated to account for the change. I asked you if you had filed a bug against the ark package and you said in email of 31 October: > I already filed a bug against ark, but did not get any response. There's nothing unusual about bug reports not getting an immediate response, so I gave this no more thought. However, I cannot today find any evidence that you actually filed such a bug in the Debian bug tracking system about this issue. Did you file it somewhere else? > Although knowing that for months now Mr. Bdale Garbee did absolutely NOTHING > to solve the problem or fix the bug. I'm sorry you don't appreciate the time I put into investigating your problem and responding to your emails. I have no responsibility to fix bugs in software like ark that I don't even use, and calling me names certainly doesn't make me care more about your problem. Bug#468191: further information
I just recognized that it does not matter what option I set in: kcontrol -> Desktop -> Windows Behavior -> Advanced -> Active Desktop Borders I can choose any option, switch back, press apply and every screen has its own boarders for moving/maximize windows. Can anybody tell me what function is behind that option? Greetings -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is my second mail to make the responsible people aware that there should be some change, that there should be somebody raising his ass and eliminate that goddam fucking bug now. And me I do not want to continue talking without any changes in the end. And me I care a goddamn shit whether the maintainer of ark or the maintainer of tar is responsible - I JUST WANT THIS SHIT TO BE FIXED - IS THAT CLEAR NOW, BDALE??? > > > Although knowing that for months now Mr. Bdale Garbee did absolutely > > NOTHING to solve the problem or fix the bug. > > I'm sorry you don't appreciate the time I put into investigating your > problem and responding to your emails. Re: BUG in ark and / or tar
Uwe, mind your language!!! You have no right to offend people who sacrifice their time and efforts to make the software you use, be it buggy or not. Until you learn to behave yourself and apologize before Bdale, I blacklist your postings to both my private and tar bug-reporting addresses. Hope my colleagues will do the same. -Sergey -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

PS It would be nice if you could change debian/rules to set -demosdir "/usr/share/qt4/demos" \ -examplesdir "/usr/share/qt4/examples" \ as the current qmake binary has the rather awkward paths /usr/demos /usr/examples preset given thet prefix=/usr.
