Bug#454927: kdebase: KDE fails to start due to ~/.kde/share/config/kcminputrc

2007-12-08 Thread vesse
Package: kdebase
Version: 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-2
Severity: normal

After doing dist-upgrade yesterday KDE failed to start. When splash screen
showed that it is loading the desktop, screen went black and returned to
the login prompt (can't remeber if X restarted).

After file-by-file copying of my original ~/.kde I found out that using a
fresh ~/.kde/share/config/kcminputrc fixed the problem. I haven't manually
edited the file ever, so I would have expected it to work after
dist-upgrade.

This is what I had in kcminputrc originally:
-
[$Version]
update_info=mouse_cursor_theme.upd:kde3.4.99

[Keyboard]
ClickVolume=0
KeyboardRepeating=true
NumLock=0
RepeatDelay=660
RepeatRate=25

[Mouse]
cursorTheme=
-

And this is what it contained after clean first login:
-
[$Version]
update_info=mouse_cursor_theme.upd:kde3.4.99
-

Dear maintainers,

this is my bugreport:

Bug 1: Kmail does not delete Mails in folder trash. It is looking so, as it
does,
but in real it does not ! The file ~/Mail/trash should have the size of
zero if the trash was fully emptied, but in real, the mails stay in this
file. So the file is growing during the months and may be sometimes too big.
Additionally there is a security problem with it, as the user is believing,
he had deleted all (private or serious) mails, but in real, they are NOT.

Bug 2: relating to the above problem, kmail crashes, when trying to
empty the "sent-mail" folder.

I suppose, there might be the same reason for both bugs. I wondered:
~/Mail/drafts has the rights 644, while the other ones have the rights 0600.
I am the owner of all files, and never manually changed the rights. Which
one is correct ?

Regards

Hans

Hi,

inspired by a recent mail to d-d-announce
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2007/08/msg0.html):
Debian policy says that only those packages should be recommended by
a package that 'would be found together with this one [the recommending
package] in all but unusual installations'.

I don't think that using kmail without procmail
is unusual, so please consider only suggesting this package in
kmails dependency fields. Thanks!

Cheers,

Wolf

Bug#455001: Add "Suggests: konsole" - is needed by "Terminal" tab in kate

2007-12-08 Thread Richard Atterer
Package: kate
Version: 4:3.5.7.dfsg.1-1
Severity: minor

Hello,

When clicking on the "Terminal" tab in kate, only a grey area without
content appears if konsole is not installed. Please suggest konsole in
the kate package! Alternatively, it would be nice if there were some
feedback about the lack of konsole, e.g. an error message in that grey
area when one tries to open the terminal tab without success. I first
installed kterm and didn't realize for a while that kate really wanted
konsole instead of kterm.

(FWIW, I'm a Gnome user, that's why only a minimal set of KDE packages
is installed on my machine.)

Cheers,

  Richard

Bug#455060: akregator isn't able to fetch and show images in offline mode

2007-12-08 Thread paulasimoes
Package: akregator
Version: 4:3.5.7enterprise20070926-0ubuntu2
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Akregator is a pretty cool feeds reader, but it doesn't fetch the embedded
images, so when someones using it in offline more they won't be able to see
those images.

My suggestion is the implementation of an option in akregator so users can
choose if they want the images to be downloaded (and then shown) or not.

Thank you,
Paula Simões

Bug#455094: ark: extracts at half the speed of equivalent command-line tool

2007-12-08 Thread Jean-Marc Ranger
Package: ark
Version: 4:3.5.7-3
Severity: normal

Using kde desktop' "extract" contextual menu to decompress tbz2 files take
roughly twice as long as the equivalent tar xjf command. Top reports three
related running processes: ark, using roughly 50% CPU; bunzip2 also around 50%
and tar around 2%.
Noticed on a P3-850.
I know that the GUI animation comes with a cost, but 50% CPU seems abusive.
