Bug#397814: kopete/ICQ - Serverside Buddylist isn't downloaded

2006-11-09 Thread A. Boeswald
Package: Kopete
Version: 4:3.5.5-1

Kopete connects to the ICQ-Network and I can use all ICQ-Features.
But Kopete does _not_ load the Buddy-List from the ICQ-Server.
However I get all the groups I've added.

Other Clients (gaim/ICQ2Go) work well.

There seems to be a solution here:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136566

Maybe the debian/KDE-Team could write a patch for the debian-Package?

THX

Thanks for the backtrace. I spent a while yesterday trying to figure out
how the line of code that crashes could be reached, and I can't see a way
for it to happen. I also can't reproduce the crash no matter how hard I
try, so I can't catch it in the debugger.

Could you please send your ~/.kde/share/config/knetwalkrc to the bug report?

Re: C-only poppler API

2006-11-09 Thread Hubert Chan
Here is a rough list of classes (and their methods), functions, and
constants from poppler 0.4 that are currently being used by
PopplerKit. (I think this is a more or less complete list. poppler
doesn't use a prefix for their classes, so sometimes it's hard to spot
them.)

GooString
  GooString(const char *)
PDFDoc
  PDFDoc(path_g, NULL, NULL);
  ~PDFDoc()
  isOK()
  getErrorCode()
  getNumPages()
  getXRef()
  getCatalog()
Catalog
  getPage(index)
globalParams
  globalParams(NULL)
  setupBaseFontsFc(NULL)
CairoOutputDev
  CairoOutputDev()
  ~CairoOutputDev()
  startDoc(XRef*)
  setSurface(cairo_surface_t *)
Page
  displaySlice(... long argument list ...)
  getRotate()
  getWidth()
  getHeight()
  display(... long argument list ...)
TextOutputDev
  TextOutputDev(NULL, use_phys_layout, use_raw_text_order, append)
  ~TextOutputDev()
  findText(...)
SplashOutputDev
  SplashOutputDev(splashModeRGB8, gFalse, white)
  ~SplashOutputDev()
  startDoc(XRef*)
  getBitmap()
SplashBitmap
  getWidth()
  getHeight()
  getDataPtr()
SplashColor
  rgb8
SplashRGB8
splashMakeRGB8
splashModeRGB8

Well, it seems like nobody in the GNUstep camp is able to give much
insight into requirements for a stable API. My guess is that as long
as upstream tries to keep these functions stable, and is able to
provide porting help if something breaks, then we should be OK.

PopplerKit just needs to provide functionality to display and to
search. It looks like that's all represented here, so I think that's
all we really need.

When two windows or more are open on a desktop, most often when they
overlap (such as a child window for an app or a dialog box), window focus
switches rapidly between windows. I used sloppy focus, and tried switching
to focus follows mouse. When this occurs, CPU load goes to 100%, with the
xorg process eating up most of it.

I switched over to gnome and it does not display this behavior. It has
happened on two x86 machines and has only happened since I dist-upgraded
to 3.5.4/3.5.5. I note that some of the packages installed are 3.5.4 and
some are 3.5.5, so this problem may go away when the rest of KDE is
upgraded.

When kmail starts and a gpg encrypted message is determined to be the first
message to display it has to get a GPG pass phrase before it can do anything
useful.

When kmail is configured to display a "tip of the day" on startup the tip
window will be on top of the gpg pass-phrase window. However the gpg window
will have keyboard focus, and it will be impossible to close the tip window
or to select any other option on the tip window, it is necessary to click on
the "OpenPGP Security Check" icon in the task bar to bring it to the foreground
before anything else can be done with kmail.

This is annoying for experts, and will probably be an unsolvable problem for
novice users.

I use kmail to read mail from an local imap server (uw-imapd), the
format is mbox. Over night there is an archiving/deleting job on the
server which deletes some mails from the mbox folder.

If i get new mail and open such an folder with kmail, the information
about sender,subject,date and content is first shown correctly and well
sorted by thread. If i select then a new (or old) mail, the
sender,subject...and content of this message is from an totally other
mail which is probably from an total other thread.

This must be an index problem. I used kmail sometimes from kde 3.2 and i
think this problem (for me) is new in kde 3.3. The version from 3.2 ex.
does a "Cleaning" after exiting kmail. The new version don't do this
AFAIK.

With this bug kmail for me is useless while the only way to fix this
problem is to recreate the local cache, so i lost some important settings
for folders.

Also deleting settings in ~/.kde for kmail (settings,cache) or using a
fresh user does'nt solve. After the first outside action on the imap
folder kmail runs in the above problem.

Greetings
Gerhard

I tried to access my mailbox via IMAP with my config which worked so far
(until I upgraded to experimental). Now I successfully get the messages
list, but the content of a mail is not displayed and kmail doesn't
respond to any actions.
A 'ps axw' gives some processes which don't show up before kontact/kmail
is started. They exist for a long time, and the 'kio_imap4' doesn't
vanish at all without invoking a 'kill -9' Here's the list of related
processes:

 snip ---
8470 ?S  0:00 kio_imap4 [kdeinit] imap

   /tmp/ksocket-frschorer/klaunchereVxwXa.slave-socket
   /tmp/ksocket-frschorer/kont

- snip -

After a while only the first kio_file process and the first kio_imap4
process exist, the others die without any action. They have to be killed
with 'kill -9'. This results in a message box telling me that the
process for imap://some.host.example has been terminated unexpectedly.

The IMAP server is contacted via TLS with PLAIN auth (tested via conf
window and worked so far).

Pls let me know if you need more info which I could provide. I'll be
happy helping to track this down.

Best regards & many thanks für your work,

Friedemann

 use kmail as frontend for my imap mail. Right after startup it collects
 mailheaders and then freezes with the failure:

 This makes kmail unuseable for me. I found the following at the web:

KMail sometimes hangs for a certain amount of time (maybe about 30
seconds but it's possible that I err here). I think, this problem
started after upgrading to this very version. The freezes happen in
various situations - when sending an e-mail, when scrolling through a
mail message in the main window, etc., etc. KMail doesn't crash, it's
just that I have to wait for a rather long time until KMail continuous
to work as expected again.

I don't know what other information to provide at the moment. If you
want more, please tell me exactly what information you want and how to
provide it.

KNotes does not apply the text color selected in the settings dialog to
the body of notes. Create a new note. Enter some text into it's body.
Open the settings dialog of the note, then select dark blue background
and yellow text. The title will appear in yellow on dark blue, but the
text will be black on dark blue that is not so readable.

After a sleep/resume cicle on my powerbook, the imap connection on kmail
is down, means I can't read email on the imap server I was connected
with. With pop3 server I have no problems. Next the MSN module of kopete
is also lost. And third artsd eat my CPU 98% and after a while I become
an error telling me that artsd has an fatal error or is too busy. To get
rid of this stuff I have to kit my KDE session and restart it. I ask on
the debian-powerpc mailling list and they tell me that this was no
kernel or pbbuttonsd bug (pbbuttonsd is the power management daemon for
powerbooks). I'm running a 2.6.11 self compile kernel from debian kernel
source package, which is support sleep/resume on powerbooks.
Please ask me for further information.

This bug is present since a few versions of KMail.

Scenario : you have an email with an OpenOffice attachment. You click on the
attachment, but since OpenOffice is so long to load, you go back to KMail
while OpenOffice is still loading and click on the next unread email.

Then, OpenOffice finishes to load up and tries to load your file. But, because
KMail deleted the temporary file containing the attachment when you loaded
your next unread email, OpenOffice says that it cannot find the file and
closes itself... very irritating.

A very simple solution to this problem would be to delete the temporary file
when KMail is beeing closed.

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.4.2-2
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Since I upgraded KDE to 3.4.x, I'm getting unpleasant crashes on various KDE
applications
but the most serious, because of the frecuency in which it happens is kmail.

The worst part is that, as kmail is compiled without debuging symbols, I can't
debug
much on what's happening, and all I have are the signals with which it dies (4
"Illegal
Instruction", and 11 "Invalid memory reference").

*** KMail got signal 11 (Crashing)
KCrash: Application 'kmail' crashing...

And this doesn't happen when doing something especifically. For example, if I
type to fast
when composing, it sometimes crashes. Also I got crashes when configuring kmail
or filters.

Just a moment ago konsole died with no reason, and I wasn't even doing anything
with it.

KCrash: Application 'konsole' crashing...

This is very annoying.

KMail crashed when clearing several thousand messages from the local Trash
maildir folder. I haven't able to start KMail since the crash, since it
freezes and eats 100% CPU on startup. I narrowed down this in time: KMail
indexes maildir folders (index files are regenerated if deleted), then eats
100% CPU before displaying it's main window. No disk activity during the
freeze. The kmail process can be killed with normal SIGTERM: killall kmail

I narrowed down this further. I've backed up my maildir folder and ~/.kde,
then deleted the contents of my mailbox. KMail regenerated the default maildir
structure, then freezed up. Then the maildir is restored and the
~/.kde/share/apps/kmail folder is deleted. KMail freezes again regardless of
the deleted configuration files. After deleting ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc
it did not freeze again, just started to reconfigure itself and asked the
usual user-specific post-installation questions.

I guess kmail is freezing due to an unusal value/syntax in it's kmailrc.
I'm going to attach my kmailrc to this bug as additional information after
submiting this report.

Thanks for your help, Viktor

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.2.2-2
Severity: normal

For a few versions of kmail (if I remember clean it happened also
on 3.1 KDE versions) I've found rather annoying bug.
When I close my system with `shutdown` command, from time to time
~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/lock still remains, which prevents kmail
from being started on next system startup until I delete lock file
manually.
What have I tried:
- disabled all cleanings on exit in kmail options
- tried to give more time between signals to kmail (-t switch of
shutdown)
Neither of them worked for me.

I am not sure, but does kmail removes its lock file on which signal?
SIGKILL, SIGTERM? If on the first one, it can be the issue.

Kmail has now a dialog box if there is stale lockfiles where you can confirm
that kmail is indeed not started.

and runnig the 'shutdown' command is not a clean exit where kmail should have
any chance of cleaning properly.

Package: kaddressbook
Version: 4:3.2.3-1

The package depends on libbluetooth1 and on libgnokii2. But kaddressbook can
be usefull without having bluetooth or a nokia handy.

I suggest to change these dependencies into recommendations or in case this is
not possible to split the package in two packages
kaddressbook
and
kaddressbook-gnokii-bluetooth

  Package: hello
  Version: 1.3-16

  When I invoke `hello' without arguments from an ordinary shell
  prompt it prints `goodbye', rather than the expected `hello, world'.
  Here is a transcript:

  $ hello
  goodbye
  $ /usr/bin/hello
  goodbye
  $

  I suggest that the output string, in hello.c, be corrected.

  I am using Debian GNU/Linux 2.2, kernel 2.2.17-pre-patch-13
  and libc6 2.1.3-10.

--- End Message ---

kaddressbook needs to be compiled with the support of those in order to be
able to use it.
If support for bluetooth and gnokii is compiled in, but it does not have the
libraries around, it will fail starting.

I am closing this bugreport.

The system tray icon occasionally disappears, even though I have
enabled it in the settings. It doesn't seem to matter whether I select
"always on" or only when there is new mail (and there is, in fact, new
mail).

When it disappears, if I close the Kmail window, the only way to get
back to Kmail is to restart the application. However there is a kmail
process running all the time.

To get the system tray icon back, I need to change the settings, first
turning the icon off, press "apply", then turn it on again and apply
again.

Package: kdeartwork-style
Version: 4:3.3.2-1
Severity: minor

The connecting lines in treeviews are the same color as background when
using the solaris colorsheme and therefor invisible. This problem also
exists in later KDE-versions.

Screenshots are avaiable at
http://www.robgri.de/solaris.png (colorsheme solaris; lines invisible)
http://www.robgri.de/plastik.png (colorsheme plastik; lines visible)

TIA,

Rob

kcalc no longer crashes when converting huge numbers from decimal to hex -
it just sets the number to 0. kcalc only handles hex numbers up to 2^64-1.
If you really want the hex representation of 255!, you can reopen this bug
and set it to wishlist severity.
