Bug#321102: Further plans for possible data-loss bug in kmail

Being friendly and poking a bit to people on irc made one come up with a
partly patch. Now, creating new dIMAP-accounts in kmail is disabled thru the
user interface.

It is, although, still possible to create dIMAP accounts if you hand-edit the
configuration files. You need to be more skilled than normal to create your
config files yourself. For those who really want it, removing the patch and
rebuilding kmail would be easier.

THis means that there still might need to be found some solution for existing
dIMAP configurations.

I don't know if creating a warnbox on kmail startup saying "You are using
dIMAP - this might eat your data - please change to IMAP." would suffice.
Or maybe a debconf note on upgrade ?

But here is the patch; thanks to pinotree.

/Sune

Saving any file to the Desktop directory correctly causes an icon to
appear on the desktop, but then once every few seconds all icons on
the desktop will blink, which is very distracting. If you go into the
desktop behaviour preferences and disable display of icons on the
desktop, apply, then re-enable them, and apply again, the icons will
reappear, blink once after you have pressed OK, and then stabilize --
until the next time you add a file. This has been 100% reproducible
behaviour, even after logging out and logging in. Upgrading kdelibs4
and related packages from 3.1.3 to 3.1.4 did not change the behaviour.

Package: kicker

Non KDE applications lauched by kicker do not respect localisation,
that is they do not have their LANG, LC_ALL environment variables set.
This seems due to the fact that kicker does not read user environment
before lauching applications with a simplified environment.

For example after having lauched xmms via KDE menu (kicker):

The clock applet optionally shows the date (short date format). It
would be nice if it also had an option to show the day of the week

changing the format string for 'short dates' for the entire system.

Not too sure to report the bug here, but I'm guessing
since kwin manages the
window placement policy.

For some gnome based applications, e.g. mozilla and
scribus, the new windows
created do not obey the window placement policy (smart
placement in my case)
set for kwin. The newly created windows always appear
on the upper left
portion of the desktop, covering each other.

Package: noatun
Version: 4:3.1.2-1.4
Severity: normal

According to debian-policy, section 12.1:

  Each program, utility, and function should have an associated manual
  page included in the same package. It is suggested that all
  configuration files also have a manual page included as well. Manual
  pages for protocols and other auxiliary things are optional.

  If no manual page is available, this is considered as a bug and should
  be reported to the Debian Bug Tracking System (the maintainer of the
  package is allowed to write this bug report themselves, if they so
  desire). Do not close the bug report until a proper manpage is
  available.

However, there doesn't seem to be one for /usr/bin/noatun:

$ man noatun
No manual entry for noatun
See 'man 7 undocumented' for help when manual pages are not available.

Thanks,
Joe

Bug#374214: Improve integration of of kdmrc changes done from KDE and those from dpkg

2006-06-17 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: kdm
Version: 4:3.5.3-2
Severity: wishlist

Currently, if you make a change to kdmrc from within KDE (i.e., via
KDE's graphical tools) it makes big changes to /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc.
These include deleting all the comments.

On subsequent apt-get upgrade's I get the message that kdmrc has been
customized, and that the installer will leave it alone.

It would be nice if the changes made from KDE to kdmrc were less
radical, and if these could be integrated smoothly into dpkg's upgrade
process.

The current changes are so extensive that, at least for me, running
ediff on kdmrc vs kdmrc.dpkg-dist didn't yield useful information
about which changes to merge.

I don't know if the kdm package is the home of the control center
tools that rewrite kdmrc. If it is not, it might be appropriate to
reassign this wish to there.

Package: libwv2-1c2
Version: 0.2.2-2
Severity: minor

Hi Ben,

I am using libwv2 to analyse the documents of the TCPA specification for
code generation purposes. My problem with the packages is this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gcc wv2demo.cc -lwv2 -lstdc++ -o wv2demo
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ./wv2demo tcpa.doc 2>&1 |wc
  28314  335403 2003358
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l tcpa.doc
-rw-r--r--  1 torsten torsten 5007360 Sep 19 18:00 tcpa.doc

This is an insane amount of drivel if you are trying to build a program
based on wv2. In my special case I am using my own python wrapper and
redirecting stderr has the side effect that I can't see any python error
messages :( For KDE users with graphical programs using wv2 this will
also fill up the .xsession-errors file...

As the stuff that the library spits to stderr is unreadable to mere
humans and mostly interesting when working on wv2 itself I'd suggest to
turn off debugging by default (at least the debugging output stuff).

Looks like changing wvlog.h should do the trick but I only noticed after
building the package with the attached patch which I ask you to
consider.

Greetings

Torsten

int	main(int argc, char **argv)
{
	if (argc != 2) {
		fprintf(stderr, "Usage: %s file.doc\n", argv[0]);
		return 1;
	}

	SharedPtr parser = ParserFactory::createParser(argv[1]);
	parser->parse();
	return 0;
}
