Bug#284577: kdm does not start when rebooting

2004-12-07 Thread Pablo de Vicente
Package: kdm
Version: 3.2.2-1

I am expericiencing something awkward with a freshly installed PC (using
testing). kdm does not start when I reboot the computer. I get the following
error in /var/log/syslog:
Dec 2 21:18:30 localhost kdm: :0[2235]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay
Dec 2 21:18:30 localhost kdm[2170]: Display :0 cannot be opened
Dec  2 21:18:30 localhost kdm[2170]: Unable to fire up local display :0;
disabling.

but once the computer has started if I run:
   /etc/init.d/kdm start
it works fine.

Kdm version is 3.2.2-1 with Debian testing. Before filing a bug I would like
to know if somebody sees the same behaviour and if there is an explanation/
solution.

I suspect this happens with new installations and not with upgraded systems
from Woody to Sarge, because I have seen the problem with 2 new hosts and not
seen it in 2 upgraded systems.

thanks

2004-12-07 Thread AaronMartinez
well Vicente what you should do is, to put the KDM on the /etc/init.d/
make a little script so it can start up when, your pcs boots up, or
installed gdm and see if the gdm script works,

Bug#284610: Bug: Konqueror causes high load from XFree86

2004-12-07 Thread Martijn Bosch

Package: Konqueror & XFree86
Version: 3.2.2

When I visit www.laga.nl with konqueror, the cpu load of XFree86 goes up
to about 95%. My system gets 'unworkable' and I have to close Konqueror
to continue.

I am using an up to date version of Sarge.

Tested this on another pc with sarge; same problem.

Package: kdebase-bin
Version: 4:3.3.0-1
Severity: critical
File: kde
Justification: breaks the whole system

I've had this problem for weeks if not months, and it is very annoying. I
haven't
been able to locate _exactly_ where the problem comes from, but it happens very
often that, when I quit KDE (be it by logging out, restarting or turning off my
computer), the screen becomes black with the mouse pointer centered, and
everything freezes. I then have no choice but to power off my system manually.

The only thing I'm sure about is that the problem is somewhere in the base
packages of KDE: this bug only happens when I use KDE (I've been using gnome,
xfce4 and others to test X, but this *never* happened with others window/desktop
managers), and closing all apps before exiting makes no change.

I've rebuilt some of my packages with apt-build (never using higher levels than
-02 plus a few extra "safe" options) and I wondered if this had something to do
with the unstability of my system under KDE, but I don't think so; since I use
apt-get dist-upgrade on a daily basis, surely most of - if not all - those
packages have long since been replaced.

Dying to read a solution ... KDE is such a great environment with such great
apps, but this is really getting on my nerves. More and more.

When playing audio trough arts the reaction time of artsd can
increase to around 1s if the alsa output plugin is used together with
dmix.

Attached is a fix from Allen Sandfeld. This fix is already in kde cvs.
The patch must be applied in the arts-1.2.2/flow directory and does not
interfere with arts_1.2.2-1.diff.gz.

Full information on the bug is available on
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81095

Bug#284649: arts: tighten relation to akode when the KDE 3.3 transition is complete

Adeodato,

You might want to lower the severity of this bug so it doesn't keep arts 1.3.2
from replacing arts 1.3.1 in sarge 5 days from now when the urgency=medium
waiting period is over. Once it moves into sarge, you could raise the
severity again.

Josh

oops, what a mistake! (I mixed termis with the RC bug count, in which
the 'sid' tag effectively makes the bug be ignored).

  thanks!

Hi, this is Chloe. I noticed in your profile that we MAY be in the same area
(unless of course you were lying!?!? hehe) Are you new to cheating housewives?
This is a pretty good setup, anyways hope to hear from you soon...

Bug#284699: kdebase-data: Non-free Firefox icon included

2004-12-07 Thread Daniel Roberge
Package: kdebase-data
Version: 4:3.3.1-2
Severity: minor

The kdebase-data package includes three files:
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/16x16/apps/firefox.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/32x32/apps/firefox.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/48x48/apps/firefox.png
which are the trademarked, non-DFSG-free icon to be used for official Firefox
builds by the Mozilla Foundation. (viz.
http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/09/msg00127.html). They should
probably be replaced by the (much more boring) icon used in the
mozilla-firefox package.

Okay. Reassigning this bug to kdebase, then.
