Bug#265835: juk segfaults on start with kde3.3
Adeodato Simó wrote: * Helen Faulkner [Sun, 15 Aug 2004 10:06:46 +0100]: I (possibly foolishly) upgraded to kdelibs Version: 4:3.3.0-1, and now juk segfaults when I try to start it. as Nick points out, juk 3.3 seems not to work with gstreamer anymore. I experienced the same crash and solved it by running "gst-register-0.6". after that, juk started but didn't play any files. had to change "Output to" from GStreamer to aRts. I don't think I'm using gstreamer (have always used arts before) but I tried what you suggested here, and it didn't seem to make any difference. I've also tried reinstalling juk (more than once), to no avail. When I try to start juk it still segfaults. I get the same backtrace as before. Helen.

Bug#266603: kmail should depend on kdepim-kio-plugins, not just recommend it
Bug 26603: Missing dependency on kdepim-kio-plugins was closed after adding kdepim-kio-plugins to kmail's recommendations (as I understand it). It is my and other users' belief[1] that recommends is not enough as it provides "a significant amount of functionality" that is no less central than the built-in POP3 support, and that kmail should depend rather than recommend the plugins package. When attempting to use an IMAP account (configuration options being fully available even without the plugins installed), the error message produced on the command line is: kmail: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'newimap'. The GUI message box error is even less informative, and is unfortunately what most end-users will see. Given the nature of the error message, the integral role of IMAP functionality in an e-mail program, and the presence of GUI elements for it, we hope that you will consider this matter once more. I would be happy to provide any further information requested to assist in the matter. Thank you. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2004/08/msg00274.html -- Alex Nordstrom
Bug#269265: kdelibs: KDE woody->sarge: .desktop files changed their location (RC?)
Package: kdelibs Version: 4:3.2.3-2 Severity: important Hello, the .desktop files originally in /usr/share/applnk/ have now apparently migrated to /usr/share/applications/kde/... Since the default kicker quickstart icons used those files, KDE installations from woody and pre-3.2 sarge lose those quick access icons (well they're defunct, not gone). (example - kmail:) kmail <3.2: /usr/share/applnk/Internet/KMail.desktop kmail 3.2: /usr/share/applications/kde/KMail.desktop This is of course quite ugly. Most users confronted with this are helpless and really don't like going back to starting popular stuff via the K-menu. Has someone written a script for that? Except writing a hacky sed script going through user's homedirs to fix that (which we did in one case), does anyone have an idea to fix this for real (like, moving the .desktop stuff back to where they were for sarge and do a real migration script afterwards)? -Malte -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (600, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.25-ja1-suzuki1 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US Versions of packages kdelibs depends on: ii kdelibs-bin 4:3.2.3-2 KDE core binaries ii kdelibs-data 4:3.2.3-2 KDE core shared data ii kdelibs4 4:3.2.3-2 KDE core libraries -- no debconf information
Bug#269266: (unread) mail count in kmails folders screwed up
Package: kmail Version: 4:3.3.0-2 Severity: important Kmail "forgets" the count of read and unread mails in several folders frequently. Especially in the case where mails are moved to different folders than incoming due to filtering, they are not recognized as new unread mails in the folder they have been moved to. This way you cannot recognize that there are new mails in these folders until you click on them. Only then the counts get updated and new emails are counted as such and also the folder name is displayed bold as it should be. Probably unrelated to this bug: After I applied "compress all folders" I have some unwanted additional folders such as inbox.compacted That may have happened because I am really low on disk space and probably had a disk full during compression? Bug#266742: kdelibs: Additional info as discussed on debian-kde list
Package: kdelibs Version: 4:3.3.0-1.1 Followup-For: Bug #266742 Hi, in the meantime this issue has been discussed on debian-kde as well. Here is what Svenn Are Bjerkem has to sy about the problem: - Hi, I dist-upgraded my sid about the time when the first kde 3.3 packages showed up and I noted a dramatic reduction in speed when browsing the internet with konqueror. I first expected it to be something wrong with my dns, but a windows and macos machine on the same net had no problem. With tethereal I see that calling google from konqueror does not take long to resolve the name, it is there in almost no time. (just milliseconds) Then there is a lot of traffic like Who has this and this IP number and about 20 seconds after the name request was sent to the dns, I can see that there is a HTTP get request to the IP number that fits google. That brings up the text. Then there is about 20 more seconds and then the GIF's show up. I searched around on google to find a lot of stuff with alias net-pf-10 off regarding ipv6 being used. I commented out ipv6 in /etc/modules/aliases and created a new file /etc/modprobe.conf like the RH guys and suse guys are supposed to do. That didn't help konqueror much. I have also installed mozilla-firefox from sid, and that browser does not show any significant delay like konqueror do. I haven't found much about this ipv6 thing on debian, maybe nobody has had these experiences but me? I am running sid on a 2.4 kernel on a k6-333 -- Svenn In an additional posting he writes that knode seems to be affected by the same problem. Here's the archived thread (latest additions not yet in the archive...) http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2004/08/msg00293.html Kind regards, Felix -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-1-k7 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages kdelibs depends on: ii kdelibs-bin 4:3.3.0-1.1 KDE core binaries ii kdelibs-data 4:3.3.0-1.1 KDE core shared data ii kdelibs4 4:3.3.0-1.1 KDE core libraries -- no debconf information
