Bug#240027: kdm: KDM does not start correctly on boot
As far as I can tell it is already using /dev/urandom among other things. Unless I am reading the code incorrectly or there is a bug somewhere it should be using /dev/urandom according the kdm/backend/Imakefile setting. Domi any ideas? Chris signature.asc Description: Digital signature

For example, the Graphics submenu has a paintbrush icon and contains still image editing. The Multimedia submenu has an icon of a CD and filmstrip, much more indicative of movie watching software. I suppose the root of this problem is the division between menu choices in Debian do not harmonize well with KDE's categories, e.g. "Graphics", "Sound", and "Viewers" in menu versus "Graphics" and "Multimedia" in KDE3. I see no easy solution short of a Debian Policy change to match KDE (unlikely), or customizing the KDE3.1 menus to match 'menu's categories when KDE3 goes into SID. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux tones 2.4.19 #1 Sat Dec 21 00:28:52 PST 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages menu depends on: ii libc62.3.1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2 1:2.95.4-15 The GNU stdc++ library -- no debconf information --- Received: (at 176099-done) by bugs.debian.org; 10 Apr 2004 09:13:38 + >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Apr 10 02:13:38 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from 66-194-152-191.gen.twtelecom.net (pico.surpasshosting.com) [66.194.152.191] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BCEYU-0001hS-00; Sat, 10 Apr 2004 02:13:38 -0700 Received: from conr-adsl-cheney.txucom.net ([207.70.165.48] helo=calc) by pico.surpasshosting.com with esmtp (TLSv1:RC4-SHA:128) (Exim 4.24) id 1BCEYv-0001vt-Eb for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Sat, 10 Apr 2004 05:14:05 -0400 Received: from ccheney by calc with local (Exim 4.31) id 1BCEYC-0007eP-0V for [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Sat, 10 Apr 2004 04:13:20 -0500 Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 04:13:19 -0500 From: Chris Cheney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: menu: KDE3 / menu confusing category conflicts Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="213E7WwkW+nU62+Y" Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.5.1+cvs20040105i X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: Primary Hostname - pico.surpasshosting.com X-AntiAbuse: Original Domain - bugs.debian.org X-AntiAbuse: Origin

Re: Processed: Re: Bug #237820: menu: update-menu 2.1.10 fails on some menu entries
Actually there is still a menu/KDE problem present. When I try to update-menus I get following output: localhost:/root# update-menus sh: line 1: /usr/bin/kdm-update-menu: No such file or directory localhost:/root# As a result there is no 'Start new session' entry in the kde menu. This problem was reported under both #237820 and #242975. The later is still outstanding. It would be good if it can be fixed before next kdm upload or if some user workaround can be suggested. Thanks, Slaven

The only fix for this is to go in and delete the /etc/menu-methods/kdm file. It has nothing to do with the "Start new session" option in the kde menu. To enable that you must uncomment the extra servers in /etc/kde3/kdm/Xservers. The menu-method will be removed when kdebase is uploaded and really should have been a separate bug. Bug#243096: kdelibs-bin: split fdo-menu into a separate package
Package: kdelibs-bin Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: important The freedesktop.org menu support needs to be split into a separate package to appease Bill Allombert. I have no intention of renaming the menu-methods to kde specific names since they are not kde specific (other than the name of the cache dir). After this is done anything that follows the freedesktop.org menu standards can simply depend on the fdo-menu package and use it for the Debian menu integration.
