Crtl-[ and Crtl-] work as expected here (testing + KDE 3.2.1 + xf 4.3 from
unstable) when started from k-menu or kicker and command line.
I created the second tab with ctrl-shift-n and with file-> new tab.

Polling xdms? If you mean getting a chooser or login window from
another host, that's not the task of kdm but of the xserver. Or

If you mean that the chooser is provided by the local kdm, search for
ChooserHosts in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc and you'll find your wish already
implemented.

Let us know if this fixes you wishlist.

Ugly fonts and images with Konstruct/KDE 3.2.1

2004-03-18 Thread Tom
Hey all,

It's unbelievable how many places and mailboxes I already have polluted
with my question, but I'm getting quite desperate, and nobody seems to
be able to help me further (that includes [EMAIL PROTECTED],
be.comp.os.linux, comp.windows.x.kde, and [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

I installed KDE 3.2.1 using Konstruct. It sits in /opt/kde3.2.1 and I
can use it just fine. The only problem is its rendering of both images
and fonts, as visible here:

http://tom.verbreyt.be/tmp/snapshot1.png
http://tom.verbreyt.be/tmp/snapshot2.png

As the second shot shows, it's not only fonts that get, ehm, "crumbled",
so I guess it can't be Xft related.

I just used the gdm entry script of that in the official Debian
ksmserver package (exec /etc/X11/Xsession /opt/kde3.2.1/bin/startkde),
and added the environment variables mentioned in Konstructs README above
that line (QTDIR, KDEDIR, PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, all properly
mentioning /opt/kde3.2.1).

Following tips from [EMAIL PROTECTED], Konstructs maintainer, I concluded
that Xrender was properly compiled in. Another tip I got was on Usenet.
Someone in comp.windows.x.kde told me to try setting the default font to
some TTF, rather than what obviously was chosen as the default
(helvetica). At that point, I noticed that *none* of my truetype fonts
are available within Konstruct! I'm happily using them in Gnome right
now, so that shouldn't be happening.

That's the only clue I have. I guess there is a problem with the
Xserver, but I can't think of any reason for that. Previously, I have
been using Konstruct/KDE 3.2.1 installed in my own home directory, and
none of this happened. I figure something must go wrong when I try to
have it installed and usable for all users, by putting it in /opt.

Would anyone be able to give me further clues, tips or hints? I'm really
out of those.

I noticed that having installed kdelibs4-dev, kde-devel and kde-devel-extras,
doxygen doesn't appears on my system (using apt installing with suggests, and
with

When i (or startkde, for that matter) start artsd, it will start eating CPU
for no reason. 30-40% CPU on a athlon 2600+ ... other sound tools / programs
don't exhibit this behaviour, so the problem is with artsd itself.

This is probably an upstream issue, and it should then be forwarded to
the upstream KDE BTS. As an unofficial tip: you get helped faster if
you file upstream bugs at the KDE BTS directly.

Anyway, do you think this is the same bug as
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77050 ? Does pasting things in
the pwd field work when you right click on it with the mouse ?

There are a lot of useful packages in Debian, and we don't recommend
them either ;) IMHO, the number of KDE programs using doxygen is
fairly small, and if anything, I'd go for at most a suggests line.

Yes, that works. I noticed that there is focus-related fixes in krdc cvs,

Bug#238766: konqueror: Lock to current location + can't handle this file type

2004-03-18 Thread Mike Fedyk
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.1.5-2
Severity: normal

This is easy to reproduce.

1. Go to any directory with sub-directories.

2. Select View -> Lock to current location

3. Try to to open any of the directories

I get a dialog saying:

"There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror
with inode/directory, but it can't handle this file type."

Alternatively, if I link the locked view with another, the directory opens
in the unlocked linked view, and there is no error.

Nope, it's not quite the same bug. I am unable to CTRL-V, middle-click or

Bug#238770: kdebase: Weird fonts in Gnome apps after KDE upgrade

2004-03-18 Thread John Goerzen
Package: kdebase
Version: 4:3.2.1-1
Severity: normal

I'm not certain this is the right place for this bug report, or even
what is at fault; it manifested itself on one out of two machines that I
upgraded to 3.2 at the same time.

Gnome apps tend to now have strange fonts -- smaller than before -- in
the menus and panels. This includes Firebird and gvim. Of interest is
that gvim's text in the editor area is now much smaller, but Firebird's
text was not altered at all. gvim's text can be restored to normal
manually after it starts up each time, but that is, of course, annoying.

I would be intrested about this as well. Even if would be just adding
closes: changelog entries, it would save time. Is it already OK to create
your own branch under people/ and start working there?

KCrash: Application 'konqueror' crashing...

After playing around some time I have narrowed the problem to the file
~/.kde/share/config/profilerc - if I remove it
everything is fine.
I've tried to systematically remove entries from the profilerc file, but unless
its completely empty it seems to crash
the konqueror with the given errors.

This might be equal to BUG #224601, and the same error occurs on starting
kwrite/kate...
So please forward it if necessary to the correct package.

Here comes my profilerc:

Bug#238813: konqueror: Locks at http://www.sharpusa.com/

2004-03-18 Thread John Goerzen
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.2.1-1
Severity: normal

Every time I try to access www.sharpusa.com, it will redirect to
/SharpHome. Konwueror will load about 12 to 16 images, then it will
freeze, though it is not spinning at the time.

Bug#238812: kdvi's help has incorrect links to srcltx.sty and srctex.sty

2004-03-18 Thread Peter Hawkins
Package: kdvi
Version: 3.2.1-1
Severity: minor

Hi...

The help page:
help:/kdvi/inverse-search.html

has links to two files srcltx.sty and srctex.sty which are LaTeX style files
to support inverse searching. Unfortunately, in the debian package those two
files are gzipped so the links in that document to:
help:/kdvi/srcltx.sty
help:/kdvi/srctex.sty

need to have a .gz appended (or alternatively those files should be
ungzipped).

=)
Peter

Bug#237260: kdelibs-bin: I see the same behavior

2004-03-18 Thread Joe Nahmias
Package: kdelibs-bin
Version: 4:3.2.1-1
Severity: normal
Followup-For: Bug #237260

Hello Chris,

I see the same bug as the original reporter. It actually impacts both
freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-apps and freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-dirs.

I am using:
$ dpkg -l menu | grep ^ii
ii menu 2.1.10-1 Provides update-menus functions for some app

When I run update-menus I get the following:
# update-menus -v
update-menus[3280]: Dpkg is not locking dpkg status area, good.
update-menus[3280]: Reading installed packages list...
update-menus[3280]: Reading menu-entry files in /etc/menu/.
update-menus[3280]: 0 menu entries found (0 total).
update-menus[3280]: Reading menu-entry files in /usr/lib/menu/.
update-menus[3280]: 803 menu entries found (803 total).
update-menus[3280]: Reading menu-entry files in /usr/share/menu/.
update-menus[3280]: 0 menu entries found (803 total).
update-menus[3280]: Reading menu-entry files in /usr/share/menu/default/.
update-menus[3280]: 5 menu entries found (808 total).
update-menus[3280]: Running menu-methods in /etc/menu-methods/.
update-menus[3280]: Running method: /etc/menu-methods/kdm
sh: line 1: /usr/bin/kdm-update-menu: No such file or directory
update-menus[3280]: Running method: /etc/menu-methods/kdelibs-bin
update-menus[3280]: Running method: /etc/menu-methods/twm
update-menus[3280]: Running method:
/etc/menu-methods/freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-dirs
Unknown error, message=replacewith($string, $replace, $with): $replace and
$with must have the same length.
install-menu: /etc/menu-methods/freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-dirs: aborting
update-menus[3280]: Script
/etc/menu-methods/freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-dirs returned error status 1.
update-menus[3280]: Running method:
/etc/menu-methods/freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-apps
Unknown error, message=replacewith($string, $replace, $with): $replace and
$with must have the same length.
install-menu: /etc/menu-methods/freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-apps: aborting
update-menus[3280]: Script
/etc/menu-methods/freedesktop-desktop-entry-spec-apps returned error status 1.

So, it seems the OR was correct about the need to match the length of
the strings being replaced with the replacement text.

Hope this helps!

PS - IMHO, this should be at least severity: important
