I just looked though the bug report and I think it is a problem with the
kernel package rather than with konqueror because I can not produce it on my
machine which is running a self-compiled kernel (2.4.22). I find it quite
hard to segfault konqueror, normally it just hangs if it can not cope with
something.

bugs requiring a new kdebase upload.

2003-12-10 Thread Dominique Devriese

Hi,

I've been working through a lot of debian kde* related bugs lately,
especially the release-critical ones, and there are currently four
release-critical bugs that all require a new kdebase upload:
211985 206958 210606 218731

These are all bugs for which a patch is available, or only a recompile
is needed. I'm not sure about 210606, but chris added the pending
tag, so I'm assuming it's easily fixable too..

So, do you think it would be possible to do a new kdebase upload any
time soon ? Sorry if I'm whining, but keeping these RC bugs around is
of course Not A Good Thing ;)

I'm currently joining the Debian New Developers queue, in order to
learn more about maintaining a Debian package, so I might in the
future be able to join the KDE maintainers group.

cheers
domi

Bug#215946: /etc/kde3/magic/*.magic

Then why not add mime-magic support to mime-types and share that between
all the program that need it instead of replicating the feature all
along ?

KDE 1.1 provided a way to modify the files in /usr/share/kde... by
asking first for the root password. So yes they were editable...

> put it in an obviously wrong location.

What you need is a 3-way overriding process like Debian menu does:

1: ~/.kde3/share/config for user config.
2: /etc/kde3 for sysadmin config.
3: /use/share/kde3/config for package config.

Files in 1) override files in 2) and 3), files in 2) override files in 3).

You ship 2) basically empty (everything should go in 3).)

e.g. menu use
1: ~/.menu
2: /etc/menu
3: /usr/lib/menu

Cheers,
Bill.

It is Debian specific ? if not it should go in the KDE documentation
in the 'How I add a new mime-type section'.

You can also add a file
/etc/kde3/magic/README
that explain the format, etc... and drop a note in README.Debian.

KDE need a mime-magic system. But it don't need to be private to KDE.
I mean, it make sense to configure KDE and GNOME to use different
programs for the same mime-type but not to see the same file with two
different mime-type.

It would make a lot of sense to add mime-magic support to mime-support.

If you support both $kde_prefix/config/magic/ and /etc/kde3/magic/, I
don't see why kolf magic cannot go in $kde_prefix/config/magic.

In fact I am not sure why /etc/kde3/magic/ need to be a directory if
$kde_prefix/config/magic/ for application plug-in.

Bill.

Package: kdelibs-bin
Version: 4:3.1.3-1
Severity: important

When home is mounted from another server via nfs it cannot generate ksyscoca
database
If you remove ~/.kde KDE starts configurator and FIRST time it works.
Because this file is in /tmp it is removed during next startup user cannot
start KDE next time.
Now I've create such databases for all my desktop users and during startup copy
that files to /tmp
There is another consequence: cannot see any changes done in menu

Only a couple of the buildds are back, and the last post I saw wrt to
testing (Dec 5) said the testing scripts are still disabled.

I will be uploading kdebase soon though however it won't be built on all
archs for a while since only about 3(?) of the buildds are back and of
course it won't migrate until the rest are back and the testing scripts
are reactivated.

Yea, I am working through my list of packages needing updates and will
be uploading kdebase soon. By the way most of the buildds are still not
online so it won't be building and migrating to testing anytime soon. If
I remember correctly testing migration is still disabled anyway.
