Bug#973785: gcc-10: Huge package sizes of gcc-10 and cpp-10 on amd64
Package: gcc-10 Version: 10.2.0-16 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer, I got today's upgrade to 10.2.0-16 for gcc-10 and cpp-10 in testing amd64 and I noticed that the package sizes have increased by a lot! More specifically, gcc-10 went from 15MB to 67 and cpp-10 from 7.5MB to 60! Their installed sizes sum up to 600+MB now, making them the top 2 packages in dpigs! Is that intentional, or is it some bug? Because I also have a i386 machine running sid and those 2 remained roughly the same in package and istallation size. I don't really mind the size, I just want to see if someone else has noticed the same. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.9.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages gcc-10 depends on: ii binutils 2.35.1-2 ii cpp-10 10.2.0-16 ii gcc-10-base10.2.0-16 ii libc6 2.31-4 ii libcc1-0 10.2.0-16 ii libgcc-10-dev 10.2.0-16 ii libgcc-s1 10.2.0-16 ii libgmp10 2:6.2.0+dfsg-6 ii libisl22 0.22.1-1 ii libmpc31.2.0-1 ii libmpfr6 4.1.0-3 ii libstdc++6 10.2.0-16 ii libzstd1 1.4.5+dfsg-4 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.11.dfsg-2 Versions of packages gcc-10 recommends: pn libc6-dev Versions of packages gcc-10 suggests: pn gcc-10-doc pn gcc-10-locales pn gcc-10-multilib -- no debconf information
Bug#973785: gcc-10: Huge package sizes of gcc-10 and cpp-10 on amd64
Package: gcc-10 Version: 10.2.0-16 Followup-For: Bug #973785 X-Debbugs-Cc: pitsior...@gmail.com Do you mean this bit? Because this is the only thing related to amd64 as I see it... * Also enable the extra checking on amd64, arm64, ppc64el, s390x, and don't strip the executables. This will be reverted within a few weeks, please don't send bug reports about that. To be honest, I never chech changelogs unless there is a big issue. Since that change was intentional, I am looking forward to the one that will revert it. Feel free to close this report. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.9.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages gcc-10 depends on: ii binutils 2.35.1-2 ii cpp-10 10.2.0-16 ii gcc-10-base10.2.0-16 ii libc6 2.31-4 ii libcc1-0 10.2.0-16 ii libgcc-10-dev 10.2.0-16 ii libgcc-s1 10.2.0-16 ii libgmp10 2:6.2.0+dfsg-6 ii libisl22 0.22.1-1 ii libmpc31.2.0-1 ii libmpfr6 4.1.0-3 ii libstdc++6 10.2.0-16 ii libzstd1 1.4.5+dfsg-4 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.11.dfsg-2 Versions of packages gcc-10 recommends: pn libc6-dev Versions of packages gcc-10 suggests: pn gcc-10-doc pn gcc-10-locales pn gcc-10-multilib -- no debconf information
