I suggested a patch that would correct this:

2008-06-05 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Looking at

http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?pkg=gimp-plugin-registry

this bug seems to occur on most architectures (see the build of 0.9-1).

[Bug c++/36439] [4.3/4.4 Regression] infinite loop in PRE building gimp-plugin-registry

2008-06-05 Thread rguenth at gcc dot gnu dot org

--- Comment #1 from rguenth at gcc dot gnu dot org 2008-06-05 11:24 ---
In function cimg_library::CImg& cimg_library::CImg::blur_patch(unsigned
int, float, float, unsigned int, bool), which contains some number of loops
from
macro expansion stuff. -fno-tree-pre "fixes" it. phi-translation is dog slow.

so maybe use -O2 -fno-tree-pre on all archs for now.

[Bug target/35658] [4.3/4.4 regression] Bad interaction on ia64 between -funroll-loops -fno-automatic -O2 and common block variable

2008-06-05 Thread sje at cup dot hp dot com

--- Comment #7 from sje at cup dot hp dot com 2008-06-05 23:02 ---
I now think this is a register scheduling bug. If I use -fno-schedule-insns2
then the bug doesn't happen even with "-O2 fno-automatic -frename-registers".

The problem seems to be scheduling the assignment to TEMP2 and assigning TEMP2
to F(K).

In the good code, in C201S I see the following instructions, in this order:

 addl r17 = @gprel(temp2.717#), gp - r17 is addr of temp2
 stfd [r17] = f0   - zero out temp2
 (p11) stfd [r17] = f10- (maybe) put value (2.0) in temp2
 ldfd f9 = [r17]   - load temp2
 add r16 = r34, r37- r16 is addr of F(1)
 stfd [r16] = f9   - store temp2 in F(1)

In the bad code (with instruction scheduling turned on) I see:

 addl r17 = @gprel(temp2.717#), gp - r17 is addr of temp2
 add r16 = r34, r37- r16 is addr of F(1)
 ldfd f9 = [r17]   - load temp2
 stfd [r17] = f0   - zero out temp2
 stfd [r16] = f9   - store (old) temp2 in F(1)
 (p11) stfd [r17] = f10- (maybe) put value (2.0) in temp2

The store into F(1) is done before we have put the correct value int temp2.
I don't understand how instruction scheduling could be this broken.

Re: gcc-4.[1-3] on hurd-i386 -fstack-protector tries to link with libssp_nonshared

2008-06-05 Thread Samuel Thibault
fixed 483612 4.2.4-2
found 483613
thanks

Hello,

gcc-4.2=4.2.4-2 closed the bug which was intended for gcc-4.3, so
reopening that and closing the proper one.

Could you please fix the gcc-4.1 changelog into closing bug #483609?

Thanks,
Samuel

binary compatibility with Debian...

2008-06-05 Thread Michael Andronov
Let me explain briefly the issue I've run into:

1. I build a  really `short` application under Fedora or Mandrake disto(s):

int main()
{
return 0;
}

On both above platforms, it is build with command:
g++ -g  -O0  -m32  test2.cpp,

where test2.cpp is a file with above mentioned code.

2. I move the binary output - a.out - to my Debian box.
Attempt to execute it is immediately failing with
`Floating point exception`.

3. Building above code on Debian and executing:
no problem - it is doing nothing, but not crashing...

4. moving the binary, build on Debian to Fedora and/or Mandriva-
 and running it - no problem, doing nothing, not crashing.

I would really appreciate any idea how to explain such behavior, and,
possibly, an advice what should be done in order to share binary,
build on Fedora/Mandriva with  Debian.

Thanks for you kind attention to this matter.

Bug#484741: g++-4.3: [ia64] exceptions are not caught when they should be

2008-06-05 Thread Zack Weinberg
Package: g++-4.3
Version: 4.3.0-5
Severity: normal

A package of mine (monotone) failed to build on one of the ia64 build
daemons due to an "impossible" failure in its testsuite. The unit tests
for this package, in several places, deliberately break data structure
invariants and check that std::logic_error gets thrown when the broken
data structures are used. In two cases, the logic_error was thrown
but not caught by the test harness; instead std::terminate was called.
This does not happen on other platforms so I suspect a compiler bug.

The symptoms (quoting
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=monotone&arch=ia64&ver=0.40-4&stamp=1212239914&file=log&as=raw
 ):

/build/buildd/monotone-0.40/unit_tester: check_sane_roster_test: loop = 0 (of 9)
/build/buildd/monotone-0.40/unit_tester:
UNIT_TEST_CHECK_THROW(r.check_sane(false), logic_error)
/build/buildd/monotone-0.40/unit_tester: roster.cc:1026: invariant
'I(has_root())' violated
 debugging dump here ...
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error'
  what():  roster.cc:1026: invariant 'I(has_root())' violated

Unfortunately I do not have interactive access to ia64 hardware, so I cannot
provide any more compact test case.
