It worked. This time it was compiled on bld-3 while it originally
failed on sarti. Maybe someone can try it on sarti again to see what
happens? Has sarti had similar problems before?

--- Comment #6 from schwab at suse dot de 2006-07-01 07:01 ---
The bug is much older, I was able to get it fail using the sources at the 3.4
branch point. That 3.4.6 does not fail is probably just coincidence.

This rather looks like UB or such.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure that the type of "signed int" << "unsigned long" is
"signed int". (Yes it is, see 6.5.7.) "signed int" is 32 bits long and
the largest value is 2^31-1. 2^31 overflows and the overflow behaviour
of signed integers is undefined.

This code produces undefined behavour.

Hello GCC maintainers,

gcc-2.95 FTBFS on alpha as seen here:

While investigating, I found a simple work-around: simply not building
f77 on alpha avoid the problem (I have made a test build on escher).
This is not perfect but the alpha porters do not feel the need for
gcc-2.95 on alpha anyway.

I provide a patch that implement this solution.

Thanks for considering,
