No need to do it automatically. Everything should be recompiled with gcc
3.2.
gcc-2.95-compat dir is for that small amount of packages (and their
dependencies, including libstdc++) that temporary cannot
be compiled by gcc 3.2. That should be done by correspondent package
maintainers. Off course, this plan will work only if the amount of
"gcc-2.95-compat"-packages is small.
I propose some mixing of variant 1 and variant 3 from your original message.
But instead of mangling the compiler version in soname I propose
putting "gcc-2.95-compat"-SOs in a separate directory preserving their
names.

BTW, how did Debian switch from libc5 to libc6 some years ago?

ok.

If perl needs C only, then wait for the final gcc-3.1.1 (currently in
the new queue). If you need C++, please wait for gcc-3.2.

gcc-3.0/g++-3.0 doesn't use alternatives to make sure that the
preferred system compiler is used when calling 'gcc'. If you want to
test gcc-3.0/g++-3.0 for a particular package,

- use CC=gcc-3.0 CXX=g++-3.0 when configuring/compiling a package

- make ~/bin/gcc a symlink to gcc-3.0 and add it to your path

Package: libgcc1
Version: 1:3.0.4-7
Severity: normal

On sparc32 platforms it is impossible to remove the unnecessary
libc6-sparc64 package because libgcc1 depends on it. It seems there
should be a libgcc1-sparc64 package to seperate dependencies.
Thank you.

Profiling does not work on ARM with gcc 2.95. There are two problems:

 - the cc1 specs seem to be missing %{profile:-p}, so "-profile" doesn't
actually enable profiling code generation (though -p/-pg works)
 - the generated profiling code is incorrect: it contains a stray data
word after the call to mcount.

It probably needs something like this adding to linux-elf.h:

/* Call the function profiler with a given profile label. */
#undef  FUNCTION_PROFILER
#define FUNCTION_PROFILER(STREAM, LABELNO)  \
{   \
  fprintf (STREAM, "\tbl\tmcount%s\n", NEED_PLT_RELOC ? "(PLT)" : "");  \
}

#undef  CC1_SPEC
#define CC1_SPEC "%{profile:-p}"

Severity: normal

The manpage of gcj-3.1 reads as following:

-Idir
All directories specified by "-I" are kept in order and prepended to the
class path constructed from all the other options. Unless compatibility
with tools like "javac" is imported, we recommend always using "-I"
instead of the other options for manipulating the class path.

I think "imported" should be replaced by "important".

Package: libffi2-dev
Version: 1:3.1.1-0pre2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.1.6

Hi!

Currently, the libffi2 & libffi2-dev packages point their
/usr/share/doc/libffi2* link to GCC's doc directory.

But, libffi has its own Copyright and license statement as well as a
very useful README file describing the API in the
gcc-3.1-3.1.1ds1/gcc-20020606/libffi directory (if you unpack the all
the package sources). It even contains relevant ChangeLog files.

The distribution terms in the file LICENSE are very different from
GCC's.

Thanks.

Etienne

PS: Personally, I think that the libffi* source package would ideally
be independent from the gcc source package, unless there's a good
reason not to.

Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The file /usr/include/g++-v3-3.1/i386-linux/bits/codecvt_specializations.h
(probably all other architectures as well) is missing some
qualifications that were already mentioned in Bug #104614.
Unfortunately, the patch was only made for libstdc++3-dev. Please
include this patch for libstdc++4.-dev as well:

Is sh a new or a revived port? Is there a reason not go with
gcc-3.1/gcc-3.2?

No Fortran, no Java?

Bug#155045: libstdc++4-dev: header files moved

2002-07-31 Thread Norbert Kiesel
Subject: libstdc++4-dev: header files moved
Package: libstdc++4-dev
Version: 1:3.1.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

header files moved from /us/include/g++-v3-3.1 to /usr/include/c++/-3.1

Was this really intended (breaks my self-build stlport library)?

should be c++/3.1, not c++/-3.1. this is a mistake (gcc-3.3 uses this
schema for the include path by default).

> Was this really intended (breaks my self-build stlport library)?

you should not rely on a hard coded include path.

to get the include path, scan 'gcc -v' for
--with-gxx-include-dir=XXX. This will work for Debian's gcc-3.1 and
gcc-3.2.

wondering, why gcc-3.1 -print-search-dirs doesn't print the standard
include paths ...
