Bug#153816: gcc-3.1 doesn't provide cc

2002-07-22 Thread Matthias Klose
reassign 153816 gcc
merge153816 112887
thanks

gcc-3.1 doesn't use alternatives to make sure that the preferred
system compiler is used when calling 'gcc'. If you want to test
gcc-3.1 for a particular package,

- use CC=gcc-3.1 CXX=g++-3.1 when configuring/compiling a package

- make ~/bin/gcc a symlink to gcc-3.1 and add it to your path

gcc-3.1/gcc-3.2 will become the default gcc soon.

Bug#150050: acknowledged by developer (fixed in gcc-2.95.3)

2002-07-22 Thread
Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I realize that as of the recent release of 3.0
stable, of course, this issue is less important, and as I was compiling
a program from the previous testing under the previous stable, the
reported bug was hardly critical.

However, as I understand it, the bug indicated a problem with the
compiler (an internal error), so other programs compiled with the
compiler would fail. If I find a bug in the stable compiler for Debian,
I would regard it as important to report the bug. Can you please let me
know if it would be important to report a similar type bug in the
future? Thanks for your time.

Michael
