3.0 and warning!?

2001-04-26 Thread Ketil Malde

Hi

Just did the usual Update/Upgrade thing, and suddenly dselect wants to
upgrade my gcc to 3.0. Later on, I get this horrendous warning about
it.

I mean, all right, development snapshot and all, but surely dselect
shouldn't *automatically* upgrade if it is this dangerous?!

(Using woody)

Bug#95318: gcc-3.0: unnecessary cwtl

2001-04-26 Thread herbert
Package: gcc-3.0
Version: 1:3.0-0pre010403
Severity: minor

gcc-3.0 wastes a byte in the following code on i386:

a:
pushl   %ebp
movl%esp, %ebp
movl8(%ebp), %eax
andl$1, %eax
cwtl
popl%ebp
ret

The cwtl is unnecessary since %eax has just been anded with 1.

The source is:

int a(short i) {
return i & 1;
}

Ah, so it didn't just install it, you had it installed already, and it
got upgraded. FYI, gcc-3.0 is not used by default. Calling "gcc" or "cc"
will use gcc-2.95. You need to set CC=gcc-3.0 to actually use the new
compiler. So the warning is pretty accurate.

However, after the next upgrade, it wont give a warning any longer.

Hi,

sorry I made a mistake in my original report because I found another
bug while writing the report. The missing -r option is in
/var/lib/dpkg/info/gpc-2.95.preinst :
