trouble with portmap on diskless machines
Hi, I have a cluster of diskless machines. I've followed the instructions in the diskless package, and the machines boot up as a result. The diskless package is simply great. I'd spent a whole lot of time making SuSE remote boot and thats what I have to use until i get Debian working properly. NIS doesn't work on the diskless machines. After some looking around, I figured that it was the portmapper that really wasn't working. It shows up in the ps listing, and there are no errors reported during bootup for portmap. But rpcinfo -p localhost says 'RPC: Remote System error - Connection refused' and ypbind says 'Neigbour table overflow'. Please reply straight to me, as I'm not on the list, yet. viral
Project Gutenberg
Hello, I was wondering that the work done by Project Gutenberg (http://sailor.gutenberg.org) should be made available through debian. It would be great to use 'apt' to get all the great work done there. It shouldn't be difficult at all to package. I don't know if this has been discussed earlier (sorry, I didn't check the archives) but I'd like to know of what other people think about it. viral -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Its in perl, and uses perl-gtk. It does indexing and retrieving, and although still in beta, is quite a nice tool. And it is GPL. viral -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
mp3 encoding patents.
Hi all, Sorry to bring up this subject again. I just wanted to know that can't mp3 encoders be distributed from a non-us site where the policies are much more relaxed ? Viral. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Intent to package intel-rng-tools.
Hi, I am working on packaging intel-rng-tools. It is the daemon to utilise the RNG on i810 boards. Let me know if anyone is working on this. I shall otherwise upload it tonight. Please cc me replies, as I'm not on the list. viral -- And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

Yes, but one needs the daemon to use the driver. One could activate it from /proc, but that was removed and moved to a userland daemon. viral -- For long you live and high you fly, but only if you ride the tide, And balanced on the biggest wave, you race towards an early grave.
Intent to package vcdimager.
Hello all, I plan to package vcdimager. From the README : This is GNU VCDImager, a VideoCD image mastering tool. This package contains GNU VCDRip, a VideoCD ripping tool, for ripping mpeg streams from VideoCD images and showing VideoCD information about the image. There already exists cdrdao which can clone VCDs, and vcdtools, which can create a VCD image from mpegs. vcdimager rips mpegs from the VCDs. viral -- "There is no dark side of the moon really. No, its not bothersome to explain. This extract comes from 2.4.4's Documentation/i810_rng.txt. I also read about the decision of moving the rng to userland, but I can't find that now. Introduction: The i810_rng device driver is software that makes use of a special hardware feature on the Intel i8xx-based chipsets, a Random Number Generator (RNG). In order to make effective use of this device driver, you should download the support software as well. lame (vorbis) packaging.
Hi, Is there anyone working on trying to package lame ? It can do vorbis now, so I believe that it can be packaged without the mp3 stuff. How the source will be dealt with, is something that I would like to figure out. viral -- There's someone in my head but its not me. pgp8grGcXD9wV.pgp Description: PGP signature
