Bug#1865: cmr10 at 10.0pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not found.

1995-11-15 Thread birkholz
Package: kpathsea
Version: 2.6-1

LaTeX did not work after I purged the old TeX packages and installed the
new ones. This is what happened:

$ latex 951115.tex
This is TeX, Version 3.1415 (C version 6.1)
(951115.tex
LaTeX2e <1995/06/01> patch level 1
(/usr/lib/texmf/tex/latex/latex209.def
Entering LaTeX 2.09 compatibility mode.
(/usr/lib/texmf/tex/latex/tracefnt.sty)
(/usr/lib/texmf/tex/latex/latexsym.sty)
kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log.

! Font OT1/cmr/m/n/10=cmr10 at 10.0pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not
found
.

   relax
l.355 \selectfont

?

I set KPATHSEA_DEBUG=63 and tried again. It looks like kpathsea is looking
for cmr10.tfm in the path=.:/var/spool/texmf/fonts/tfm//
:/usr/local/lib/texmf/fonts/tfm//:/usr/lib/texmf/fonts/tfm//.
Unfortunately, the textfm package puts the font metric files in
/usr/lib/texmf/fonts/metafont/tfm/, not /usr/lib/texmf/fonts/tfm/.

I was able to get latex and dvips working by symlinking
/usr/lib/texmf/fonts/metafont/tfm/ to /usr/lib/texmf/fonts/tfm/.

I'll append the compressed debugging log.

Bug#1913: gs depends on *both* svgalib and xlibraries

1995-11-28 Thread birkholz
Package: gs
Version: 2.6.1pl4-5

The DEPENDS requires both svgalib *and* xlibraries? I'm no expert on dpkg
DEPENDS syntax, but dpkg did require that I install svgalib even though I
had the xlibraries. I think a comma denotes a conjunction. I cannot now
remove svgalib because of gs's dependency.

DESCRIPTION: Postscript interpreter with X11 and svgalib preview support.
Ghostscript is used for postscript preview and printing. Usually as
a back-end to a program such as ghostview, it can display postscript
documents in an X11 environment. It can also use the Linux svga
library to display documents graphically on the Linux console.
  .
Furthermore, it can render postscript files as graphics to be printed
on non-postscript printers. Supported printers include common
  dot-matrix, inkjet and laser models.

Bug#2089: lrzsz hangs

1996-01-03 Thread birkholz
Package: lrzsz
Version: 0.11

If the connection closes while lrz is downloading a file, lrz will hang.
This happens because the maintainer of the package commented out all of the
calls to signal(). I fixed the declarations of the signal handlers instead.

I'll append my patches. Thanks in advance for integrating them. I would
offer to take over the package, but I don't really use it and don't have
time to read the source code of dpkg/dselect. (Is there any documentation
yet?)

Bug#2088: README.fdisk gone missing.

1996-01-03 Thread birkholz
Package: miscutils
Version: 1.3-5

The BUGS section of the manpage for fdisk:

Although this man page (written by [EMAIL PROTECTED]) is
poor, there is excellent documentation in the README.fdisk
file (written by [EMAIL PROTECTED]) that should always be
with the fdisk distribution. If you cannot find this file
in the util-linux-* directory or with the fdisk.c source
file, then you should write to the distributor of your
version of fdisk and complain that you do not have all of
   the available documentation.

I cannot find README.fdisk anywhere:

% dpkg --search fdisk
miscutils: /usr/man/man8/fdisk.8
miscutils: /usr/man/man8/cfdisk.8
miscutils: /sbin/cfdisk
