Xlwt is a fork of the now unmaintained pyexcelerator by Roman
V. Kiseliov. It is a pure Python implementation of a library for
writing files in Microsoft Excel 95 to 2003 spreadsheet format. There
is a bug filed against the Debian package python-excelerator to
transition it to xlwt (#500185).

The package will be maintained by me and the Debian Python Modules
Team (DPMT).

DDPortfolio service available

2009-01-20 Thread Jan Dittberner

Hello Debian developers,

I stumbled upon Stefano Zacchiroli's blog post [1] regarding
DDPorfolio links. He prepared an example page in the Debian wiki [2]
that inspired me to hack a little service that generates such
customized URLs for Debian developers.

[1] http://upsilon.cc/~zack/blog/posts/2008/11/debian_developer_portfolio/
[2] http://wiki.debian.org/DDPortfolio

My little service [3] is implemented as a WSGI Python webapp and can
operate in two modes:

1. generate human readable HTML output
2. generate JSON with URLs

The service can be configured using a configuration file and may be
extended to support more URLs in the future.

I make this service available under the terms of the GNU AGPLv3 and
provide a gitweb interface at [4]. You may git clone it from [5].

[4] http://debianstuff.dittberner.info/gitweb?p=ddportfolioservice.git

I hope this service is of use for some of you. Feel free to suggest
improvements.

Prominent members of the Python teams reached consensus (AFAICS) that
python-support is the better option and there were already proposals to even
include its functionallity in dh_python some day. Maybe we can get rid of
python-central or python-support (or both) some time after the Squeeze release.
I support the suggestion to move python-support and python-apt to standard.

I don't know whether we need it, but maybe the feature list at the (corrected)
web site URL and Felix's scalability page [1] may help to find an answer.

There is a difference between a package maintainer (the person or group
mentioned in a package's Maintainer field) and the Debian Maintainer (DM)
fields. While it is true that only DDs and DMs can upload to the archive, it is
still possible to maintain packages via a sponsor (who is actually uploading
packages for a non DD/DM maintainer. There are several good ways to find
sponsors, one is mentors.d.n [1] the other is one of the different teams [2].

[1] http://mentors.debian.net/
[2] http://wiki.debian.org/CategoryTeams

There are surely more ways to show activity even without uploading packages or
doing other packaging work.

  Description : live syncing mirror daemon that synchronizes local
directories using rsync

Lsyncd uses rsync to synchronize local directories with a remote machine
running rsyncd. Lsyncd watches multiple directories trees through inotify. The
first step after adding the watches is to rsync all directories with the remote
host, and then sync single file by collecting the inotify events. So lsyncd is
a light-weight live mirror solution that should be easy to install and use
while blending well with your system. See lsyncd --help for detailed command
line options.

My motivation for packaging this software is the article at
http://fak3r.com/2009/09/14/howto-build-your-own-open-source-dropbox-clone/ and
that it seems useful to have a package to perform such a setup even more
easily.

I'm experienced with Python + Pylons and used mentors.d.n quite regularly until
I got a DD. I will have a look at the current code base as soon as I find some
free time. Is there a list of current pending issues or ideas somewhere?

A short update:

I started work on debexpo yesterday and I'm almost finished porting it to
Pylons 1.0, SQLAlchemy 0.6 and the latests python-debian. I will put my work in
a publicly accessible git repository and will improve the unit test coverage
before I start working on the open issues/new ideas.

  Description : module for efficient boolean array handling

This module provides an object type which efficiently represents an array of
booleans. Bitarrays are sequence types and behave very much like usual lists.
Eight bits are represented by one byte in contiguous block of memory. The user
can select between two representations; little-endian and big-endian.

Most of the functionality is implemented in C. Methods for accessing the
machine representation are provided. This can be useful when bit level access
to binary files is required, such as portable bitmap image files (.pbm). Also,
when dealing with compressed data which uses variable bit length encoding, you
may find this module useful.

I intend to package this module because it is needed as dependency for
rapid-spring (ITP: #593330).

keepassx and keepass2 are interoperable with files from their counterparts on

Bug#763081: ITP: python-pytest-django -- Django plugin for the py.test Python testing tool

* URL : https://github.com/pelme/pytest_django
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Django plugin for the py.test Python testing tool

pytest-django is a plugin for pytest that provides a set of useful tools for
testing Django applications and projects.

Running the test suite with pytest offers some features that are not present in
Djangos standard test mechanism:

* Less boilerplate: no need to import unittest, create a subclass with
  methods. Just write tests as regular functions.
* Manage test dependencies with fixtures
* Database re-use: no need to re-create the test database for every test
  run.
* Run tests in multiple processes for increased speed
* There are a lot of other nice plugins available for pytest.
* Easy switching: Existing unittest-style tests will still work without any
  modifications.

I plan to maintain the package under the umbrella of the DPMT. The package
is a dependency to implement build time testing for python-django-braces
(See #763075).

  Description : A script for cloning a non-relocatable virtualenv

Virtualenv provides a way to make virtualenv's relocatable which could then
be copied as we wanted. However making a virtualenv relocatable this way
breaks the no-site-packages isolation of the virtualenv as well as other
aspects that come with relative paths and '/usr/bin/env' shebangs that may
be undesirable.

Also, the .pth and .egg-link rewriting doesn't seem to work as intended.
This attempts to overcome these issues and provide a way to easily clone an
existing virtualenv.

I intend to package it because it is a dependency of current
virtualenvwrapper versions.

Bug#725618: ITP: python-django-crispy-forms -- app for Django providing elegant form rendering

2013-10-06 Thread Jan Dittberner
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jan Dittberner

* Package name: python-django-crispy-forms
  Version : 1.4.0
  Upstream Author : Miguel Araujo
* URL : http://github.com/maraujop/django-crispy-forms
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : app for Django providing elegant form rendering

Django-crispy-forms provides you with a |crispy filter and {% crispy %} tag
that will let you control the rendering behavior of your Django forms in a
very elegant and DRY way. Have full control without writing custom form
templates. All this without breaking the standard way of doing things in
Django, so it plays nice with any other form application.

Django-crispy-forms supports several frontend frameworks, such as Twitter
Bootstrap (versions 2 and 3), Uni-form and Foundation. You can also easily
adapt your custom company's one, creating your own, see the docs for more
information. You can easily switch among them using CRISPY_TEMPLATE_PACK
setting variable.

Bug#691190: ITP: python-errorhandler -- Python log handler tracking logging of messages above a certain level

  Description : Python log handler tracking logging of messages above a
certain level

This is a handler for the Python standard logging framework that can be used
to tell whether messages have been logged at or above a certain level.

This can be useful when wanting to ensure that no errors have been logged
before committing data back to a database.

I intend to package this software as example how to do Python packaging
during PyCon DE 2012. This software depends on python-pkginfo (See [1]) and
is required for xlutils [2].

I assume that apt-file finds symlinks too because at a first glance I see my
migrate package in the list. The package contains a symlink to the system
jquery.js.

 ~> ls -la /usr/share/doc/python-migrate/html/_static/jquery.js
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 46 Mai 17  2012
 /usr/share/doc/python-migrate/html/_static/jquery.js ->
 ../../../../javascript/sphinxdoc/1.0/jquery.js

 ~> ls -la /usr/share/javascript/sphinxdoc/1.0/jquery.js
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Mai 24  2012
 /usr/share/javascript/sphinxdoc/1.0/jquery.js -> ../../jquery/jquery.js

So IMHO before a mass filing the list should be cleaned from such false
positives.

replacement of merkel services in DDPortfolio

2011-04-05 Thread Jan Dittberner
Hi,

I changed an entry in the ddportfolioservice [1] to reflect the new location to
lookup DD assigned debian.net domain names (Paul: thanks for the Wiki edit).
There are some more merkel URLs that stopped working. Do you know whether there
are replacements on other Debian hosts? The URLs in question are:

* all messages (i.e., full text search for developer name on all bug logs)

http://merkel.debian.org/~don/cgi/search.cgi?phrase=Jan+Dittberner;search=search

* keylog (per-key upload list) (note: uses key fingerprint)

http://merkel.debian.org/~enrico/keylog/B2FF1D95CE8F7A22DF4CF09BA73E008FB8DD.html

* MIA database information
  ssh merkel.debian.org /srv/qa.debian.org/mia/mia-query ja...@debian.org

* Group membership information

Bug#777732: ITP: nagios-check-xmppng -- monitoring plugin for checking XMPP servers

2015-02-11 Thread Jan Dittberner
Package: wnpp

Owner: Jan Dittberner

* Package name: nagios-check-xmppng
  Version : 0.1.2
  Upstream Author : Jan Dittberner
* URL : https://exchange.icinga.org/jandd/check_xmppng
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : monitoring plugin for checking XMPP servers

implements a nagios check plugin for XMPP servers implementing the XMPP
protocol as specified in RFC 6120.

The program implements the following features:

 - check client to server (C2S) as well as server to server (S2S) ports
 - check XMPP servers on IPv6 and IPv4 addresses
 - support STARTTLS as specified in RFC 6120 section 5.
 - check the validity of the server certificate presented by the XMPP server

The plugin has been implemented because of insufficiencies in the existing
check_ssl_cert and check_xmpp plugins.

Maximum acceptable timeouts as well as minimum acceptable number of days the
server certificate needs to be valid can be specified as command line
parameters.

I'm upstream developer of the plugin and use it to monitor my own XMPP
servers.

Hello,

I take care of the administrative side of https://wiki.cacert.org/ which is
also based on MoinMoin. We did a test installation and content copy of the
CAcert wiki based on the 2.x branch after FrOSCon 2024. A a lot of our
content had blocking issues (we use many macros to include shared content on
multiple pages.

We (another CAcert member, not myself) were in contact with MoinMoin people,
but progress on the issues is quite slow. I think the MoinMoin people would
appreciate help to get the 2.x-branch ready. Unfortunately I don't have
enough time to help there.

Best regards
Jan
