Bug#453105: general: Gnome + Sound problem

2007-11-27 Thread EagleScreen
Package: general
Severity: normal

As users of Gnome should know, in order to enable Gnome System sounds (login
sound, logout sound, gdm ready sound, click on command sound etc..) it is
necessary to go to Preferences->Sound and
enable sounds by software (ESD), and mark for play System sounds, and also have
gnome-audio installed.
The problem is that when i enable ESD, many other aplications stop sounding,
and if i try to play a WAV file with aplay command, it reports to me that my
audio device is busy. This is my audio
device:

00:08.0 Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1371 [AudioPCI-97] (rev 06)

I think this is a bug of Debian becouse this problem is not present in other
Linux distributions with Gnome in which ESD and aplay work together, and by
this i know that my sound card support
full duplex and can be used by both of them at the same time; in addiction in
old releases of Debian, i am sure that this problem was not present.

This problem is now pressent in Etch, Lenny and Sid.

2007-12-30 Thread EagleScreen
Package: general
Severity: wishlist

I am writting this to request the inclusion and support of a new software by
Debian.
Its name is "Hermes" or "Detección de hardware de Guadalinex 2005", ("Hardware
detection of Guadalinex 2005")in English.
It is a software developed by a Spanish GNU/Linux distribution: Guadalinex:
www.guadalinex.org
This software is designed specially to be used under GNOME Desktop Enviroment,
and its function is to notify and inform to the user about new hardware pluged
to computer, and guide user in order
to that new hardware work well.
For example, when a user plugs a new scanner device, Hermes show a notification
by "Notification Daemon" and suggest user open scanning program in a link
inside popup message.
Or when a supported camera is conected, Hermes show a popup notification with a
link to install the related Linux Kernel module (usig synaptic util) in order
that camera to can works.
Or when a USB speakers are conected, the notification suggest set them as
default Audio Device by GNOME Sound Preferences, to use them.
And some other functions with other devices.
Very useful for novice users.

This program is written in Python, so its source code is available in its
Debian Packages build by Guadalinex, and it is free software, read the begining
of the source:
