Bug#775333: RFP: python-nassl -- Python wrapper for OpenSSL

2015-01-14 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Control: block 765787 by -1

* Package name: python-nassl
  Version : -
  Upstream Author : Alban Diquet
* URL or Web page : https://github.com/nabla-c0d3/nassl
* License : GPLv2
  Description : Python wrapper for OpenSSL

>From the upstream webpage:

Experimental Python wrapper for OpenSSL. Do NOT use for anything
serious. This code has not been properly tested/reviewed and is
absolutely not production ready. For example, SslClient does not
properly check SSL certificates.

So the current state may not be good for anything but our experimental
branch, if at all.

I'm though filing this RFP, because it's a dependency of the neat sslyze
(https://github.com/nabla-c0d3/sslyze, RFP at
https://bugs.debian.org/765787) and I want to document that fact.

It didn't work on Debian sid.

Actually *without* -dI. Otherwise the short description is not shown
and the output is quite horrible when there are several matching
packages: one doesn't know what belongs to what. The --ensure-dctrl
option doesn't even have any effect. Bug reported:

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=775351

The -dI is needed for grep-status, with the drawback that the
short description is no longer shown.

And there's no zsh completion (I use it very much with dpkg).
I've also reported a wishlist bug:

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=775353

There doesn't seem to be an option to limit the number of lines
of the description that are shown.
